ARMIJO -- Richard A. Armijo, 60, was called home to our Lord and Savior on Friday, November 13, 2009. Mr. Armijo was born on October 20, 1949 to Louis and Margaret (Cortez) Armijo of Albuquerque, NM. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Albuquerque High School. He was employed by the US Department of Agriculture as a Snow Surveyor. Mr. Armijo enjoyed farming alfalfa on his farm in Veguita, NM. He loved the outdoors and hunting, repairing cars and accumulating car parts. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He is most remembered as a loving father who instilled discipline into his children. He was an excellent provider for his family and made sure each of his children attended and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School and St. Pius X High School. Mr. Armijo is survived by his wife of 36 years, Rosemary (Ortiz) Armijo; their children, Ricardo (Jenny) Armijo, Ramona M. Armijo, Luis Armijo, Maria Elena Armijo and her special friend, John Padilla, all of Albuquerque, NM; two grandchildren, Gary and Madelyn; parents, Louis and Margaret Armijo; siblings, Louis, Jeanette, Gloria, and Carolyn; Clara and Joe Sandoval; and many nieces and nephews. A Viewing and Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, November 16, 2009, in the Palm Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services. BEATTY -- Laura E. Beatty, 80, moved from life here on earth to eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a brief illness with cancer. Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Luther Z Beatty "Luke"; infant son Kevin Lane Beatty; her granddaughter Sarah Bethany Shelton; brother Paul E Elmore; and her parents Paul H and Annie Laura Elmore. She is survived by her children Sandra Watson of Odessa, TX, David Beatty of Oklahoma City, OK, and Diane Shelton and husband Ira of Quemado, NM, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many dear friends. Laura was an active member of Monterey Baptist Church for 27 years where she worked with the Keenagers for more than 15 years. BIGGS -- Colonel George Joseph Biggs, USAF (Ret.), passed away on Veterans Day, November 11, 2009. Colonel Biggs, who was known to everyone as "Joe", was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 8, 1918 to Augusta and George Biggs. He was 91 years old. Colonel Biggs was a 1937 graduate of Jamaica High School in Queens, New York. He was commissioned in the Army Reserves in 1941 and called to active duty in 1942. He completed pilot training at Williams AFB, Arizona; Mather Field, California; Columbia Army Airfield, South Carolina; and Hunter Field, Georgia, and went on to fly 82 missions in B-25 bombers in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. His missions were both low level, including strafing, and high level with targets consisting of supply depots, bridges, and railroad yards in Burma. Following the War, Joe served as a Budget and Fiscal Officer in Assignments with the USAF Watson Laboratories at Red Bank, New Jersey, and the Directorate of Intelligence at USAF Headquarters, The Pentagon, until 1953. His next 14 years were with the Strategic Air Command (SAC) at Lincoln AFB, Nebraska, and Moron and Torrejon Air Bases in Spain. Among his many duties were serving as a B-47 medium bomber Aircraft Commander, Squadron Commander, and Vice Wing Commander. He also piloted KC-135 jet tankers while stationed in Spain. Joe left SAC in 1967 to become Chief of Aircraft Maintenance for the Air Force Eastern Test Range at Patrick AFB, Florida. On July 29, 1968, he received his final assignment at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, where he served as Commander of the 4905th Maintenance and Supply Group. Upon his retirement from the Air Force in 1972, he received the Legion of Merit, a high-ranking decoration, for exceptionally outstanding service to the United States. During his 30-year service career, Joe earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Air Medals, and three Air Force Commendation Medals among other military decorations. At retirement, he held the dual aeronautical ratings of Command Pilot and Navigator. While in the Air Force, Joe earned a BS degree in Military Science from the University of Maryland. In retirement, he earned an MBA from the University of New Mexico. Joe resided in Albuquerque since 1968. He was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, serving several terms as President of the Parish Council and the Holy Name Society. In recent years he lived in the Montebello retirement community and served as President of the Resident's Council until his death. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Irene Crawford; a son, Michael Crawford Biggs; his mother, Augusta; his father, George; and sisters Lillian, Viola and Eleanor. He is survived by his sons George Joseph Biggs and wife Prompon and step-daughter Supphanida of Albuquerque; James Michael Biggs and wife Diane of Albuquerque and their children Jennifer Keltos and husband Michael of Springboro, Ohio, Jill Spears and husband James of Ocoee, Florida, and Joseph Biggs of Chicago, Illinois; and daughter Patricia Anne Morrisette and husband Robert of Huntington Beach, California, and their children Andrea of New York City, Hayley of Los Angeles, California, and Corey of Huntington Beach. Joe had five great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Benjamin Keltos; and Hayden, Connor, and Adeline Spears. Joe was, put simply, a good and generous man, highly respected and admired by family and friends alike. He will be very much missed by all. KING -- Bruce King, 85, of Stanley, NM passed away on Friday, November 13, 2009 at his ranch surrounded by his loving family. New Mexico's longest serving Governor, Bruce King, was born to Mollie and William King near Stanley, NM on April 6, 1924. He graduated from Stanley High School, attended the University of New Mexico, and began his lifelong commitment to public service with service to his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. On returning to Moriarty, he met and married his lifelong partner, Alice Marie Martin King, on June 1, 1947 at the Baptist Church in Moriarty, NM. He is survived by two sons, Bill and Gary; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Having enjoyed playing football at the University of New Mexico, Bruce continued as an avid supporter of high school sports and stalked the sidelines of Moriarty Pinto football games for his sons with such a gusto that he was often mistaken as the coach. He and his two brothers Sam and Don built their family homestead into one of the most successful farming and ranching operations in New Mexico. Bruce was dedicated to serving his community and New Mexico. Bruce's life in politics began in the early 1950's when he worked on Senator Dennis Chavez's campaign. In 1954 Bruce was elected to the Santa Fe County Commission. After two terms on the commission, Bruce ran for the New Mexico House of Representatives and was elected to the first of his five terms. In 1963 he was selected to the first of three terms as Speaker of the House, a job he always described as one of his favorites. Following his service in the Legislature, he was elected to the State's second Constitutional Convention and was chosen to serve as the President of the Convention. In 1970, Bruce was elected to his first term as NM Governor. Prevented from serving consecutive terms by the NM Constitution, Bruce ran and was elected for Governor twice more, in 1978 and 1990. Bruce did much to improve and modernize NM government including; creation of a professional personnel system, equalization of funding for education statewide, creation of the Severance Tax Permanent fund, creation of the environment department and bringing all services for children and families under the direction of a single cabinet agency. His lifetime in politics is detailed in his book "Cowboy in the Roundhouse". His legacy also includes the appointment of many honest and capable judges in NM. Bruce served his community in other ways, including the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, Wichita Farm Credit Bank Board, Sunwest Bank Board and the Four Corners Regional Commission. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, a 4-H and FFA leader, a member of the Farm Bureau and NM Cattlegrower's Association, VFW and an honorary life member of the Moriarty Rotary Club. Bruce was Chair of the New Mexico Democratic Party and Vice-Chair of the National Governor's Association. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Caitlyn King and his beloved wife, Alice. He is survived by his two sons, Bill King of Stanley, NM and Gary King and his wife, Yolanda of Moriarty, NM; brothers, Sam King and his wife, Che Sun Kim of Stanley, NM, Don King and his wife Dorothy of Stanley, NM; sister, Leota Brooks and her husband Jack of Libby, MT; grandchildren, Becky and Tom Spindle, Jenny and Josh Caldes, Stacy King and Eric and Cameron Anderson; and eight great- grandchildren. Former Governor Bruce King will lie in state at the NM State Capitol on Friday, November 20, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Moriarty High School Gymnasium at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend Dr. Russell C. Lee, Lutheran Pastor officiating. Burial will follow at the Stanley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David King, Sam King, Jerry King, Kenneth Lloyd Martin, Robert Glen Repass, Tom Spindle, Josh Caldes and Eric Anderson. KRUM -- Mary Rosalie Krum, 71, a native of Reading, PA and resident of New Mexico (Albuquerque and Santa Fe) for over 50 years, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009. Mary is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bill Krum; children, Marcy and husband Dan Louton of Albuquerque, NM, B.J. and husband Col. Patrick Terrell of Bell Air, MD, Mathew and wife Diane of Casper, WY.; grandchildren, Amber, Brittany, Chris, Ben, Shane, Julie, Scott, Elizabeth, Ashlyn and Jonathan; and two great-granddaughters, Chloe and Ella. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Rosalie Anna "Bortz" and Benjamin Franklin Bott III; and two sons, Peter and Marcus. Mary was an accomplished musician both pianist and organist and was the organist at various churches, most recently St. Timothy's Lutheran. Mary was bookkeeper and corporate officer for Krum Distributing in Santa Fe and Baum's Music in Albuquerque. She enjoyed being a Camp Fire Girl Leader, selling Avon, following the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps, quilting, and most importantly traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. MATTHEWS -- Henry King Matthews, 80, died Friday, November 13, 2009 in Albuquerque after a lengthy illness. Henry (Speedy) was born August 29, 1929 in Fairland, Oklahoma to Henry James Matthews and Minnie Viola King Matthews. After spending his childhood there, he attended Northeastern Oklahoma Junior College, Graceland College and Oklahoma State University. He served in the U.S. Army from December 1951 - November 1953. While attending OSU he met Geneva Mae Landers. They were married December 22, 1953 after Henry returned from serving overseas. He earned his BA degree at OSU and MA from UNM in Elementary Education. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1960 when he began teaching for Albuquerque Public Schools. He retired in 1989. Henry was a faithful member of the Community of Christ all his life and was ordained an Elder in 1976. During the summer he loved to serve at the camps at Sacramento Mountain Retreat near Cloudcroft, NM. He enjoyed traveling, watching sports (especially the UNM Lobos), fishing, camping, golfing and spending time with his family. Henry is survived by his wife Geneva; daughter Debbie Schultz and husband Steve of Grand Junction, Colorado; son Steve Matthews and wife Janice of Grand Ledge, Michigan; six grandchildren, Matt Schultz and wife Crystal, Tyler Matthews, Chris Schultz, Zach Matthews, Katie Schultz and Jake Matthews; brother David Matthews and wife Juli; brother-in-laws Logan Brown and Dale Landers and wife Geneva as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Manford Matthews; and two sisters, Lenora Patrick and Virginia Brown. MCMINN -- Marjorie Funkhouser McMinn passed away on November 11, 2009. Marj was born on January 29, 1932, to Hazel and Kenneth Funkhouser, Marj grew up in Wilmette, Illinois, and came to New Mexico to study art at UNM. At the university she was a member and president of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She graduated with a BA degree in 1953. Marj was briefly married to Frank McMinn, her college sweetheart. Her first job was as a window display artist at Fedway Department Store. When it closed she worked as a graphic artist for several companies, and later started her own graphics art business. After retirement Marj volunteered her time for the Albuquerque Police Department, the New Mexico Zoological Society, and the St. John's Cathedral thrift shop. Marj loved reading, working puzzles, playing bridge and other games, her exercise class at St. Timothy's Church, and going out to lunch with friends. She is survived by her sister JoAnn Hayes of Liberty Lake, WA; nephews Kenneth Hayes (Sue) Arkansas, Christopher Hayes (Andrea) Minnesota, Jeffrey Hayes, Colorado; and niece Julie Adams (John) California, and several great-nieces and nephews. The family thanks Marj's many friends who visited and sent cards and letters during her illness, and especially thanks those she called her extended family who gave her comfort and contentment during her last days. Special thanks also to Hospice de la Luz, and the caregivers provided by Elder Care Solutions who gave her professional and compassionate home care 24/7; enabling Marj to remain at home with her cats Sally and Sam, and Charley, the visiting roadrunner. In accordance with her wishes, Marj has been cremated, and friends will celebrate her life with an old-fashioned Irish wake at O'Niell's Pub, 4310 Central Ave SW, on Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Friends of Marj's past and present, are invited. MONTOYA -- Secundino Cresencio Montoya, 63, a long-time resident of Wagon Mound, was called home to our Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 14, 2009.
