BLAND -- Alberta Lee Bland was born September 2, 1937 to Bert Austin and Opal A (Pettit) Bland at home in Beaver City, Nebraska. She weighed ten pounds that day and as the years passed she never grew over 5' 1" but she had a huge heart. Alberta had one older brother, Austin and younger, Monty. They both treasured and teased her which contributed to her joyous personality. When Alberta was 12 years old she had open heart surgery, the first successful open heart surgery in a child in the state of Nebraska. That heart continued to beat strong until May 8, 2010 when she left this world for a better life. Alberta graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Medical Technology. She retired from Presbyterian Hospital and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She loved cooking, gardening, wood working, singing with "Young at Heart" and her two dogs "Charlie" and "Sophie". Alberta is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Austin; nephew, Justin William; and grand niece, Ruth Isabelle. Survivors include her partner of 44 years, Louann Daniel; her brother, Monty and his wife, Cheryl; nephews, Robert and Spencer Bland and their wives and children; nieces, Renae, Babette, Caramia, and Stephanie and their husbands and children. Services will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at French-Westside Location, 9300 Golf Course Rd, NW Albuquerque, New Mexico. BROCKWAY -- DENNIS VERN BROCKWAY. After a seven year battle with Melanoma, Dennis Vern Brockway died peacefully in his home with the love of his family on May 6, 2010 at the age of 69. Dennis is survived by his family, MaryDell Nochumson, Susan Brockway, Tiffany Nasise, Lori Larson, John Larson, Sierra Larson, Bodie Larson and Paula and Don Williams. Dennis was born in Globe Arizona on May 8th 1940 to Vern and Pauline Brockway. Dennis was the eldest of two children and grew up on the west side of Albuquerque. He graduated from Albuquerque High in 1958 and furthered his education by receiving a bachelor's degrees in Electrical Engineering from UNM in 1962. Dennis joined the Bell Labs graduate program in Whippany NJ, and while there completed a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from NYU. Dennis was awarded a PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 1970. Dennis joined the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory in 1971. During the beginning of his 27 year career Dennis was instrumental in developing a standard weapons code used to design several weapons in today's nuclear stockpile. This work resulted in Dennis being awarded one of the first LANL Distinguished Performance Awards. He ended his career as a designer and project leader for the Graphical Interface Aggregate Control System (GIAC). GIAC was the accepted graphical interface and data management tool for training and simulation based exercises in Europe and Korea. GIAC was particularly useful in combat staffing training for the first Gulf War. This resulted in strong commendations from military leaders and a Distinguished Performance Award for his team. Dennis retired in 1998. Dennis was an avid duplicate bridge player and golfer, and enjoyed spending his free time in pursuit of these activities. DAVIS -- Gary L. Davis, 54, died May 8, 2010 in his home after a very courageous battle with cancer. He worked as a civil engineer for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. He is survived by his wife, Ann, of the home; a brother, Glenn Davis of Columbia, MO; a sister, Beverly Bowman of Bullhead City, AZ; and other family. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Church, 6901 San Antonio Drive NE, followed by a graveside ceremony at Sunset Memorial on Menaul at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Gary preferred donations to the American Center for Law and Justice, Heritage Foundation, Grace Church, or Heartland Hospice.

FRANKLIN -- Gracia Renedo Franklin passed peacefully May 7, 2010. Gracia was born in Granada, Spain in 1932. Her family moved to Barcelona where she met Lt. Willard E. Franklin. They married and lived in many places around the world before retiring in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gracia was a devoted wife and mother. Her passion was to love and serve her family. She helped in raising her grandchildren. She loved to cook and drink coffee. She will be deeply missed by her family and all others whose lives she touched. She is survived by her daughter, Isabel Martin and husband Mark; son Ben Franklin and wife Patricia; daughter-in-law Barbara Franklin; grandchildren, Leit and wife Kim, Carisa, Meisje, Aharon, Jordan, Haley, Laney, and Megan; and great- grandchildren, Jonah, Jade, Mackenzie, and Kolton. Gracia was preceded in death by her husband Willard; son Alberto; and daughter Luci. She will also join in heaven her brothers, and sisters; Antonio, Amparo, Diego, Lola, Louie, Carmela, and Maria. JENSEN -- Lisa K. Gonzales Jensen, 44, of Edgewood, N.M. passed away suddenly on Friday, April 30, 2010. She was born and raised in Albuquerque. Lisa was dearly loved, her beautiful smile and laughter will surely be missed by all who knew her. Lisa touched many lives in positive ways always with generosity; she selflessly gave her heart and soul on caring for others, never to hold a grudge. Lisa loved her life, family, friends, and scuba diving, we loved her dearly. Lisa is survived by her loving husband, Jason Jensen; mother-in-law Martha; children Nicholas Manning and Jasmine Jensen; mother Maclovia (Mackie) Taylor; along with numerous other relatives and friends. MACEACHEN -- Michael A. MacEachen passed away May 8, 2010, at 82 in Largo, Florida. Mike was born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada on February 6, 1928 to Michael Patrick and Corinne MacEachen (Deceased). Michael served in the United States Air Force for twenty-seven years and was honorably discharged holding the rank of Chief Warrant Officer with many honors and commendations. He proudly served all over the world with stops in Germany, Turkey, Greece, Holland and Vietnam. Mike loved the water, playing golf, bowling, and fishing. Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus and truly enjoyed any social situation and being with family and friends. Mike is survived by his wife, Ginny; past wife and mother of his children, Shirley; sons, Michael Jr. and his wife Linda, Daniel and his wife Monica, Timothy and his wife Susan; and nine grandchildren. Funeral arrangements in Florida, where he will be interred with full military honors, are pending.

MARQUART -- Lyman Wesley Marquart, age 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Casa Palo Duro. Lyman was born April 8, 1920 in Kingston, WI to Viley Arthur and Viola Marquart. He was the oldest of five children. He married Audean Elaine Schultz, November 25, 1945 in Fairwater, Wisconsin. Lyman is survived by his daughter, Colline Garcia and husband, Louis; two grandsons, Christopher L. Skubis and wife, Cynthia, and Marc M. Skubis and wife, Julie. Other survivors include two brothers, Lloyd Marquart and wife, Dolores and Ronnie Marquart and wife, Fran; his only sister, Janice Happe; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Audean; and one brother, Glenn Marquart. He dedicated his life as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and was baptized September 29, 1984. Lyman was deeply loved by his family and friends. MAYER -- James E. Mayer, age 88 of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010. A U.S. Army Veteran during WWII, he graduated from The University of California with two masters degrees and continued to work in his field of development with Los Alamos Labs and Karsten Homes. He enjoyed golfing and was dedicated to his family. MCCARTY -- Marietta Young McCarty died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in Marble Falls, TX, at 90 years of age. She was born August 26, 1920 to Allen and Lula Young of McLean, TX. On April 1, 1942, she married George McCarty and had two children, Sandra and Mike. As a loving and faithful wife, she supported her husband as his coaching career moved him to New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico; Texas Western College in El Paso, Texas; University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming; and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was an avid golfer, traveling all over the country to play with her husband and close friends. Marietta was preceded in death by her parents; and four sisters; her son, Mike; her daughter, Sandra; and her first grandchild, Rusty. She leaves behind her husband of 69 years; four grandchildren: Todd Ashmore and wife Kristin, Amy Cozby and husband Trey, Carol Ashmore, and Rebecca McCarty and husband Jimmy; and four great grandchildren: Courtney, Calley, Clay, and Cacey Cozby. MEDINA -- Ruth A. Medina, 84, died May 7, 2010. Born in Monte Vista, CO on August 17, 1925, she was a graduate of Adams State Teachers College. She taught elementary school in Dulce, NM and in the APS school system. Ruth raised children, her own, and others with legendary zeal and warmth. She was a great cook, generous to family and friends, and left a lasting impression on those she met and whose lives she touched. She is survived by her three children, Cassandra Medina, Patrick Medina and Veronica Medina; her brother, Alfred Archuleta; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Thaddeus Medina; her parents, Alfred and Rose Archuleta; and her husband, Alfonso E. Medina. She was a fountain of love and kindness and will live in our hearts forever. NEFF -- Jack Neff passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010 after a short illness. Jack was lifelong resident of New Mexico. He was born in Raton July 27, 1931 and lived most of his life in Albuquerque. He was in the US Army and US Air Force and retired from General Electric. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Floyd M.; mother, Margaret; brother, Floyd R.; daughter, Susie; and two great grandsons, Alex and Kyle. OTERO -- Cecelia D. Otero, 75, was received unto our Lord Jesus on May 8, 2010. She was born on November 22, 1934 in Winslow, AZ to Lucas and Matilde Dominguez; she was married to Wilfred Otero on July 2, 1956 and made their home together for 54 years in Los Lunas, NM. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, Cecelia will be remembered for her 25 years of service as a special education teachers' aide at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School, as an active member of her church, San Clemente Parish, for her award winning chili, and for her wonderful faith and nurturing spirit. Cecelia was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Lucas and Jose; and her sister Leonor. RUIZ -- Mr. Leopoldo Ruiz, 82, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010. He was born in Las Vegas, NM on May 2, 1928 to Mariano and Lupita Ruiz and was the oldest of ten children. Mr. Ruiz was preceded in death by his loving wife Mauricia "Maureen" Ruiz and his son Russell Ruiz. He is survived by his children; Steve Ruiz, Rebecca Dyble and Genova Herrera and family in San Jose, CA. He is also survived by his remaining siblings; Salvador Ruiz and wife Lydia, Della Adams, Fredelina "Freddie" Palza and husband Mario, Helen Angel and husband Alfonso, Lydia Ruiz, Eloy Ruiz and wife Maria and Laida Martinez; as well as his grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Mr. Ruiz was a disabled veteran (active member of the VFW) who served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a barber for most of his early life, enjoyed fishing and tending to his garden and raising his own green chili which he gave to neighbors, friends and family. He loved his children and grandchildren very much and was a kind, loving and tender man. We will miss him very much! A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Holy Family Church, 562 Atrisco SW. A reception will follow immediately after the Mass in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.

SALAS -- Henry Salas, age 74, beloved brother, uncle and friend, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010. He was born on July 3, 1935 in Guadalupe, NM to the late Alberto and Cleofas Salas, and was a resident of Albuquerque. He was veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a carpenter by trade. Henry is survived by his loving sisters and brother, Celia Manley, Monica Ortiz, Susie Gonzales and husband Alex, and Ronald Salas; numerous nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. Henry will forever be remembered and loved by all. STEVENSON -- Martin J. Stevenson PhD, passed from this life May 1, 2010. "Marty" as he preferred to be called, was a true friend to everyone, and always had a kind word for all. A 20 year resident of Albuquerque, Marty was born June 10, 1946 in Syracuse, NY to Frederick and Florence Stevenson. He graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1972. He started his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories, with 19 years service at Sandia National Laboratories. He was the beloved husband of Paulette (Crawford) Stevenson for 28 years; Marty was the father of two sons, David Stevenson, wife Guenn, with three children, of Florida and Randy Stevenson, wife Ann, with two children, of California. Marty will forever be remembered by his in-laws, Jay and Brenda Denney daughter Melissa, and James and Lyn Crawford, son James, all of Indiana. He will be missed by countless other friends who were fortunate enough to know him. He was an avid sailor, and cherished his 34 foot Hunter Sailboat, "Windependent". He and his sailing friends spent many happy days sailing and racing at Elephant Butte Lake. Marty loved to travel with Paulette, read, have fun with friends and relatives and most of all spend time enjoying life. Marty touched the lives of many with his smile and generosity, and his gentle nature will be missed.
