BLAND -- Alberta Lee Bland was born September 2, 1937 to Bert Austin and Opal A (Pettit) Bland at home in Beaver City, Nebraska. She weighed ten pounds that day and as the years passed she never grew over 5' 1" but she had a huge heart. Alberta had one older brother, Austin and younger, Monty. They both treasured and teased her which contributed to her joyous personality. When Alberta was 12 years old she had open heart surgery, the first successful open heart surgery in a child in the state of Nebraska. That heart continued to beat strong until May 8, 2010 when she left this world for a better life. Alberta graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Medical Technology. She retired from Presbyterian Hospital and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She loved cooking, gardening, wood working, singing with "Young at Heart" and her two dogs "Charlie" and "Sophie". Alberta is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Austin; nephew, Justin William; and grand niece, Ruth Isabelle. Survivors include her partner of 44 years, Louann Daniel; her brother, Monty and his wife, Cheryl; nephews, Robert and Spencer Bland and their wives and children; nieces, Renae, Babette, Caramia, and Stephanie and their husbands and children. Services will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at French-Westside Location, 9300 Golf Course Rd, NW Albuquerque, New Mexico.
