GAETA -- Sister Mary Grace Gaeta 1922 - 2007 Felician Franciscan, Sister Mary Grace Gaeta passed away on August 25, 2007, at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Provincial House in Rio Rancho, NM. Born in San Bernardino, CA, she was the daughter of John and Altagracia (Castruita) Gaeta and in baptism was given the name Carmen. The eldest of seven children, she often took on the responsibility for their care. Her primary and secondary education years were spent in Southern California. After her high school years, Carmen worked for ten years helping to support her family, having lost her father shortly after high school. A Franciscan at heart, she became a member of the Third Order Secular of St. Francis on January 8, 1950. On September 8, 1951, Carmen entered the Felician Franciscan Congregation in Chicago, IL. At the investiture ceremonies in 1952, she was given the name Mary Grace, to which she gave special meaning during her entire life as a Felician Sister. In 1953 and 54 she served the community using her gift as a seamstress and tailor. In 1954, she began her teaching ministry which took her to CA, TX, AL and OK, at twelve different locations. With untiring patience and compassion, Sister Grace taught children from kindergarten through fifth grade, often teaching three grades in one classroom. During the 1986-87 school year at Sacred Heart School, in Pomona, CA, she also ministered to her aging mother in neighboring La Verne, CA. After thirty-four years of teaching, in 1988, Sister Grace returned to the provincial house in Rio Rancho to once again minister as a seamstress. In 1992, at the age of seventy, Sister Grace joined Sister Margaret Marie Padilla, to open the first Felician Mission in Ejido Santa Maria in Coahuila, Mexico. The harsh conditions of the area did not prevent her from working to evangelize, visit homes, promote base communities, work to establish justice for women and children and the local coal miner. She also shared her skills in sewing and assisted the women of the area with marketable hand crafts. In 1993 sister made her final return to Rio Rancho where she served as a seamstress and driver. In her spare time she worked on beautifully executed needle point and embroidery projects. She also found time to provide catechetical instruction at San Ysidro Parish in Corrales, NM until 2004, when declining health forced her to curtail her active ministries. In spite of some physical limitations, Sister Grace continued to care for flowers and the wild birds. Daily she would bring bird seed to her feathered friends on the "South Side." Whenever she was unable to feed God's creatures herself, she was sure to find a substitute for this service. This gentle and caring nature was always characteristic of the way Sister Grace lived her life. Gentle by nature, she was always kind, nourished by her deep devotion to the Blessed Mother, especially to the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. She also had a very strong devotion to the Holy Family. Sister Grace maintained strong ties with her own family. Her desk top was filled with family photos, mostly of the youngest members, who always brought a smile to her face. She was and will be known for her gentle strength and quiet counsel and for forgiveness and peace making in all her relationships. Sister Grace was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Peter Gaeta. She sis survived by her brothers, John, Joe, Ray, and Jesse Gaeta and her sister, Hope Moreno. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at the Provincial House Chapel, Rio Rancho. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Albuquerque. JONES -- Everett Earl "Zeb" Jones of Albuquerque, NM, a 33-year employee of Kerr McGee Corp. and decorated World War II Navy pilot, died August 21, 2007 at a specialty hospital in Norman, OK, of complications from congestive heart failure. He was 84. He will be laid to rest at Veteran's National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M., on Sept. 6. at 3 p.m. Everett Jones was born an only child to Zeb Jones and Naomi Hinson Jones in Union County, NC. After graduating high school, he studied geology at Wake Forest University before signing up to fly fighter planes in the Pacific during World War II. He served two years of active duty and later received an honorable discharge from the Naval Reserve in 1956 as a Lieutenant. During his time in the naval reserve, he earned a degree in geological engineering at North Carolina State University and began his career with the Atomic Energy Commission. In 1952, he signed up to work with Kerr McGee Corp. near the Arizona-New Mexico border, piloting planes that mapped mineral deposits in the American West. "It was fun but it was also pretty risky," long-time friend, Phil Ellsworth said of flying 100 feet above the cliffs in rickety propeller planes. "The thing that made it is better was his sense of humor." During a summer assignment in Wyoming, Jones met and married Louise Robinson, a Wyoming native, in 1953. They had three children in Wyoming before moving to New Mexico and later to Arizona to raise the kids. When the children finished high school, Jones moved to Edmond, OK, to work at Kerr McGee's headquarters. An avid golfer, Jones enjoyed every minute spent on the golf course. Upon retiring from the company in 1985, he and his wife retired to an adobe villa on the western mesa of Albuquerque, a chip shot from the fairway of Paradise Hills' golf course. For more than a decade, Jones' grandchildren, their parents in tow, converged in the summer on the Jones home to chase roadrunners across the golf course or tiptoe through the lava-rock lawn. He helped teach his only son and several grandchildren to golf. To his grandchildren, he was always "Papa Zeb." Louise "Weezie" Jones passed away in January 1998, after 45 years of marriage. Jones traveled in 2003 to South America, visiting Brazil, the Falkland Islands and the beaches of Chile. He moved back to Oklahoma in August 2005 to be closer to his eldest daughter. Aside from his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Zeb Jones and Naomi Hinson Jones; and a grandson, Joseph Jones. He is survived by his three children. Janis Slater, 53, of Norman has two children, Grant and Rebecca. Jo Ann Williams, 51, of Casper, WY, has seven children: Gabriel, Brian, John, Samuel, Jason, Benjamin, and Haley. His son, Robert Everett Jones, 50, lives in Casper as well.

WILLIAMS -- Katherine (Gramma Kay) was born in 1910 in Saginaw, Mi and after a long and good life passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque on September 1, 2007 at 97 after a valiant effort to recover from both shoulder and hip surgery. She was very grateful to Dr. Sean Hassinger who agreed to operate to give her the best chance to recover completely. As a former RN she told him she knew the risks, "went all the way to dead. Operate!" Kay also worked as an assistant physicist for Douglas Aircraft during the Second World War and later owned New Mexico Hearing Aid Center in Albuquerque. Kay was dearly loved and an incredible inspiration to her family and to everyone at Liberty Gym, Quota Club, and the Presbyterian Ear Institute. She amazed all with her willingness to try what ever caught her interest, never letting her age get in the way. No one at the gym could slack off after watching her on the chin-up machine or the free weights. She believed in giving to the community and participated in all Quota's, projects. She stayed aware of the projects at the Ear Institute and supported them with her time and resources. She rode her bicycle into her 80s and drove her car into her 90s without terrifying her loved ones too much. She was an avid oil painter, world traveler and a superb best friend. Kay is survived by her son, Brian Tyree, his wife, Sandra and grandson, Ryan Gunter. Also by: T.L and Sue Lancaster, Wally Book, Cindi and Jon Sundell, Tami and Larry Ortiz, Scott and Sheila Gunter, Margaret and Roy Morgan, Jean and Mike Westfahl, Molly and Jim Brandau, Jinkle Seagrave and Bill Rahe; plus many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Kay was preceded in death by her son, Tom Tyree and granddaughter, Sheri Book. The family is very grateful to Ambercare Hospice and Alternative Nursing Services for the loving care they provided. Kay requested cremation and no services but rather "a party", date to be announced later.
