ALLRED -- Barbara J. Allred, age 74, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009, after a long battle with breast cancer. She had been a resident of Albuquerque for 52 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar D. Allred. She is survived by her four children; Alise Blankenship of Albuquerque, Julie Allred of Albuquerque, Michael Allred and his wife, Margaret of Rio Rancho, Steven Allred and his wife Mary of Everett, Washington; one sister Janice Wright, and her husband William of Houston, Texas; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Barbara worked at Lovelace Medical Center for 22 years before retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Barbara touched lives of everyone she knew through her generosity, sense of humor, and her loving personality. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society. BORING -- Thomas H. Boring, 58, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1978, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2009. Thomas was born July 10, 1951 the son of John Thomas and Annetta Mae Cherry Boring in San Diego, California. He had worked in the computer manufacturing business before his death. Thomas is survived by his wife, Jill O. Boring of Rio Rancho; two children, Dan Richter and wife Lisa, and Shara Marconi and husband Scott, all of Rio Rancho; six grandchildren, Brittney, Katrina, Steven, Eric, Ashley, and Jon; three sisters, Susie Richards, June Hoover, and Vonna Holder; and one brother, John E. Boring; numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service for Thomas will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. CANDELARIA -- Monica Diane Candelaria, born in Albuquerque June 20, 1981 passed away February 2, 2009. Monica enjoyed laughing, joking, taking care of babies, and spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a loving daughter, mother, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend who will be truly missed. Monica was preceded in death by her father, Gabriel Candelaria and her daughter, Reina Candelaria. Monica is survived by her mother, Isabel Candelaria; one son, Michael Candelaria; her brother, Gabriel Candelaria Jr.; grandparents, Dolores and Mike Mirabal, Diana Flores and Eddie Candelaria; godparents, Victor Candelaria and Diana Candelaria; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins, and friends who loved her and will miss her greatly. EMERSON -- Eugene (Gene) LaVerne Emerson, age 83, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away August 1, 2009. He was born in Lisbon, IA, on August 26, 1925, the son of Stonerook and Helen Emerson. He graduated from Lisbon Public School in 1943 and was the class valedictorian. Gene served in the US Navy during World War II. As part of his officer training, he attended the University of Notre Dame and received a Bachelor of Naval Science in 1946. He returned to the University of Notre Dame after his military service and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. Gene later attended the University of Iowa, receiving a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1955. Gene, his wife Marie, and his infant son David then moved to Albuquerque, and Gene began working at Sandia National Laboratories. He retired from Sandia 38 years later. His many interests included fishing, hiking, gardening, and hunting. Gene was an assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 285 and served as a local council leader of the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the District Scout Silver Beaver Award. He was a 50-year member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, serving as chairman of the New Mexico section. He served as President of the New Mexico Genealogical Society and was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendents. Gene also served as Treasurer of La Noche Garden Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 57+ years, Marie Katherine Unzeitig Emerson of Albuquerque; two sons, David and his wife Carolyn of Sugar Land, TX, and Michael and his wife Kathryn Naassan of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Lauren Emerson and Sara Emerson of Sugar Land, TX, and Julia Emerson of Albuquerque; his sister Lenore Jones of Lisbon, IA; and his brother-in-law David Unzeitig of Cedar Rapids, IA. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at French University Chapel. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. also at French Mortuary. FJELSETH -- Paul Fjelseth,74,passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at his home following a lengthy battle with cancer. Paul was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Lewis and Alma Fjelseth. He graduated from South Dakota State College (now SDSU) in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappu Nu Honor Societies. Paul worked at Sandia Laboratories for thirty-three years before retiring in 1990 as a Senior Member of the Technical Staff. He was involved in the design and testing of payloads for missile defense systems at Cape Kennedy, Johnson Island, Kwajalein, White Sands and Vandenberg Air Force Base. Paul enjoyed golf, bridge, softball, hunting, and attending his grandson's Little League games and granddaughter's ballet events. Paul was preceded in death by his mother, his father and his brother James. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Irene; daughters Denise Miller of Las Vegas, NV and Valerie McLeod and husband Jim of Albuquerque; brothers Lewis Fjelseth of Tuscon, AZ and Don Fjelseth of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Brandon, Kaitlyn, Wade, Anthony, David and Jessica as well as many other relatives and friends. GALLEGOS -- Bertha Gallegos passed away Friday July 31, 2009. Bertha was born on September 5, 1948. She was so loved by her family and friends. She will be missed by all of us who knew her. She was one to never complain-"I'm A OK" were her favorite words. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and brother Eloy. She is survived by her sons, Nathan and Phillip (Jolene); her husband Gary; eight grandchildren, Faith, Crystal, Derek, Jasmine, Shandi, Nikko, Seth and Ayden; brother Daniel (Barbara); sisters Prescilla, Ester and Erminda and a very special brother-in-law, Sal. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved as if they were her own children. For her many friends, she also loved you all so very much-thank you. We would like to also thank the staff from Hematology Oncology Associates, Presbyterian Hospital, Home Health Care and Hospice for the wonderful care that was given to Bertha. HUSLER -- Richard T. Husler, also known affectionately by friends as Fruehauf, passed away suddenly, at home, on August 2, 2009. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on May 20, 1946, but lived in Madrid, NM until 1954. He grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from Manzano High School in 1965. Richard will be greatly missed by his family, many friends, neighbors and co-workers. He was a life-long member of IATSE Local 423. He loved, and rescued many animals throughout his life. He enjoyed tinkering with everything mechanical, especially video and movie equipment and welded structures. He possessed a keen interest in the histories of Madrid and Cerillos, the Christmas lights, coal mines, trains and especially steam locomotives. He collected train and movie memorabilia throughout his life and was well-known for welcoming all first-time visitors into his home and ringing in each New Year with a blast from his train whistle. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Janey and Joe Husler, and brother Earl Husler. He is survived by his loving wife, Laura (Stormy); stepson Josh Albillar of Tempe, Arizona; stepdaughter Shari Eppard of Albuquerque; and grandchildren, Faith Lea Tafoya and Brendon James Eppard; his brother John Husler and wife Bonnie; nieces Carrie Fiske and Cyndi Pitts; and nephew Christopher Husler of Albuquerque, along with many other family members including mother-in-law, Therese Cotitta of Tempe, Arizona, sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. KLEIN -- Audrey Nell Klein, passed away on July 31, 2009, at age 86. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. (Bill); her sister, Frances Williams; her sister-in-law, Martha Dougall; and close friend, Andrew Miller. She is survived by her son, William Donnell and wife Robin (Las Cruces); her daughter Linda Anne Caldarelli and husband Bob (Raton); her son James Craig and wife Nancy (Albuquerque); her daughter Dorothy Nell Bodiroga and husband Obie (Durango, CO); and her daughter Patricia Louise Poole and husband Bob (Bellingham, WA); nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren, and her sisters-in-law Margaret Knudsen (Eugene, OR) and Mary Louise Davis (Baton Rouge, LA). She was born in Okeene, Oklahoma on August 26, 1922 and attended schools in Oklahoma City. While playing in the school orchestra, she met, and in 1942, married Bill. She and her family moved to Albuquerque in 1954, where she became active in her children's school activities and associations. She volunteered at local hospitals, KNME-TV and the Albuquerque Rehabilitation Center. Throughout the 1980s, she worked to grow Albuquerque's industrial base through the Albuquerque Industrial Development Service, and later at the family's business. A private family gathering is being held in her memory. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Shrine Transportation Fund, Presbyterian Hospice, or the charity of your choice.

LOUCKS -- Dr. James E Loucks passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2009. He lived a full and rich life which positively touched thousands. He was born November 14, 1923 in Oklahoma City. He completed college and medical school at the University of Oklahoma. He married his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Betty Jo Brown, in 1945. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 in Fort Bragg NC, and he remained in the US Army Reserves where he achieved the rank of Colonel. James and Betty Jo moved their growing family to Los Alamos in 1955. Dr. Loucks practiced obstetrics/gynecology for 35 years and he delivered over 7,500 babies throughout his career. For multiple years in the early 1960's, he was the only OB/GYN doctor in Los Alamos and was on call 24 hours a day. He worked hard to provide for his family and he graciously served his community. He was Chairman of the Los Alamos County Commission during the crucial year of 1967 when the County government accepted the day to day operation of the county from the AEC. In 1959, he was one of the founders of the Los Alamos Building and Loan which helped provide mortgages for many homes on the then brand new Barranca Mesa. He was also a past president of Kiwanis. He was active in Los Alamos Light Opera, and sang the lead roles in the local productions of Brigadoon, Guys and Dolls and Annie Get Your Gun. James and Betty Jo, who passed away in 2003, loved to entertain. They held countless dinner parties and often opened their home to hundreds of guests for receptions of the Opera Guild, the Council on International Relations, their children's weddings and friends of their children's weddings. James was always comfortable on the stage of life and his audiences were always rewarded by his presence. James and Betty Jo created a beautiful and very fulfilling life for themselves and their family. He is survived by his five children, Lynne Loucks Buchen and husband Jerry, Larry Loucks and wife Pattie, Eric Loucks and wife Polly, Cliff Loucks, Jennie Loucks and husband Barry Knight, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. James' remains will be cremated and interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at a yet to be determined date.

LOZOYA -- Lorraine Lucille Lozoya was born September 5, 1956 in Taos, New Mexico. She passed away Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the age of 52. Lorraine loved being a housewife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her love of making people laugh and smile and for making jokes all the time. Lorraine loved to sing, listen to music and loved giving hugs and lots of kisses to her daughters, husband and grandchildren. LUCERO -- Pedro Lucero, age 93, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, August 3, 2009. Pedro was born in La Jara, NM on March 1, 1916. This was also where he met and married his wife of 66 years. Pedro served in the US Army during World War II. He was full of laughter and was always a jokester. He enjoyed dancing and spending time with his family. Mr. Lucero is preceded in death by his parents, Reymundo and Raquel Lucero; his in-laws; and brother, Flaminio. He is survived by his wife, Petrita Lucero; children, Luis Lucero and Carolyn, Eddie Lucero and Louise, Andrea Montoya and David, and Lawrence Lucero and Corrine; siblings, Petrita Saiz, Fernando Lucero and Lionel Lucero; as well as 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Mr. Lucero will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the San Jose de los Duranes Mission. MARTINEZ -- Alice Mary, age 75, of Corrales, NM, born November 4, 1933 passed away peacefully at the Presbyterian Hospice unit on Monday August 3 2009 after a long battle with diabetes. She was preceded in death by her mother, Felicita Santillanes, who passed on November of 1972. She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Benny Martinez; along with her six children, all from Albuquerque, Lawrence Gallegos and wife Chickie, Linda Patino and husband Tony, Sammy Gallegos Jr, Vincent Gallegos and wife Gloria, Geri Gallegos, and Bernadette Gallegos; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers-in law and many friends. All services will be held at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, at the corner of 4th street and 300 Mildred NW. A rosary will be recited on Friday, August 7th, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday August 8th, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. by Father Javier. MARTINEZ -- Eloy F. It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, ELOY F. MARTINEZ, 66, of Las Cruces on Sunday, August 2, 2009 due to complications from diabetes at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 4, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas to Eloy A. and Frances Roybal Martinez. Eloy graduated from Valley High School in 1961; received his Bachelor of Arts from Eastern New Mexico University in 1968 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver, College of Law in 1971. He served for the people as a Deputy District Attorney in the First Judicial District; Municipal Attorney and Special Police Attorney for the City of Santa Fe and Commissioned Assistant Attorney General. He served two terms as District Attorney of Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Rio Arriba Counties - First Judicial District from 1976 to 1984. From 1997 to 2003, he served as a Sr. Public Defender at the Alamogordo Public Defenders Officer and from 2003 to 2009, he was the Deputy District Attorney in the 7th Judicial District, Sierra County. In May 2009, he retired from Public Office. Survivors include his loving wife, Marcia Roybal Martinez of the family home; a son, Eloy F. Martinez III of Chicago, Illinois; three daughters, Yvette McKenna and husband Doug, Melissa Martinez and companion Gerry, Monnet Serafin and husband Mark all of Albuquerque; three sisters, Eliza Jo Sokolowski of Santa Fe, Monica L. Augustine and husband Ron of Denver, Colorado, Camilla "Kam" Martinez and companion Ron also of Santa Fe. Other survivors include three grandchildren, Ashlee Chavez, Amaya and Anthony McKenna all also of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Madonna Renee Martinez and Nina Marie Roybal. Visitation for Mr. Martinez will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2009 in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda with Reverend Martin Cordero officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress Road where he will be laid to rest. QUINTANA -- Vernon H. Quintana, age 51, a life-long resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2009, after a long battle of heart disease. He was preceded in death by his wife MaryAnn Baca-Quintana; parents, Joe Pete and Emma Quintana; siblings, Edwin and Marlene. He is survived by his children, Brian Brown and wife Crissy, Joey Quintana and wife Nicole, Crystal Sanchez and husband Kenneth, Marlene Quintana and partner Travis Lucero, Santana and Isaiah Quintana; grandchildren, Gabriel and Kenny Ray Sanchez and Beautiful Paris Quintana; brothers, Michael Quintana Sr. and wife Annabelle, Robert Quintana Sr. and wife Gloria; one sister, Evelyn Q. Martinez and husband David; a dear friend, Randy Nelson; along with numerous family and friends. Vernon will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of laughter, nature, life and big heart. RHODES -- Gene Rhys Rhodes, 52, of Albuquerque, NM and Las Cruces, NM died on August 1, 2009. Gene was born in Albuquerque, NM on August 10, 1956. He graduated from Highland High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of New Mexico. Gene was well known for his brilliant mechanical mind and his gift for being able to fix almost anything. He had a particular passion for Alfa Romeo automobiles. He owned many Alfas during his life and spent countless hours restoring them to the point that he was an expert in all aspects of this brand of automobile. Gene also enjoyed camping and had an especially fond appreciation of the Washington and Oregon coast areas of the U.S. Gene loved animals, particularly dogs and had recently adopted a Pomeranian Chihuahua named Chica who became his constant companion. Gene owned his own printing service and supply business for many years in Albuquerque. Over the past few years Gene lived in Las Cruces and worked with his brother at a billiards store. Gene is survived by his mother, Margaret; brother, Kerry; sister, Cheri; and countless other family and friends. He will be extraordinarily missed. There will be a gathering of friends on Friday, August 7, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. in Sister Cities Park located at the intersection of Harper and McKinney, NE, in Albuquerque.

ROETHELI -- Liliane Roetheli, 77, died Saturday, August 1, 2009. SIMPSON -- Matilda Kingda (Landowski) Simpson. Matilda "Kay" Simpson, age 95, a 6 year resident of Woodbridge, VA passed away at the home of her son (Joseph W. Simpson) in Laughlin, NV on July 28, 2009. Prior to moving to Virginia where she lived with Richard and Freddie Simpson (son's home), she was a resident of Albuquerque (Paradise Hills), NM from 1978 - 2003. She was born on August 21. 1913, in the Town of Buena Vista, Wisconsin and grew up on a farm outside of Amherst, Wisconsin. She had allergies, which were contributed to the farm environment. Soon after graduation from High School, she accepted a position with Queen of Angeles Hospital in Los Angeles which included room and board. She met her husband (Joseph B. Simpson 11/21/1912 - 1/17/1992) through his sister (Margaret). Margaret was Kay's roommate at the Hospital. She was married on November 11, 1932 in Los Angeles. Her husband had a 26 year career in the Navy and she traveled extensively visiting all 48 states and the Territories of Alaska & Hawaii prior to 1955. After Navy retirement, her husband joined Bechtel and had another 20 year career which required more travel. She did not settle down until they moved to Paradise Hills Community in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There she enjoyed square dancing and became very active in volunteer organizations. She served as Commander for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Auxiliaries. Kay is survived by her three children Matilda Lucy D'Ambra, Joseph William (Karen) and Richard David (Alfreda)), Niece (Rose Brown) who she help raise, 14 grand children, 32 great grand children and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by a sister, Theresa Churas of Amherst, Wisconsin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 10, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (12975 Purcell Road, Manassas, VA) followed by a brunch at Westfield Marriott (14750 Conference Center Drive, Chantilly, VA) between 2 pm and 3 pm and a viewing between 6 pm and 8 pm at Pierce Funeral Home (9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA on Monday, August 10). SMITH -- Jimmie Colleen Smith was born April 2, 1926 in Iowa Park, TX, to Lee and Blanche Johnson. Jimmie died August 4, 2009 in Albuquerque, NM. Jimmie was married December 1, 1944 to Karold M. Smith, who preceded her in death July 15, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Virginia Ann Gibbs. Jimmie is survived by her daughter, Laura Mellott, husband John; and grandsons John Tyler and Zachary of Mission Viejo, CA; son, Brian Smith, wife, Lori; grandson, Daniel of Amarillo, TX; brothers, Darrell Johnson of Rawlings, WY and Jerry Johnson, wife, Maria of Albuquerque, NM. Jimmie is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Jimmie was a long time resident of Hobbs, NM where she was employed by the Hobbs Public Library. She retired September 19, 1998 after 34 years of service. After retirement, Jimmie moved to Amarillo, TX and later to Albuquerque, NM. Jimmie loved her family, gardening, reading and her church where she served as librarian, choir member and Sunday School teacher. This generous, loving woman will be greatly missed. STRATTON -- Gerald C. Stratton Sr. (Jerry), 59, passed away August 1, 2009, in Albuquerque New Mexico. He was born December 8, 1949, to John and Martha Stratton in Las Vegas Nevada. He is survived by his wife of 31 years Melissa C. Stratton, his son Gerald C. Stratton Jr., 26, and daughter Claire B. Stratton, 23, all of Albuquerque NM. Jerry grew up in Redlands, Ca. where he attended Redlands Sr. High School and graduated from the University of Redlands. Jerry worked for the Department of Defense for 36 years. His career brought him to Kirkland AFB in 1993 where he served his country most recently as an Audio Visual Production Specialist. Jerry served as an active volunteer to many community organizations. He served the Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years in various capacities most recently serving as a member on the Eagle Scout Board of Review as well as a Merit Badge counselor. While residing in Redlands, Ca. Jerry was a member of the Elks Lodge 583, where he served as Exalted Ruler from 1979-1980. He remained an avid supported of the Elks and their missions until his passing. Shooting was a passion for Jerry and he was an active member of the Single Action shooting Society (SASS) where he performed and competed as "Irish Jack Clary". Services will be held Saturday August 8, 2009, at the Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel. Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM. Services will begin at 10:00 AM. TANTILLO -- Betty E. Tantillo was born April 3, 1926 to Nick and Margaret Sposato in Des Moines, Iowa. She passed away Sunday, August 2, 2009 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Betty met and later married Victor Tantillo in 1948. In 1960 they moved to Albuquerque to raise their five children. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and by her loving husband. She is survived by her beloved sister, Evelyn Facciola of Tampa, FL; her daughters, Margaret Rucinsky of Seattle, WA; Mary Currier and Victoria Henley; sons, Joe Tantillo and Ray Tantillo all of Albuquerque. TEEL -- John Teel, 72, a long time resident of Albuquerque and Carlsbad, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 1, 2009 in his home in Albuquerque. Johnny was born December 7, 1936 to James R. and Ollie M. Teel in Vaughn, NM. They later moved to Carlsbad, where Johnny and his sister, Deanna, grew up. Johnny was star center for the Carlsbad Cavemen basketball team. After high school, John attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque earning a major in history and a minor in physical education. While there, he excelled at basketball and was the top scorer and rebounder for the UNM Lobos. After college, John was drafted into the Army and played ball for the Army team. Returning to Carlsbad in 1973, John went to work for the Potash Company of America, and was a loyal employee for 26 years. John is survived by his son, Michael A. "Andy"; daughter, Catherine A. Teel of Auburn, CA; sisters, Deanna Overstreet and husband, Tom, and Claudette Maddox; grandchildren, Michael and Emily Clemence; and several nieces and nephews. Johnny will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle voice, unique sense of humor, and his dashing good looks. The sparkle in his eyes will never be forgotten.
