BARRERA -- In Loving Memory of Elias Galindo Barrera Elias passed blissfully into the arms of God in Heaven surrounded by his dear loving family at sunset on April 3, 2008. He was accompanied by his eldest daughter, Esmeralda Barrera-Mikkelson; son-in-law, Kenny; and their children, Felisha, William, and Christopher. Despite some of his major health difficulties, when the bardo of dying began to dawn upon Elias, he remained strong and brave, with a sharp-minded consciousness! Elias was born August 30, 1934, in Abilene, Texas, to his parents, Manuela Galindo and Cleto Mora Barrera. The Barrera family then moved to Big Spring, where Elias married and had four children, Esmeralda, Manuela (Nellie), Yvette, Wyman, and Lee. Elias worked his entire life as an Auto-Body/Painter. Five years ago, Elias retired and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, Friday-night boxing, playing-pool, and bird watching. Until five years ago, Elias enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle to Sturgis. Elias will be missed by his familia and friends. He is survived by his children; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grand children; his sister, Rosa Abreo; brother, Cleto; great aunt, Manuela Barrera Sosa, of Anthony, NM; and many nieces and nephews. Elias, a man of Faith, our friend, grandfather, father, brother, and son will be deeply missed. "Just days ago your eyes sparkled full of life, we will always see your smile, we will always hear your laugh! Our lives will never be the same without you, Thanks for all the memorable years and guidance!" The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Angels at Zia-Hospice. Also, to Father Miguel and Richard Montag of Prince of Peace Catholic Church who visited Elias weekly at his home. A Rosary Service was held on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home Chapel. Mass was held Monday, April 7, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the San Ramon Catholic Church in Woodrow with Reverend Nelson Diaz officiating. Burial followed at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held on April 26, 2008, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Albuquerque.
