GORDON -- Margarita "Rita" von Disterlo Gordon, was born in San Francisco, CA on November 6, 1932 and joined our Lord in Heaven and her husband Robert (Robb) Allin Gordon on November 6, 2008 at exactly 76. She is survived by her son Mark Allyn Gordon, Sr., her faithful daughter-in-law Tanya Gordon, and two wonderful grandsons Mark Allyn Gordon, Jr. and Dylan Demetri Gordon - all of Chandler, AZ, and by her cousin Alex von Disterlo of Redwood City, CA, and not to leave out her poodle "Taco". Her parents, Vladimir von Disterlo and Alexandra Bakuieff boated to Redwood City, CA from China in 1903 on the S.S "TAIYO MARU" where she learned to play songs on her grand piano ranging from Beethoven's "Fur Elise" to Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer", and could sing them with her pure-sweet opera voice, before graduating from Sequoia High School and attended college at San Jose St. from 1950 to 1953. She met Robb and married 18 months later in the ancient ritual of the Russian Orthodox Church in December 21, 1956 which they wore the Russian Crowns and held lighted candles to symbolized their ever-lasting love for each other. They lived in Redwood City where Robb worked for the San Jose Police department as he already had four years experience from the Air Force. While Rita worked at Sequoia Hospital, where she became very knowledgeable in healthcare, she supported them so he could graduate from the Brooke Institute of Photography. She told stories of being so poor that they ate beans four nights a week, and shared them with fellow classmates of Robbs. They later moved to Los Alamos, NM in 1966 when Robb took a position as a cinematographer at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Rita the thankless job of a homemaker. There is where they met their life-long friends of Ted and Donna Spitzmiller, Wiley and Jane Gladson, and Mike and Rose Matuszak. They raised Mark Sr. into his teens supporting Robb's travels and Mark Sr. sports, which required her to raise Mark alone for long periods of time. When Robb passed away on November 23, 1983 at the age of 56, Rita went back to work at the local hardware store, then Dillards in Santa Fe, NM. She moved to Rio Rancho, NM in 1992 where she became very active in the "coffee clutch" and the "walking club" and Head Librarian of the Rio Rancho Senior Center where she completely re-organized the library by herself. After battling off colon cancer in 1999, Rita later moved to Chandler, AZ in 2004 where it returned with a vengeance. Given two years to live, Mark Sr. found the Block Center (BLOCKMD.COM), an Alternative Cancer Treatment Center in Evanstan, IL where she travelled every other week for 2 years without fail for treatments, which was a testament of her tenacious dedication and an inspiration to all to "do your best" as Robb always said, and to "not complain" as she suffered - but never showed it. These treatments allowed her to help her grandson's "learn to walk" and "Say Hello" as Mark Jr. remembers, and to "Give Hugs", as Dylan remembers. Rita was very giving to charity's of her choice and supportive friends such as the "Fraternal Order of Police", and the "Neighbor's Who Care" organization. She was the thriftiest shopper on the planet and was quick to make friends with a smile and a curious story. Mom, you will be missed by all that knew you. With no enemies on the planet, you will lead in heaven, as you did on earth - with your heart. Services are on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Meldrum Mortuary 52 N. McDonald and 1st Street in Mesa, AZ 480-834-9255 at High Noon.
