CASTILLO -- Nona Castillo, 88, a resident of Albuquerque and Belen, died Saturday, October 27, 2007. She is survived by her four children, Elizabeth Kirby and husband, Bill, Gloria Castillo, Michael A. Castillo and wife, Anna, and Steven Castillo and wife, Martha; five grandchildren, Pamela Blackwell, Todd Kirby, Erin Castillo, Ashley Viney, and Adam Castillo; brothers, Ruben Sanchez, David Sanchez, and Claude Sanchez; sisters, Esther Sandoval, Tillie Fresquez, and Corine Gallegos; and numerous other relatives and friends. Nona was preceded in death by her parents, David S. and Mercedes Sanchez; and sisters, Erlinda Sanchez and Lilly Carasco. She was born in Belen, NM on June 8, 1919 and graduated from Belen High School. Nona attended the University of New Mexico and St. Joseph's College where she obtained her degree in Elementary Education. She was a dedicated school teacher for 47 years teaching in Los Lunas and Belen. Because of her love for teaching and children she was reluctant to retire. Education for herself and others was an important focus of her life. Nona was an avid gardener and artist, and was involved in pottery making. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, teacher and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd.,Wednesday, October 31, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. to Rosary at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Ave. NE, on Thursday, November 1, 2007, 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Cemetery, Belen, NM at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Benny Sandoval, Todd Kirby, Adam Castillo, Leonard Sanchez, Michael Castillo, Frank Gallegos, Jr. and Steven Castillo. Honorary Pallbearers will be her brothers.
