MONTOYA -- John Louis Montoya, age 62, passed away in Albuquerque on Tuesday, February 7, 2007. He was born October 9, 1944, the son of Maximilliano and Gloria Gallegos in Big Spring, TX. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Patricia; his three children, Annamarie, Cecilia, and John; his three grandchildren, Megan, Jacob, and Gabriel; and his mother Gloria. John was also a caring and devoted son, son-in-law, and friend who never hesitated to lend his help and support to everyone in his life no matter the circumstances. John served proudly in the U.S. Army, 1962-1966, where he earned the rank of sergeant. In 1966, John and Patricia married and began a new life in Los Angeles where he held successful positions in management at the Los Angeles Airport and, later, Grantham Industries. In 1974, John, Patricia, and their two young daughters moved to Albuquerque, where their son was born. At the age of 26, John suffered renal failure and would battle this illness for the rest of his life. Through it all, he continued to provide for his family and persevered with an unfailing spirit and a warm sense of humor. John was known to family and friends as a person who seemed to know how to fix anything, who was trusted for his everyday wisdom, and could always make people laugh. His courage, generosity, and humor touched everyone he knew. Funeral Services will be on Monday, February 12, 2007 at French Mortuary-Wyoming Blvd. Chapel at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Lem Boyles officiating. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. NUNN -- LOUISE E. Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Louise passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 in Carlsbad, NM after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was a longtime resident of Albuquerque, having lived, loved, worked, played, and raised her family here before moving to Carlsbad to be with her daughter, Holly. She was born in 1921 in Springerville, AZ. She graduated as an R.N. from Mills College of Nursing in San Francisco and worked at Mt Zion Hospital there. She married the love of her life, Hollis W. Nunn in 1946 and they had many great years together before he passed away in 1984. Nursing was her calling and she gave her heart to her work. She worked as a surgical nurse in California and Arizona and then worked at Lovelace Clinic for over 25 years, most of that time in Pediatrics working with severely ill children. She loved gardening, shopping, theatre and the great outdoors, but traveling was her passion. She traveled the world over and was always up for a new adventure. She is survived by her son, Pat (Celese) in Albuquerque; daughter, Holly in Carlsbad; daughter, Kathy Foster (Dennis) in Utah; four grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Harper (Merle) in Springerville; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque on Monday at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Santa Fe at the National Cemetery at a later date.

PELKEY -- Luke James Pelkey, born August 8, 2006, went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2007. Luke is survived by his parents, Fred and Kim Pelkey of Albuquerque; brother, Moses Pelkey of Silver City; sister, Beckey Pelkey of Albuquerque; sister, Chenoa Pelkey of Tucson, AZ; maternal grandparents, Herman and Betty Wenzel of Cedar Falls, IA; paternal grandparents, Wesley and Lucy Pelkey of Silver City; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a niece. RODOLPH -- Carl P. Rodolph, PE, Col. USA, 81, died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Facility in Walsenberg, CO. Carl was born on January 17, 1926, in Oklahoma to Carl Pettus and Mattie Lee (Keeter) Rodolph. He was graduated from high school in Gladewater, TX, and immediately joined the US Army in 1943. He became a tail gunner in a B-29 and received the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism in battle in the Pacific theater. Carl returned from the service to study management at Texas Tech University, where he also played football. While there he met and married Dolores (Dorie) Rosenbaum and they were happily married until her untimely death in 1996. They had six children: Michael, Joe, Patricia, Ben, Abe, and John (deceased). After graduation, he rejoined the US Army, this time in the Corps of Engineers, receiving a Civil Engineering degree from the USM (Rolla). They moved to Albuquerque in 1980 after Carl retired from the Army in Hawaii. He soon became the city Director of Municipal Development, responsible for the planning and publication of the City of Albuquerque Development Process Manual. He left the city services to serve as head of Greiner, Inc., where he retired again. Shortly afterward, Mayor Louis Saavedra asked him to become acting director of the city Aviation Department, where he oversaw a 400-million dollar modernization of the Albuquerque Sunport. While in Albuquerque, he became very active in the New Mexico Society of Professional Engineers, serving as Chapter President, State President, and Director to the National Society of Professional Engineers. He took his professional Engineering license seriously and was the heart and soul of the state society for some 20 years. He received awards of Engineer of Year and Ingeniero Veterano de Nuevo Mejico. He was also active in the Society of American Military Engineers and multiple Veterans organizations. Carl was a long-time member of Hoffmantown Church. Carl's rejoining the military led to a 30-year career that was served with distinction. He was responsible for military engineering work in support of major Army and Navy construction and contract work worldwide. During this career, he served with the 101st Airborne and again proved heroism by receiving two Silver Stars in separate combat engagements. He received an MS in International Affairs at George Washington University and graduated from the Command and General Staff College and the National War College. Carl earned the Eagle Scout award as a teenager and this established a value system that stuck with him through the rest of his life. Loyalty to God and the United States were without compromise. He had a firm handshake, he looked you in the eye, and he offered an infectious grin that immediately made you want to like him. When his value system was challenged, he would defend it with vim and vigor, but he was always tolerant of diversity in opinion and action. Always trim and fit, he skied and played handball into his 70s. In skiing, he liked the slopes steep and fast, and he specialized in fast reactions and a competitive spirit in handball. Carl met and fell in love with Kathleen (Kathy) Testolin, whom he married in 1997. They moved to Angel Fire in 2002 and he kept up his longtime hobby of home building and renovation. He became an active member of the Angel Fire Baptist church and further served his community with the Angel Fire Fire Department Support Team. Carl is survived by his wife, Kathy, and five children. The sons live in Albuquerque and Patricia lives with her husband in Phoenix. He is also survived by his sister, Mollie Krattiger (husband, Tom) of Albuquerque, and brother, James (wife, Nancy), from Tucson. Extended family includes 4 grandchildren and a niece and nephew. Carl was cremated and will be buried at a later date. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 12, 1:00 p.m., at Hoffmantown Church. SALAZAR -- Felipe (Phil) Salazar, born in Lamy, NM on May 28, 1929 was called home by our Lord on Thursday, February 8, 2007 surrounded by his wife and children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Felipe and Vivianita Salazar; 12 siblings; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dolores and Eusebio Muller. Phil is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Celina, and their children: Yvonne Salazar of Rio Rancho, NM, Al Salazar and wife, Cindy, of Albuquerque, Gertie Salazar of Rio Rancho, Cathy Vigil of Albuquerque, Deacon Phillip Salazar and wife, Starr, of Eurika, CA, and Annette Salazar and fiance, Frank Casaus, of Rio Rancho; his adoring grandchildren, Ashley Perry and husband, Gabriel, Dennis and Ryan McCool, Jonathon Vigil and Jackie Stoll, Angela, Lauren, Jessica and Christopher Salazar, Ty Hunter Franco, Joshua, Nathaniel, and Kadalina Perry. He is also survived by his sisters Estephanita Trujillo and Kena Vigil, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Phil attended grade school in Lamy, NM, and high school in Stanley, NM and graduated with a BS in Business Administration from the University of Albuquerque in 1977. Phil volunteered in the US Navy in 1950 and served during the Korean War receiving four battle stars. During this time he was exposed to asbestos resulting in terminal Pulmonary Fibrosis. Phil worked for the Atkinson, Topeka, and the Santa Fe Railroad in Albuquerque from 1954 until 1968 and with the NM Air National Guard. He was called to active duty for the US Air Force with the NMANG during the Vietnam Era stationed in Korea. He returned to Albuquerque and continued his employment with the NMANG with the State Staff. In 1979 Phil accepted a position as a Federal Investigator and was promoted to Federal Supervisory Investigator with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Memphis, TN. He also transferred to the Tennessee Air National Guard retiring as a SMSGT. In 1986 he was promoted and transferred to Little Rock, AR where he retired as EEOC's Administrative Officer in 1989. Phil retired after 29 and one-half years of military and civilian service to his country. He received many awards and medals. Upon retiring, he returned to New Mexico making his home in Rio Rancho. Phil received great comfort during his illness from his love and faith in our Lord; he was active in the Catholic Church and belonged to Saint Thomas Aquinas, as well as the Church of the Incarnation, in Rio Rancho, serving as a lector in both parishes. Phil served on the Middle Rio Grande Council of Governments representing Sandoval County; served eight years as President and Vice President of the NM Democratic Club; a member of the Democratic Party Central Committee; a member of the American Legion Post 118 in Rio Rancho; a member of the Veterans Monument Committee as well as Past First Vice Commander Disabled American Veterans West Mesa Chapter 5; and a life member of the DAV Shelby County Chapter 70, Memphis, TN. He was appointed by Governor Richardson to the Korean War Veterans Advisory Board serving from 2003 until 2006. He loved sports, playing basketball in high school and continuing his love of baseball by playing softball with the 65 and older league until 2003 when his illness had him hang up his cleats. Phil enjoyed traveling, fishing, the Green Bay Packers and singing. Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 Monday, Feb. 12th in Daniels Family Funeral Services chapel, 4310 Sara Rd. in Rio Rancho. A Rosary will be held on Monday, February 12, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Road, Rio Rancho, NM, recited by his nephew Deacon Anthony Trujillo. The Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 13, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Road, Rio Rancho, NM, and officiated by his nephew, Father George Salazar, and assisted by Father Rick Zerwas, Deacon Phillip Salazar, Deacon Anthony Trujillo and Deacon George Meyerson. Interment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho. Pallbearers are Dennis McCool, Jonathon Vigil, Ryan McCool, Christopher Salazar, Gabriel Perry, and David Trujillo.
