Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday June 10, 2011

ESTHER FIRLIE Age 94, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2011. Esther was a long-time resident of Albuquerque, NM. Two years ago she moved to Kirkland, Washington where her youngest daughter, Betsy, and family live. "Es" was a gracious lady with a contagious smile who made everyone she came in contact with feel special and loved. Always the optimist, Esther loved life and believed in living in the present...making each day better than before. Her love of music and the arts was a natural part of her existence and a passion easily shared with others throughout her life. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Major General John T. Honeycutt; brother, William J. Stephens and wife Elizabeth; and mother and father, Dr. & Mrs. W. J. Stephens. She is survived by her children and stepchildren, Katherine and husband, Hoyt Burnette, Mary Ruth and husband, Dr. Bruce Stafford, Betsy and husband, Harry Schanning, Victor Firlie, Mary Honeycutt, and John Honeycutt. She was a loving grandmother and influenced her many wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren in immeasurable ways. She will be missed by all. A memorial service celebrating Esther's life will be planned at a later date. Those who wish to express their condolences may do so at www.flintofts.com.
