MCMINN -- Marjorie Funkhouser McMinn passed away on November 11, 2009. Marj was born on January 29, 1932, to Hazel and Kenneth Funkhouser, Marj grew up in Wilmette, Illinois, and came to New Mexico to study art at UNM. At the university she was a member and president of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She graduated with a BA degree in 1953. Marj was briefly married to Frank McMinn, her college sweetheart. Her first job was as a window display artist at Fedway Department Store. When it closed she worked as a graphic artist for several companies, and later started her own graphics art business. After retirement Marj volunteered her time for the Albuquerque Police Department, the New Mexico Zoological Society, and the St. John's Cathedral thrift shop. Marj loved reading, working puzzles, playing bridge and other games, her exercise class at St. Timothy's Church, and going out to lunch with friends. She is survived by her sister JoAnn Hayes of Liberty Lake, WA; nephews Kenneth Hayes (Sue) Arkansas, Christopher Hayes (Andrea) Minnesota, Jeffrey Hayes, Colorado; and niece Julie Adams (John) California, and several great-nieces and nephews. The family thanks Marj's many friends who visited and sent cards and letters during her illness, and especially thanks those she called her extended family who gave her comfort and contentment during her last days. Special thanks also to Hospice de la Luz, and the caregivers provided by Elder Care Solutions who gave her professional and compassionate home care 24/7; enabling Marj to remain at home with her cats Sally and Sam, and Charley, the visiting roadrunner. In accordance with her wishes, Marj has been cremated, and friends will celebrate her life with an old-fashioned Irish wake at O'Niell's Pub, 4310 Central Ave SW, on Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Friends of Marj's past and present, are invited. In lieu of flowers donations in Marj's name may be made to PACA, P.O. Box 21280, Albuquerque, 87154, or to the New Mexico BioPark Society, 903 10th St. SW Albuquerque 87102, or to St. John's Thrift Shop , P.O. 1246, Albuquerque 87103.
