BENAVIDEZ -- Barbara Benavidez, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 25, 2009. BLAKE -- Zola M. Blake, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur W. Blake in April of 2006 and her mother and father, Michael and Alice Zieske, of Mankato, Minnesota. She was born in Mankato on May 20, 1921. Following graduation from Gustavus Adolphus College, she married Arthur, and they moved throughout the country following Arthur's career in the U.S. Secret Service. While living in Denver and Albuquerque she taught typing, shorthand, and business math at several business colleges. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Blake, of Centennial, Colorado; her son, Fritz and his wife Melissa of Albuquerque; her grandson James Eck and his wife Juliette; and her great-grandchildren Elisabeth, James and Alasdair of Summit, New Jersey. A memorial service will be held at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Dr. NE, on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Zola's sprit will be deeply missed by those who loved her. BOYLE -- Charles "Charlie" Boyle. A memorial service for Charles Dennis Boyle will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Calvary Chapel of Albuquerque with Pastor Kerry Rose officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Lawnview Cemetery, Cordell, Oklahoma. Local arrangements are provided by Brandon Lee of Loftiss Funeral Home. Charlie was born July 4, 1951, at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to Charles R. and Agnes (Beck) Boyle. Because his dad was in the army, his early education was received in Germany, Ft. Hood, Texas, and Lawton, Oklahoma. He graduated from high school in Baumholder, Germany. Charlie graduated with a B.A. degree with a major in history and government from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. Charlie taught school for four years in the Lawton Public School district and then worked for 16 years as operations manager for Southwest Operations, Servicemaster Inc. before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he taught school at Los Lunas High School, teaching history, government and German until his medical retirement in October, 2008. Charlie is survived by his wife, Tisa, of the home; and her mother, Ellen Jones; his parents, Charles and Agnes (Beck) Boyle; his sister-in-law, Teri Burnett; a son Joseph; three daughters, Jonna, Chelsea and Carissa and her husband, Chris; a granddaughter, Madison; and three grandsons, Jason, Isaiah, and Lukas. CLENDENIN -- Paul E. Clendenin, 78, resident of Albuquerque, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Clendenin; children, David Clendenin, and Michael Clendenin, and wife, Frankie; grandchildren, Ashley, Paul, Mikey, Bill, Tyler, and Mindi; sister, Mary Hunt; and nephews, Carl and Mark Withrow. Paul was born in West Virginia in 1930. He joined the US Air Force and served four years during the Korean war. He then moved to Albuquerque in 1952 where he married Patricia and raised a family. Mr. Clendenin owned and operated a sprinkler and irrigation supply company until his retirement in 1990. He loved fishing, camping and traveling. Private memorial services were held. FERNANDES -- Amancio Fernandes, 87, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 23, 2009. Amancio is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Gonzlaez; son-in-law, Richard Gonzalez; three grandchildren, Ashley, Aaron and Jessica Gonzalez; one brother, Antonio Fernandez and wife, Katherine Fernandes; and many nieces and nephews in the Boston area. He is survived by his wives, Michalea Fernandes and Lita Fernandes; brothers and sister, Arthur and wife, Jennie Fernandes, Guadencia Fernandes, Joseph and wife, Maria Fernandes, Fidelis and wife, Mary Fernandes. Amancio was born on May 29, 1922 in the Town of Duxbury Plymonth County, MA. He attended Portuguese school in Fogo Cape Verde Island until returning to the United States in 1934 and continued to attend school in Duxbary. He entered the military and served in three wars. Amancio's life has been one dedicated to God, family, and our country. A life of sacrifice, love, wisdom, caring, guidance and great faith. FOX -- Stephen L. Our beloved brother, uncle, friend and partner, WELCOME HOME! BienVenido! 'Doc' aka Rob; GENTLE GIANT with a good heart. Always there for us when we needed him. Vietnam veterano, corpsman, manhandled by PTSD and lied to by his own government about the war. Rob was !presente! in the struggle for Native people after Wounded Knee. He was at Dalton Pass on the Dine rez, helping support sovereignty and Treaty Rights and opposing uranium mining. He supported the struggle of United Farm Workers in the San Joaquin Valley. He supported his nephew, Malcolm Jamal Cooper and local progressive organizations working for change, putting his money where his mouth was, 'Doc' nurtured community without the need for personal accolades. Our brother was truly a justice/peace supporter. He will be sorely missed by his brothers, Allen Cooper and Terry Fox; his partner Kathleen; and his nephew Malcolm Cooper. A celebration of Rob's life will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 6:00 pm at French Mortuary, University Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. GARCIA -- Jesus Garcia, 83, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009. Mr. Garcia was born on October 29, 1925 in Laredo, TX. Mr. Garcia served his country in the US Navy. He was sent to Vietnam twice. It was during his last tour that both he and his son, Gustavo A. Garcia (USMC), were both deployed to Vietnam at the same time. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Garcia; his parents who died at a very young age; and his sister, Refugio Tumulak, who raised him after their parents had died; and a brother, Alfredo Garcia. He is survived by his daughter, Maria J. Kaliponi, of Las Vegas, NV; son, Gustavo A. Garcia, of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Victor Garcia and wife, Molly Garcia, Gus Garcia, Jr., Christina Kaliponi, Vanessa Kaliponi, and Joseph Kaliponi; great-granddaughter, Jillian Rose; mother of Victor and Gus Garcia, Julia E. Viano; and many loved and cherished friends who will mourn his passing. GONZALES -- GEORGE ANTHONY GONZALES. January 21, 1958 -October 23, 2009 George "Anthony" Gonzales, 51, was called home on October 23, 2009 after a courageous ten year battle with cancer. He was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on January 21, 1958 to George and Celina Gonzales. Anthony, a gentle soul, revolved his life around God and family. Anthony was a devout Catholicteaching catechism and confirmation at San Isidro Church and singing with the 8:00 am choir. He co-founded AM 810 Que Suave Radio and the "Santa Fe Hometown News." Anthony blessed people with his voice and inspired his sons' and daughter's musical and theatrical talents. Anthony's life was dedicated to his wife and best friend, Gigi; sons Anthony "Bubba" and Joshua; and daughter, Gianna. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Juan J. and Dora Vigil, and Alejandro and Porfillia Gonzales. He is survived by his loving wife, Gigi; sons: Anthony "Bubba" and Joshua; and daughter, Gianna; parents, George and Celina Gonzales; brothers: Patrick, Javier, and Estevan; in-laws, Mary Jo and Orvil Bradley; sisters in-law: Karmella Borrego-Gonzales, Consuelo Carrillo, Adi-Risa Gonzales, Jackie Bradley-Ortiz, and Christine Bradley ; brothers in-law: Vince Bradley, Chris Bradley, Anthony Bradley-Ortiz, and Duke Bradley; nieces: Alexandra, Mariah, Basiea, Paige, Cameron, and Cadence; nephews: Lee, Christopher, Michael, Damien, Isaiah, Rico, Cisco, Adaiah, and Asher; great-nephews: Charles Xavier and Jareth Solomon; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. HENDERSON -- Berchie Rumbaugh Henderson, 87, born in Hurricane, W.Va., long time resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert W. Henderson and is survived by her sister, Noralee Bruskas of Albuquerque; brothers, Charles K. Rumbaugh and wife, Sue of Indianapolis, IN and L.E. Rumbaugh and wife, Joan of Leesburg, FL; and stepsons, Dr. William G. Henderson and wife, Carol and Robert T. Henderson and wife, Cindy, all of Albuquerque. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as deacon. She was active in Albuquerque Assistance League and many other community activities. IMBERT -- Martha Jones Imbert, 92, passed away on October 23, 2009. She is survived by her son John J. Imbert, III and wife Barbara of Homestead, FL, son Martin H. Imbert and wife Beverly of Albuquerque, NM; grandson Christopher Imbert of Albuquerque, grandson Joshua Imbert of Port Saint Lucie, FL; granddaughter Kelly Eifert of Columbia, SC; great-granddaughters Lauren and Taylor Imbert of Port Saint Lucie, FL; and great-grandson Seth Eifert of Columbia, SC. Martha was born and raised in Alexander, AR, joined the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) in 1943. At the end of WWII, she married her husband of 62 years John J. Imbert, Jr. (recently deceased). She was a stay at home mom in Virginia Beach, VA , they retired to Roswell, NM 21 years ago, and recently moved to Albuquerque. Services are planned at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. LUJAN -- Robert Lujan, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Saturday, October 24, 2009. Robert was born July 29, 1948 to Bartolo Lujan Sr. and Beatrice Aragon. Robert graduated from Valley High School and attended trade school, and then served his country in the Army during the Vietnam conflict. Robert's interests and hobbies included metal working, hunting, especially bow hunting, and his grandchildren. He worked as a machinist at Noor Manufacturing for many years. Robert was active at his church, Celebration Baptist in Rio Rancho. He was instrumental in the construction of the current building. His many projects include the rear fire escape staircase and portions of the sanctuary. His family was important to Robert. He spent many hours around his home, with his children and grandchildren, and looked forward to yearly hunting trips with his sons. Robert was always ready and willing to tackle any project he could, including projects around the house, or building targets for the Kirtland AFB gun range. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother James. He is survived by his first wife, Mary Ortega; his wife of twenty-six years Jo Ann; sons Michael and William; step-sons James and Jon, 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Aggie Lujan, Betty Acosta, Dolores Castro, and Mary Baunach; his brothers, Bart Lujan, Joseph Lujan, and Walter Aragon, along with numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held, Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Celebration Baptist Church, 5620 Laredo Drive, Rio Rancho with Pastor David Brittain officiating. MONTGOMERY -- Grant Earl Montgomery, 80, went to be with his Lord on Friday, October 23, 2009. Grant was born in Albuquerque on October 7, 1929. He graduated from Albuquerque High School, Class of 1947. After graduating from UNM with a degree in electrical engineering, Grant was employed at Sandia Labs from 1951 until 1953. He served 2 years in the United States Air Force, from 1953-1955, returning to Albuquerque where he taught math at Jefferson Junior High until 1959. In 1957 Grant married Gladys (Teddy) Baer. They established their home in Cedar Crest where they raised two sons and became an integral part of the East Mountain community for 52 years. In 1960, Grant built Cedar Crest Hardware and operated the store for 8 1/2 years. He began another business, Montgomery Electric, in 1970, continuing until the day he died on his way to work. Grant was the proverbial jack-of-all-trades but he was master of many, enjoying the challenge of solving most any problem. It was a true Gift. He quickly established himself as the "go to guy" in the Cedar Crest area. Grant was a generous man who served the community as unto the Lord. There is no end to the people who have known his kindness. Soft spoken, gentle natured and full of grace, Grant knew no stranger. His commitment to the Lord was exemplified through his active membership at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, a charter member. He loved to sing and was a charter member of the choir as well. He also served the Lord at Immanuel in the offices of elder, deacon and trustee. Along with his wife, Teddy, Grant is survived by son, Mark, his wife Pat and children, Erin, Isaac and Levi; son, Steve, and his wife Antoinette, and children, James, Kevin, and Shannon, a younger brother, Mike, his wife Mavis and son, Rob. A memorial service to celebrate Grant's life is planned for Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle Blvd. SE. 87106. Mary was a member of Casa Angelica and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, the Holidays, and being with her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. PEREZ -- Jose Perez (Don Jose El Gallero) passed away Monday, October, 26, 2009 in Albuquerque at the age of 71. RODRIGUEZ -- Ruby Garcia Rodriguez, 70, beloved wife, mother grandmother, sister and native of Albuquerque passed away at home on Saturday, October 24, 2009 while surrounded by family and relatives. Ruby's giving nature, kindness and beautiful smile always drew others close to her. She was born October 7, 1939 in Las Vegas, NM. She was the very beloved wife of 47 years to Mr. Phil M. Rodriguez. Ruby is also survived by a son; Philip A. Rodriguez and wife, Michelle, daughter; Cindy Lopez and husband, Martin. She adored and cherished her grandchildren, Dominic, Makaila, Nicolaas and Christian. She is also survived by her brothers, Manny Garcia, Ben F. Garcia and wife, Agnes, Larry Garcia and wife, Teresa; and aunt Ester Pray all of Albuquerque, aunt Lita and husband, Alex Lovato, Los Alamos, NM and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A special thank you to niece Terri Garcia and cousin Louise Olson for all their assistance and throughout her life and her final days on earth. Ruby has strong religious and family convictions and lived her life for her husband, children, grandchildren and to God. She was a very loving and devoted, giving homemaker, always available to serve her family's many needs. Ruby was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Garcia and Father, Manuel Garcia in 1993. Ruby graduated from Highland High School, Albuquerque in 1958. She was a past President of the East Mesa Civitan Club 1985-1986. Ruby will truly be missed by her family, relatives, and many friends. Cremation has taken place. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Shrine of St. Bernadette Parish, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, Albuquerque. SANCHEZ -- Albert Gorman Sanchez passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009 in Albuquerque at the age of 42. Albert is preceded in death by his father, Gorman Sanchez, Roberta Sanchez, Anthony Sanchez and Anna Marie Sanchez. He is survived by his mother, Onesima Sanchez; brother, Robert Sanchez and wife, Debbie Sanchez; nephews, Robert A. Sanchez, Timothy J. Sanchez, Trinidad Vargas; and special friend, Seran Lucero. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his friend, Michael Thompson; and his caretaker, Ruth Retamales and the staff at the Cordilia House for such loving care. Services for Albert will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at St. Edwin Catholic Church with the Rosary to be recited at 11:30 a.m. and the Mass to be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Mt. SPEAR -- Howard H. Spear, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on October 24, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty Fleming Spear and his brother Fred Spear. He is survived by his children, Gary Spear and his wife Susan, Jerry Spear and his wife Judy; grandchildren, Scott Spear and his wife Michelle, Chris Spear, Dean Spear and his wife Jennifer, Cindy Schreiber and her husband Mike, David and Robin Quezada; great grandchildren, Megan and Jena Spear, Matthew, Sarah and Michelle Spear. Howard moved to Albuquerque from Brattleboro, Vermont in 1932. He worked in administration for the Santa Fe Railroad for over forty years. He was a long time member of the Believer's Center of Albuquerque Church. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is scheduled on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Believer's Center of Albuquerque, 320 Waterfall Drive, SE. STRONG -- Donald Manley Strong, 70, son of D. Vernon and Pauline Strong of Candor, NY, was born on September 26, 1939, passed away on Sunday, October 25. 2009. He is survived by Marie, his wife of 41 years; and his sisters, Jean (Alan) Ahart, Val (Bob) Houck, Nancy (Lynn Johnson)Ward; his brothers, "Hoot" (Diane) and Douglas Strong; and two stepdaughters Gail (Ray) Varin (Tucson, AZ) and Louise (Donn) Nielsen of Albuquerque. He dearly loved his grandchildren Amy, Bret, and Carlie Knapp, and Kelsey Nielsen; and his great-grandchildren Rachael, Ethan, Evan and Derrick; and his God-daughter, London. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Donald grew up on the family dairy farm in Candor, NY. After graduating from Cornell University he became a partner of Weiler Associates in Horseheads, NY. He was a licensed land surveyor for 39 years and was owner of Weiler Associates in Norwich, CT. Donald, Marie and Louise visited the Holy Land in 2000 which was a highlight in his life. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and all sports. Donald, a pilot, loved his Cessna 172 "Donarie-N64178." He was diagnosed with ALL (leukemia) March 2001 spending three months in the hospital, undergoing four surgeries in 31 hours and remained on a feeding tube for seven months. This forced him to sell his plane and his business. In remission from leukemia, he and Marie moved to Albuquerque, NM. January, 2002. He had a bone marrow transplant in 2004 at the University Medical Hospital in Tucson. His sister Nancy was his donor. In 2006 Donald requested to become a member of the Catholic Church. He enjoyed a healthy life until he was diagnosed with brain cancer (glioblastoma) June 2, 2009. A Vigil will be held with a Viewing and a Rosary will be recited at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church on October 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Love and appreciation goes out for the prayers and generosity of his family and friends, and especially the Holy Rosary Small Christian Community members as they helped Marie and Donald during his journey to Heaven. After cremation Donald will join his deceased family in Candor, NY. Donald often said "God will cure me" and God has. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to the American Brain Tumor Association 2720 River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60018.
