BARRERA -- In Loving Memory of Elias Galindo Barrera Elias passed blissfully into the arms of God in Heaven surrounded by his dear loving family at sunset on April 3, 2008. He was accompanied by his eldest daughter, Esmeralda Barrera-Mikkelson; son-in-law, Kenny; and their children, Felisha, William, and Christopher. Despite some of his major health difficulties, when the bardo of dying began to dawn upon Elias, he remained strong and brave, with a sharp-minded consciousness! Elias was born August 30, 1934, in Abilene, Texas, to his parents, Manuela Galindo and Cleto Mora Barrera. The Barrera family then moved to Big Spring, where Elias married and had four children, Esmeralda, Manuela (Nellie), Yvette, Wyman, and Lee. Elias worked his entire life as an Auto-Body/Painter. Five years ago, Elias retired and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, Friday-night boxing, playing-pool, and bird watching. Until five years ago, Elias enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle to Sturgis. Elias will be missed by his familia and friends. He is survived by his children; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grand children; his sister, Rosa Abreo; brother, Cleto; great aunt, Manuela Barrera Sosa, of Anthony, NM; and many nieces and nephews. Elias, a man of Faith, our friend, grandfather, father, brother, and son will be deeply missed. "Just days ago your eyes sparkled full of life, we will always see your smile, we will always hear your laugh! Our lives will never be the same without you, Thanks for all the memorable years and guidance!" The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Angels at Zia-Hospice. Also, to Father Miguel and Richard Montag of Prince of Peace Catholic Church who visited Elias weekly at his home. A Rosary Service was held on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home Chapel. Mass was held Monday, April 7, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the San Ramon Catholic Church in Woodrow with Reverend Nelson Diaz officiating. Burial followed at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held on April 26, 2008, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Albuquerque.

BENTLEY -- Loren Blanton Bentley Jr. was born October 4, 1943, in Minneapolis, Minnesota of Loren and Betty Bentley. He received a BA from McMurray College and an MA from New Mexico State University. Loren taught high school and middle school for 35 years in a number of districts throughout Texas and New Mexico and was currently employed in the Roswell Independent School District. He had been principal at Pecos and Sunset Elementary and Mesa Middle School. He was also the 1995 president of the NMMI Parents' Club. His love of computers and travel led him to become a private pilot and to employment with Radio Shack, where he became a district manager, but his greatest love was the classroom. He had been active in judo for 50 years. He was an active instructor for most of that time and had students worldwide. He followed the maxims of judo everyday of his life and exemplified jita kyoei. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marjorie; his children, Michelle Fox and husband Robert, Loren III and wife, Angela; three grandchildren, Chase A. Fox, Loren IV, and Justin Bentley; his father, Loren Sr.; and siblings, Brenda, John, Paul, and Curtis Bentley. He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty. Services will be Friday, April 11, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. at French's Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE. Albuquerque, NM. CASIAS -- Maria Amelia Casias, 74, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away during the early morning of April 8, 2008 with her husband at her side. She was born June 17, 1933 in Mora, NM. She was the middle child of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gregorio and Magdalena Cordova, and brothers Fred and Lorenzo. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Pat Casias; daughter, Veronica Jaramillo and husband Raymond; son, Henry Casias and wife Kathi; three grandchildren, Jessica Jaramillo-Anaya and husband Louie; Justin and Ryane Casias; and sisters, Viola Cordova and Marcela Valdez. She was a strong, beautiful, and loving woman who adored her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Her family's faith in God brings them peace, knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones and resting peacefully in Heaven. Mom, Grandma, we love you so much and we will miss you! COOK -- Pleas M. Cook, "Pop", passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, after a brief illness at the age of 84. CORWIN -- Ellera Judson "Cork" Corwin, Our honored and much beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died on April 8, 2008. He is survived by his spouse, Beatrice Janet Stevenson Corwin; his children, Kathleen Annette Corwin, Linda Louise Corwin, Steven Kim Corwin and wife, Joanne; grandchildren, Derek Luthy and wife, Jenny; and their children, Natalie and Parker, Cory Corwin, BoMee Corwin, Micah Corwin, Mariah Corwin, Asia Corwin; his sister, Betty "Penny" Eastvold; brother-in law; sisters-in -law; nieces, nephews, and friends. Ellera Corwin retired from Sandia Laboratories. He was also a World War II veteran, a Purple Heart recipient, and a Prisoner of War in Germany's Stalag Luft III, participating in the events of the "Great Escape" in that prison camp. EGAN-KIRKPATRICK -- Ella Egan Kirkpatrick, age 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Saturday, April 5, 2008. She was preceded in death by husband of 17 years, James A. Egan in 1958, husband of 5 years, Dahl J. Kirkpatrick in 1991, special friend, Alan Gross in 2001 and beloved sisters, Effie Wyche, Dot Bosley and Orrel Brownlea and brothers, George and Leonard Stanton. She is survived by son, James D. Egan and wife, Suzanne LaBelle and granddaughter, Elise Egan of Wilmette, IL; daughter, Sue Gunckel and husband, Fred of Albuquerque; step-son, John Kirkpatrick and wife, Carolyn of Albuquerque, step-daughter, Elsie Kimbrell of Arlington, VA and their children and grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ella was born to Elwin and Sarah (Hanson) Stanton on December 23, 1920 in Clinton, Minnesota, where she was reared. Ella traveled the world often in the company of her dear friend and co-worker, Mary Hensch. She retired from the Forest Service in 1983 as directives manager and editor. An avid genealogist since her retirement she was a member of the Genealogy Club of the Albuquerque Public Library for which she was honored as an "outstanding volunteer" in the Albuquerque Journal. She also spent many years as a coordinator for Meals on Wheels, served as president of the local chapter of Toastmistresses International, was a lifetime member of the Retired Federal Employees Assn. and the Forest Service Amigos for which she edited the newsletter, and was a longtime member and Deacon at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Her final years were spent at Grand Court in Albuquerque where she served as an officer in the Residents Assn. Cremation has taken place. ELDER -- Floyd C. Elder, 76, a resident of Albuquerque, passed from this life on Thursday, April 3, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ellen; son, David of Albuquerque; step-daughter, Lisa Fletcher of Ohio; six grandchildren; brother and sisters, Everett Elder of Roswell, Maidie Lee Werner of Pittsburgh, PA, and Dorothy Brinkley of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, Delbert Hawkins of Las Cruces; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two siblings, Cecil Elder and Winnie Mae Hawkins. Floyd was born on September 24, 1931 to the late Lee and Bertha Elder. He worked at Sandia National Laboratory for 33 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of B.P.O.E. 461, and the American Radio Relay League. ELLIS -- Marie H. Ellis, 91, of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. She was born May 24,1916 in Dunkirk, WI. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Fay M. Ellis; two sons, James F. Ellis and Phillip M. Ellis; a brother, Daryl M. Hanson; a sister, Eldean Soward. She is survived by her children, Cathy Irvin and husband, Bill, Janet Elliot; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Ellis, all of Albuquerque. Ted Ellis and wife, Barbara, of Montgomery, TX; Chuck Ellis of Dallas. She is also survived by a brother, Borg Hanson, of Bloomington, MN; a sister, Joan Stanton, of Canton, GA. Marie has eight grandchildren, Keith Ellis, Karli Venable, Cristen Tyson, Justin Irvin, Todd Ellis, Jason Ellis, Lisa Elliot, and Leslie Hughes. Marie has nine great-grandchildren, Ethan and Paden Hughes, Aiden and Avery Ellis, Tyler and Ashlynn Ellis, Jackson Elliot, Lily Tyson, and Noah Venable. FISHER -- 1934 - 2008 Kenneth Joe Fisher, known as Joe or Joseph, 73, a resident of Tijeras and former longtime resident of Belen, went to meet our Lord on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, with his family by his side. Born June 12, 1934, to Chester Jackson and Rebecca Vineyard Fisher in Stanley, NM, he attended school there through the seventh grade. He and is parents moved to Los Costancia in the Belen area, and he attended school through the ninth grade, then went to Keene, Texas and graduated from Southwestern Seventh Day Adventist Junior College. In 1954, he moved to Albuquerque, and shortly after, met the love of is life Glenda Nell Culp, in Belen. They were married on June 12, 1957, and were happily married for 51 years until his death. He worked for many places and enjoyed many trades, being employed in road and building construction and the AT&SF Railroad in Belen from 1958 to 1967. He and his wife, Glenda, owned and operated Culp's Western Wear and Automotive from 1966 to 2004. In 1982, he developed and subdivided land in Tijeras until his death. He is survived by his wife, Glenda (Culp) Fisher; their three children, Gerald Fisher of Coppell, Texas, Anita and Clyde Wages of Belen, and Susan and Kent Miller of Belen; nine grandchildren, Tamra and husband, Kevin Scott, Kristin D. and husband, Earl E. Chavez, Joshua and Jessica Thomson, Marc and Ryan Miller, Carlton, Brian and Kristen A. Fisher; their great-grandchildren, Earl B. and Kaitlyn Chavez, and Hendrix Scott two brothers, Jack and Chester W. and wife, Margaret Fisher; two sisters, Effie and husband, Howard Birch, and Reba Mooney; a sister-in-law, Iris Fisher; a brother-in-law, George R. GARCIA -- Richard Michael Garcia went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at the age of 58. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Aurelio and Rosaura Candelaria; paternal grandparents, Bernardino and Anita Garcia; brother, Anthony T. Garcia; nephew, Vincent J. Garcia; brother-in-law, Leonardo Abeyta and beloved mother-in-law, Barbara G. GELT -- Philip A. Gelt, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for over 30 years died Saturday, April 5, 2008. He is survived by his sons, Thomas Ven der Gelt, PhD of Germany and Andrew L. Gelt, PhD of Hollywood, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Martha, who died in 1990. Mr. Gelt was an Electronics Technician in the US Navy during WWII, 7th Fleet boxing champion in the navy, amateur radio examiner, retired Electrical Engineer for 33 years at Sandia Lab, licensed private pilot, and a gifted musician and composer. Early in his life, he conducted several bands including his own band that included his two sons and wife as members. His greatest gift to his family and friends was his love of music. Following his retirement from Sandia, Philip performed hundreds of concerts at numerous Senior Centers and Nursing Homes in Albuquerque. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 11, 2008, 9:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos NW. HAMMOND -- Juanita N. Hammond died surrounded by family in Albuquerque on April 3, 2008. She was born on August 8, 1924 in Purcell, Oklahoma, and she graduated from Purcell High School in 1942. She married Wayne R. Hammond in 1945, and together they lived and traveled both in the U.S. and overseas in his work as a geologist with Socony Mobil Oil Company. Upon retirement from that job, they relocated to Albuquerque in 1960 and opened Plaza Books, Inc. which continued in business for 27 years. She is survived by her brother, James E. Norvell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and her two daughters, Mary and her husband ,Kenny Williams, and Ruth and her husband, Jarrett Galbreth, of Albuquerque. She was predeceased by her son, Mark Hammond; and Wayne Hammond. After retiring from business, Juanita enjoyed cooking, roses, and reading, as well as travel with her husband, especially to archeological sites throughout the southwest, Mexico, and Central and South America. Her passing brings sadness to our family, and her presence is greatly missed. Graveside services in Purcell, Oklahoma will take place on April 12, 2008. A Private Memorial gathering in Albuquerque will take place in coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her name to the Albuquerque Public Library, 501 Copper NW, 87102.

LAVANDOSKI -- Theresa L. Lavandoski, 91, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, April 6, 2008. She was a resident of Albuquerque for over 60 years. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Theresa is survived by her two sons, Robert and his wife, Terry and Joseph; four grandsons, David, Steven, Ron and Tom; granddaughter, Jana Henton; great-grandsons, Collin and Nolan Henton; her sisters, Lillian Lyko and Alice Keck; and brother, Edward Koziol. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, daughter, Carolyn and granddaughter, Krista. Theresa lived her life with integrity and generosity. She was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, opening her heart and home to everyone. she helped raise and care for not only her own children, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor, determined spirit, and dedication to her family. She will be sorely missed. MERCER -- Allen V. Mercer, a resident of Albuquerque for over 60 years, died on April 10, 2008, in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Mercer was born on July 23, 1926, to Lafe and Lena Mercer, in Prescott, Arizona. Allen worked for the Army Corp. of Engineers for more than 30 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, from July 17, 1944 to June 10, 1946. He served on the USS Carlisle in the Pacific and has been attending reunions with shipmates for the past 13 years. He was a member of BPOE- Lodge 461 for 52 years. Allen is survived by his wife Helen; son, Lloyd Mercer and Beth Herring; daughters, Carla Mercer, Lynn Mercer, Phyllis Fetherolf; grandsons Trey Mercer and Nicole Liberty, Dillon Lesniak; granddaughters, Alex Lesniak, Renee Kissinger, Tami Buhr; sister, Dorothy Eddleman; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. PASCETTI -- Melio Pascetti, age 95, peacefully went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, in Albuquerque, NM. He was born to Giacinto and Angelina Pascetti, the son of Italian immigrants, and he grew up in Dawson, NM. Melio later moved to Albuquerque, NM and married his childhood sweetheart, Josephine Ann Cimino. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII, where he fought at Normandy during D-Day. Melio will be remembered for his amazing determination, optimism, and deep sense of commitment to his wife and family. He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine; their children, son, George Pascetti and wife, Susan, of Durango, CO; daughter, Angela Scarberry and husband, Ted, of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Damian Pascetti, Ted Scarberry and his wife, Amanda, and Tim Scarberry; three great-grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua, and Gio Pascetti; three brothers, Angelo, Valentino, and Jack Pascetti; and one sister, Carmen Lozano. PILKENTON -- Winnie F. Pilkenton, age 86, passed away Tuesday, April 08, 2008. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph H. Pilkenton; and daughters, Linda Sue and Mary Ann Pilkenton. Winnie is survived by her son, Dan W. Pilkenton; and her sister, Ella Mae Burns. Winnie's family wishes to express our special thanks to Wendy Klein, of Hospice de la Luz, for the loving care she provided to Winnie. PITTELL -- Glenn Pittell died suddenly April 8, at age 55. Glenn was a sculptor, collector of rustic treasures, would-be bull rider, Scrabble enthusiast, dart fiend, and a gourmet/gourmand with a special affinity for his outdoor kitchen. Glenn was a much-loved husband, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor in the Fringecrest community. Glenn was also a dedicated mental health professional who brought commitment and tenacity to his work with clients and their families. Glenn was raised on his beloved Galveston Island, and those environs had a profound influence on his loves and life. Glenn received his BFA from the University of Texas in Austin, and went on to a MA in Art Education with Art Therapy emphasis at UNM. Glenn took great pride in introducing an art therapy program to the Albertina Kerr Center in Portland, Oregon where he worked with behaviorally-disordered adolescents. Returning to New Mexico in 2001, Glenn continued his mental health work at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital, most recently as a discharge planner for the inpatient psychiatric unit. Glenn is survived by his wife, Lynn Hillas; sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Bob Randall, of Galveston; niece, Clair; and nephew, Spencer; brother and wife, Mark and Sue Pittel, of Houston; and nephew, Mike. Glenn will be remembered for his compulsion to befriend, screwball humor, and expansive heart. WRIGHT -- Dianne Lee Wright, 61, went to be with the Lord on Friday Apr 4, 2008. Born November 9, 1946, to Daniel and Della Sisk in Phoenix, Arizona. Spent most of her life here in Albuquerque where she raised three wonderful and loving children, whom she is survived by: Sam, Lyle, and Charlie. She is also survived by her mother, Della Sisk; and sister, Penny Treharn and husband, John; three grandchildren, Sam Jr, James, and Melina; one nephew, Troy Treharn and family. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother, who cared for others before herself. She touched our lives and will live in our hearts forever. Her family will miss her carefree sense of humor and daring outlook on life. There will be a viewing on Saturday Apr 12, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. at the Gate of Heaven Chapel at 7999 Wyoming NE, followed by a Celebration Service at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel, and burial will follow.
