REL -- Braxton Rel, 10, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2008. He is survived by his father and mother, Stephen and Lorna Rel and his brother, Preston; grandparents, Cecil and Bonnie Wilcox and Cecilia and Joe Sena; and great-grandmother, Ruby Peter. He is also survived by his Aunt Debbie, Aunt Sue, Aunt Lisa, Aunt Monika, Aunt Dani, Uncle Keith, Uncle Mike, Uncle Kevin, and Uncle Todd; cousins, Justin, Beverly, Chelsea, Aubrey, Michelle, Ashton, and Alexyss; and his pets, Freckles, Buster Brown, Sable, and Pooch. Braxton was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sharon Wilcox and his grandfather, Bernard Rel. Braxton was a strong but compassionate goalie who loved to play hockey. He was his mother's son. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at French Mortuary - Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE. A reception at 10000 Signal Ave NE will immediately follow the service. RIVERA -- Pedro "Pierre" Rivera Jr., passed away Friday December 12, 2008. Pedro was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico in 1922. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Gismonda "Giselle" Ettore of Tunis, Tunisia North Africa:; his mother Isabelle, father Pete, his brother Clarence Rivera of Las Vegas, New Mexico; and his sister Pedie Janzer of Apple Valley, CA. He is survived by his sisters Evangeline Kosinski and Ann Ahlness of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and also sister- in -law Agnes Rivera of Las Vegas, New Mexico; Brothers- in -law Richard Janzer of Apple Valley, CA, and Howard Ahlness of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Pedro also had numerous nieces and nephews. Pedro was a veteran of WWII having served in the Army Air Corps. He flew 40 combat missions in North Africa on B26 bombers as a radioman and tail gunner. He met his future wife Giselle in Tunis, Tunisia North Africa in 1943 and they were later married in Las Vegas, NM. Pedro attended NM Highlands University and Albuquerque Business College and received a degree in accounting. Pedro worked for a short time for Shell Oil Co. as a Field accountant in Caracas Venezuela. After working in Venezuela, Pedro then went to work as superintendent at the American Military Cemetery for the American Battle Monuments Commission in Carthage, Tunisia North Africa. After many years in Carthage he then transferred to the American Military Cemetery in Luxembourg and then on to the American Military Cemetery in Normandy, France where he served until his retirement in 1982. Pedro and Giselle then moved to Nice, France where they lived for the next 12 years. After Nice they moved to Albuquerque in 1994 and lived there for remainder of their lives. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday December 17, 2008 at French Mortuary Wyoming Blvd Chapel. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. ROMERO -- Paul M.Romero, 89, a life long resident of Albuquerque went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 13, 2008, surrounded by his loving Family. Paul had been a life long member of the Catholic Church, first as a devoted parishioner of San Felipe Catholic Church until 1965 after which he attended Holy Ghost Catholic Church. He is predeceased by his parents Federico and Anastasia Romero, his wife Regina T. Romero, his daughter Regina Marie Romero, his brothers Charles Romero and Joe Romero. He is survived by his children; Betty Ann Romero of Albuquerque, NM, Connie Gallien and husband Wil of Stockton, CA, Paul A. Romero and wife Mary Lou of Albuquerque, NM, Robert A. Romero and fiancee Judy Bustos of Albuquerque, NM, numerous, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great-grand children and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Flora Sanzone and husband Chuck. Paul was member of NARFE-Chapter 80, and a life member of the VFW-Post 401, he proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII, in the South Pacific. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at the 8th Street Chapel at Garcia Mortuary, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with Rosary following immediately at 7:00 pm. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, located at 833 Arizona St SE. SCHLEY -- Deidre L Schley, of Corrales, NM, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, December 11, 2008, after a courageous and inspiring two year battle with cancer. Dee was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter and sister. Words are not adequate enough to commemorate her time with us on this earth. She will be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched. Dee was preceded in death by her father, Joe Stewart, Jr. and her brother, Joseph Lance Stewart. She is survived by her husband, Robert Schley; her son, Andrew; her mother, Juanita Stewart; her two sisters and their husbands, Natalie and Gary Wynne, Stasia and Kurt Pavlich; her brother and his wife, Christopher and Sabrina Stewart; and her two nephews Ryan McKibben and Isaac Stewart. SCHMIDT -- Rosella A. Schmidt, 83 yrs, of Fremont, NE, died 12/13/08. SCHOCH -- Doris Eloise Schoch of Albuquerque, New Mexico died December 9th, 2008 at 12:45 pm. Her twin daughters Lynn Schoch Varshneya and Lee Schoch were by her side. She was born October 8th, 1922 in Mt.Vernon, Illinois. She was the widow of Claude Schoch and preceded in death by her son Russell Schoch and her mother Ella Lowery. Survivors include her son Don Bond of Las Vegas Nevada and brother Duane (Betty) Lowery of Albuquerque, son-in-law Deepak Varshneya of Falls Church, VA, grandsons Neil and A.J. Varshneya, Scot Bond and granddaughter Cyndi Bond. A memorial will take place in Albuquerque, N.M. in the spring. Rest in Peace sweet Mother you are dearly loved.

SERNA -- Barbara Wray Serna passed away peacefully in Albuquerque on December 13, 2008 after a brief illness, with her children at her side. She had an abiding faith in God and a boundless love for her family. Barbara was born in Silver City, NM on February 10, 1925 to Leo and Juanita Wray. She is survived by her sisters, Edna Tryon of Woodstock, GA; Eva Clarke of Ruidoso, NM; Amy Werner of South Korea; by her son, David C. Serna of Albuquerque, wife, Patti, children Flor Isabel Serna, Emilia Serna, and Gisele Francisca (Kika) Serna; her son, Richard W. Serna of Nashua, NH, children, Wray Luisa Serna, and Antonio Roberto Serna; her son, Jeffrey P. Serna of Albuquerque, wife, Lupita, children, Renee Escamilla and Lindsey Escamilla; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. C. "Dave" Serna, who served for more than two decades as District Attorney in the Sixth Judicial District; siblings Francisco Lopez; Olga Carbajal; and Leola Alper. Barbara graduated from New Mexico Teacher's College with a Bachelor degree in Education, from Western New Mexico University with a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling, and from the Universidad Nacional Autnoma de Mxico, in Mexico City, with a Masters degree in Spanish Literature. Barbara and Dave Serna, who were high school sweethearts, were married in 1951. For most of her career, Mrs. Serna was a popular Spanish teacher at Cobre High School in Bayard, NM. Her husband passed away unexpectedly in 1977, and in 1979, she retired to Albuquerque where she pursued her passion for gardening. She was a certified Master Gardener, recipient of the Horticulturist of the Year award from the New Mexico Garden Clubs in 1987-88, frequently served as a Flower Show Judge at the New Mexico State Fair and elsewhere, and won many top honors at various flower shows over the years. Visitation will begin at 9 o'clock in the morning Saturday December 20, 2008 with a memorial service in celebration of her life to begin at 10 o'clock at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 3805 Delk Drive, Silver City, to be followed by concluding services and interment at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City.
