ARCHULETA -- FRANK JR. Our dear Frank Archuleta, Jr. was called by Our Lord on Saturday, June 16, 2007. He was born in Cuba, NM on February 10, 1934 and was a resident of Albuquerque. He was an active member of the First Spanish Baptist Church. Frank is survived by two daughters, Marcella and husband, Gilbert Rodriguez, Jr. and Patricia Archuleta; three brothers, J. Vicente Archuleta and wife, Elsie, Prospero Archuleta and wife, Inez, and Richard Archuleta; sister-in-law, Sally Archuleta; three sisters, Josephine Gutierrez, Prescilla Ramirez, and Annie and husband, Gilbert Montes; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be Prospero Archuleta, Richard Archuleta, Aaron Garcia, David Montes, Anthony Archuleta, and Mike Ramirez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gilbert Rodriguez Jr., Vicente Archuleta, Albert Archuleta, Juan D. Candelaria III, and George Montoya. Frank was always willing to help and comfort people in need. He was witty and was always joking and making people laugh. He will be greatly missed. BARKER -- Doryne M. Mrs. Doryne M. Barker, 77, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico passed away on June 23, 2007. Mrs. Barker is the beloved wife to Mr. Don Barker, married for 49 years. BENTON -- Leontine "Tina" Marie Benton, 88, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, June 2007. A resident of Albuquerque for 61 years, she was born in Dallas, TX on May 18, 1919. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bruce; son, Jim, of Auburn, WA; daughters, Peggy and husband, Wayne Lipps, of Napa, CA, Barbara and husband, Fred Ellis, of Santa Fe, NM, Sylvia and husband, Eric Livingston, of Washington, DC, and Teresa and husband, Mark Campbell, of San Pedro, CA; grandchildren, Holly Lacey, Amanda Wilson, Ryan Ellis, Rachel Ellis, Austin Campbell, and Margaret Campbell; great-grandchild, Adrienne Lacey; and sisters, Betsy Davis and Nancy Ladowski. Tina was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Peggy and Madaline; and brothers, Bruce, Chuck, and Joe. After graduating from North Dallas High School, she attended Southern Methodist University on scholarship. She married Bruce Benton on March 6, 1943 while he was stationed in the Army Air Corps at Love Field. They moved to Albuquerque in 1946. She was the ultimate multi-tasking mother and homemaker devoting herself to her husband and children and their many and varied activities. She loved her family and was especially fond of her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She retired from the University of New Mexico as the Associate Director for Research. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, New Mexico Retired Educators, and Daughters of the American Revolution. After retiring, she gave generously of her time, volunteering at the North Valley Senior Center. Cooking, gardening, traveling and photography were her favorite pastimes. Cremation has taken place. BERRY -- Frances Wilson, a lifelong resident of Albquerque, NM passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at the age of 81. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Thomas Berry and her parents, Coach FM Wilson and Ruth Wison of Albuq. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed greatly by both family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Janet and son-in-law, Edward Beltz; her grandson, Edward Thomas Beltz; granddaughters, Christy Smith and husband, Donald Smith; and Shannon Bletz as well as five great-grandchildren. A Celebration of her life will be held on June 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church, Girard and Lomas Blvd NE.

BYRD -- Lt. Col. Johnnie "John" Lane Byrd, USAF, (Ret), 63, a resident of Albuquerque since 1995, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 12, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kathy Byrd; two daughters, Heidi Chambers and husband, J.W., of Crothersville, IN and Cathi Archuleta and husband, Ken, of Woodland Park, CO; two grandchildren, Samantha Chambers and J.W. Chambers, Jr.; brother, Donald Byrd of Las Vegas, NV; his beloved Labs, Winston and Ebony; other family; and many friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Birdie Byrd; and his favorite Lab, Me-A. He was born in Asheville, NC on November 22, 1943 while his father was serving in the United States Army in the South Pacific. John was a graduate of Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO with a BS in Sociology/Anthropology. He was also in Air Force ROTC at Colorado State. He received his MS in Human Development Counseling from Troy State University in Montgomery, AL. During his career in the Air Force, John was a Maintenance Staff Officer and graduated from Squadron Officer School and Air Command and Staff College. He served at Bentwaters RAF, England; Korat AFB, Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict; Hickam AFB, Honolulu; and several other posts. John was the first F-15 maintenance officer to serve with USMTM, Saudia Arabia. Following retirement he worked for Lear Siegler Co. on a DOD military sales contract in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia from March 1990 to August 1995. John enjoyed gardening, golf, his family and many friends. He was a loving husband and father and will be lovingly missed by all who knew him. CASAUS -- Albino, age 88, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007. He was born in Cuba, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents Fermin and Sinaida Casaus; wife Clara Hernandez; and great-grandson, Paul Harper. Albino is survived by his daughters, Senaiya Overmyer and husband Donald and Elizabeth Chavez; grandchildren, Linda Casaus, Sunshine Millsap, Geena Overmyer, Cassandra Ketchum, and Gregory Ketchum, II; three great-grandchildren; brother, Gilbert Casaus; sisters, Dolores (Lola) Martinez, Lila Casaus, Rosa Valdez, and Carolina Casaus; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. CHAKERIAN -- Florence Chakerian Born January 21, 1918 in Boston, of Armenian immigrants, resident of Albuquerque since 1940, passed away June 18, 2007. Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jerry Chakerian. Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, in-law, and friend. To those who knew and loved her, she embodied boundless curiosity and devotion to social justice. Her joy with each new day taught those around her to embrace life. There will be no service at her request, but her memory can be honored by making donations to animal or humanitarian organizations. We shall miss her.

CHAVEZ -- Alex J. Chavez, 84, died on June 20, 2007. He was a loving, gifted, gentle man, born in Capulin, Colorado on November 9, 1922. He served his country in WWII and his friends, his parish family, and hundreds of choral and voice students from Colorado, to New Mexico, to Malaysia, to Mississippi. Most of all, he served his own family as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Alex is survived by his wife of 43 years, Virginia ('Ginger') Stoudt Chavez; his previous wife, Elizabeth; eight daughters, Dorothy, Catherine, Elisa, Michelle, Mari, Carol, Loretta, and Kirstin; and two sons, Gregory and Timothy; as well as twenty-six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Alex was a recognized and published folksinger and song arranger, celebrating especially the traditional Spanish heritage music of New Mexico and Colorado. He arrived in Ocean Springs, MS on June 16, 1997 and made the Church of the Redeemer his spiritual home, where he contributed regularly as an usher, in the choir, and on committees. In honor of his life and work, he would ask that those moved to make gifts, make them to the Church of the Redeemer's Building Fund. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date to accommodate as many of his friends and family as possible. His loving sweetness will be deeply missed by all of those who know and love him. CLOUGHLY -- Mary Louise Bezemek Cloughly, 90, of Claremont, passed away in her sleep November 25, 2005, in Claremont. Born November 5, 1915, in Albuquerque, NM, she was a Claremont resident since 1977. Youngest of the four children of James Bezemek and Mary Frances McKnight Bezemek, Mrs. Cloughly grew up on the large dairy owned by her parents. A graduate of Albuquerque High School, she was Honored Queen in Job's Daughters. She received her BA in Economics and did graduate study in education at the University of New Mexico. Mrs. Cloughly taught English in Espanola and Albuquerque for almost 40 years. She served as secretary of the Albuquerque Classroom Teachers Association and was a member of the New Mexico Retired Teachers Association, the Chi Omega Sorority, and the Order of Eastern Star. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and is survived by her daughter, Cecilia Louise Cloughly of Claremont; granddaughter, Heidi Louise Bird of Claremont; grandson, Charles Cloughly of Georgetown, KY; great-granddaughters, Ainsley and Alyssa Bird; and two nieces, Sharon Gorman and Marcella Farmer, both of Albuquerque, NM. A Graveside Service for Mary Louise will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Fairview Memorial Park located at 700 Yale Blvd. SE, Albuquerque, NM. COMBS -- Robert S. "Bob" Combs, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, died peacefully at home, Wednesday, June 20, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Julia Cocks Combs; children, Bobbi Boldon of Denver, CO, Dan Brennan-Combs and wife, Mari of Glenwood Springs, CO, Sharon Combs of Denver, Lee King and husband, Jerry of Albuquerque, Debbie Cook of Austin, TX, David Bedwell of Sequin, TX; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Norma Howard of Miles City, MT. Mr. Combs was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Combs; second wife, Polly Combs; son, Randy Combs, and daughter, Rita Barrett. Bob was a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous with over 38 years sobriety. He had owned and operated Combs Auto Parts in Cedar Crest. He served as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force, the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. First Lt. Combs was awarded the Silver Star. COSTALES -- Lola C. Costales, 80, of Albuquerque, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007. She was born February 22, 1927 to Jose and Rebecca Chavez in Albuquerque. She married Benjamin Z. Costales on September 17, 1952. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2001 after 49 years of marriage. Mrs. Costales was a life long member of El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church of Albuquerque, where she was involved with the church choir and active with the United Methodist Women. She was a devoted Christian woman who loved the Lord and her family very much. She is survived by her children, Ben Jr. of Lakewood, CO, Nathan, Joanne Kincheloe and husband, Al, Kenneth and wife, Debbie, Rebecca Ramirez, Michael Gedra, and Mark Costales all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Stephanie, Suzzette, Nicholas, Danielle, Jamie, Gabriel and Erika. D'AGOSTINO -- Carl Joseph D'Agostino, age 93 and a resident of New Mexico for 74 years, died on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 in Portales, NM, following an illness. Carl was born July 16, 1913 in Schenectady, NY to the late Rufo and Annunziata (Bonhommo) D'Agostino. Carl is survived by his wife of 73 years, Emily Fraissinet D'Agostino of Portales; three sons, Carl J. D'Agostino Jr. and wife, Evelyn of Orangevale, CA, James P. D'Agostino and wife, Bernice of Portales, and Paul R. D'Agostino and wife, Alice of Albuquerque; brother, Rev. Fr. Joseph P. D'Agostino of NY; sister, Helen O'Brien and husband, Joe of VA; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In 1933 Carl moved to Socorro, NM to attend what was then known as New Mexico School of Mines. It was there he meet the love of his life and future bride Emily. They were married on April 16, 1934 in Socorro. After serving in the U.S. Army during WW II Carl returned to Socorro where he became the Postmaster, a job he held until his retirement in 1972. Carl and Emily lived in Socorro until 1993 when they moved to Albuquerque. In March of 2007 they moved to Portales to live with James and Bernice. Carl was a devout Catholic and a life time member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th degree Knight in the Belen Council. A viewing and visitation will be held Sunday, June 24, 2007 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Steadman-Hall Funeral Home, 309 Garfield Socorro, NM. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. in San Miguel Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 25, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in San Miguel Catholic Church with Fr. DRYDEN -- James Alden Dryden, born December 24, 1928, passed away June 21, 2007. Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years and light of his life, Addie; children, Brenda, Tracy, and Lawson; and grandchildren, Skyler, Eden, Mathew, Lee, Jessie and Dallas. Jim served in the Korean War, earned his Masters in communication at Syracuse University and spent his career managing public television stations. Always active, Jim was an avid world traveler and photographer, and enjoyed exceptional computer skills. He will be so very missed by his wife and family, who will share a private celebration of his life in lieu of a memorial service. DURAN -- Casey S. Duran, 92, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2007. Casey was born in Duran, NM. He retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant after 23 years and later worked for Civil Service at Kirtland AFB for 15 years. Casey's greatest satisfaction came from caring for his parents until their death. He was a loyal fan of the UNM Lobos basketball and football and he attended all the games; he loved his flowers and enjoyed working in his yard. Casey is survived by his two sisters, Bessie Duran of San Diego and Ida Garcia and husband, Robert of Albuquerque; several cousins; 27 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. Mr. Duran was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Mary Duran, and ten brothers and sisters. Rosary will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2007, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. EASTBURN -- Dorothy "Dottie" Eastburn passed away May 23, 2007 in Laughlin, NV at the age of 74. She was born in Albuquerque on November 22, 1932. She moved to the Los Angeles area in her teens and shortly thereafter married the love of her life, Thomas (Tom) Eastburn. She was an 18 year resident of Laughlin from 1986 to 2004. She reunited with family and friends in ABQ from 2004 to 2006, but returned to Laughlin at the beginning of this year. Dottie spent a good portion of her life in retail cosmetics with Estee Lauder and later in jewelry sales in Laughlin. Her zest for life, ever-present optimism, and love of family and friends will be remembered and greatly missed by those who knew her. An endearing memory for many will also be Dottie's new-found pastime, traveling the countryside on a Honda Hog. She is survived by her son Greg, his wife, Teri, and their three children Evan, Erin, and Cameron of CO; her two daughters, Teri Rae of OR; and, Shari Brown and her husband, Bo of TX; and, her half-brother, David Padilla and his family of CA. She will be deeply missed but her family and friends will forever cherish her memory. No memorial service will be held per Dottie's request. However, a burial service for both Dottie and Tom will be held July 2, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1900 Buchanan Blvd in Boulder City, NV. ENCARNACION -- Aurea V. On Monday, June 18, 2007, Aurea Virgen Encarnacion Bayron Cruz went to her final rest. Her daughter Mary and son-in-law Michael were by her side. Aurea was married to Ramon for 57 loving years before his passing in May, 1993. She was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico to Ramon Bayron and Maria Magdalena Cruz on August 15, 1916. She was preceded in death by six siblings. Mama is survived by her son Ramon Enrique Encarnacion Bayron; daughters, Edmee Julia Encarnacion Bayron, Mary Madeleine and husband, Michael Newman; grand-daughter, Mercedes Elena and husband, David Hernandez; grandson, Michael David Newman; great-granddaughters, Cristiann Aurin and Keishla Edmee Jordan; nieces, Gladys E. De Jesus, Carmen Luisa De Jesus, Felicita Bayron England, nephew Rafael Emilio Bayron; sister-in-law, Ramona (Monin) Encarnacion Cepeda; and her children, Joe, Felix and Reyna, and extended Rio Rancho family and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Rio Rancho Nursing Home for their loving care especially Ethelann Mayer and Erlinda Mendez. Aurin, as she was called, was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed being with family and friends, giving sage advise, was known for her fantastic Puerto Rican cooking and marvelous sense of humor. She's at peace now. ESQUIBEL -- Arthur "Ish" Esquibel, 80, an Albuquerque resident, died on July 21, 2007. He supported New Mexico as the Chief of Police in Las Vegas, New Mexico, State of New Mexico Hearing Officer and retired as the Manager of the State of New Mexico, Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles, Driver Services Bureau, Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was trained in Judo (Black Belt), enjoyed carpentry, reading, and on occasion, "liquid wheat". GARCIA -- Steve Paul Anthony Garcia, 40, was welcomed into heaven on the morning of June 22, 2007. He was born April 1, 1967 in Albuquerque. Steve attended MacArthur Elementary, Garfield Middle School and graduated from Valley High School with honors. Steve attended UNM and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and bowling with his friends and family. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. Steve worked for Intel for a short time; he also worked for ADS Technologies in Dallas, TX; and AMEC Test Laboratory in Albuquerque. Steve was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Albuquerque. He loved to play the saxaphone and was a member of "La Gavia" band in Albuquerque. Steve is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jesse and Eugenia Gerhardt; paternal grandparents, Ezequiel and Victoriana Garcia; two uncles, Fred Gerhardt, Luis Garcia, and an aunt Josephina Nieto. Survivors include his parents, Ezequiel and Oma Garcia of Albuquerque; three brothers ,Gene Garcia of Santa Rosa, Danny (Mary) Garcia of Salt Lake City, UT, Leonard (Delia) Garcia of Las Vegas, NM; and one sister, Vicki and husband, Mike Dare of Broomfield, CO. HAINES -- BENJAMIN HILL Dr. Benjamin Hill Haines, a Las Cruces oral surgeon, died Wednesday afternoon at his Las Cruces home of over 50 years. A native of the Mesilla Valley, Dr. Haines was born February 24, 1917, at Hill, NM, a small village established by his mother's family. Dr. Haines joined the Medical Detachment of the 120th Engineers, commanded by the well remembered Dr. Robert E. McBride while still in high school. Dr. McBride established the first hospital in Las Cruces. He attended New Mexico State University and received his dental degree from the University of Southern California. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon social fraternity, Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity and Alpha Tau Epsilon, the honorary dental fraternity of U.S.C. After graduation from U.S.C., Dr. Haines established his practice in Las Cruces in 1941. During World War II, Dr. Haines served as a U.S. Army dental officer from 1942 until 1946. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with bronze stars for New Guinea, the Northern Solomon and the Western Pacific. Dr. Haines also received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, and the American Theater Service Medal. During the Korean conflict, Dr. Haines again served as a dental officer with the Army from 1950 to 1952. Then, for the third time, he began his civilian practice in Las Cruces. Dr. Haines was very active in professional, civic and church work. He had been a member of 14 different professional organizations including The American Dental Association, The American College of Dentists,The Rocky Mountain society of Oral Surgeons, The New Mexico Dental Association and the Southwest District Dental Society. He was a Past President of The New Mexico Dental Association, Past President of the New Mexico State Board of Dental Examiners, and a three-time Past President of The Dona Ana County Dental Society. He was the first dentist to become a member of the Active Staff of Memorial General Hospital. He received this appointment, with unlimited privileges in oral surgery in 1960. On May 31, 1966, Dr. Haines was appointed to the Building committee of the new Memorial General Hospital, which opened on July 22, 1971. This was particularly significant in his life as Las Cruces had no hospital while he was growing up. The high point of Dr. Haines' professional career occurred in 1960 when he became the seventh New Mexico dentist to become a Fellow of the American college of Dentists (FACD). Dr. Haines has had numerous scientific articles published in the United States, South America, and in Europe. He also presented a paper before the scientific session of The American Dental Association in Philadelphia in 1961. Requests for reprints of his articles have been received from all over the world. For a number of years Dr. Haines was an active member of The Rotary Club. He was also the Past President of The 20 - 30 Club, and Founding President of the first Toastmasters Club of Las Cruces. In 1964, Dr. Haines was President of the Men of Saint James' Episcopal Church in Mesilla Park, NM, an organization he helped found. He was a licensed lay reader St. James and served several times as a member of the Vestry of that Church. As part of his continued work with the Church, he met with the Bishops of both the Episcopal and Roman Catholic churches to develop and establish the first joint retreat of the two Churches in the United States. This retreat took place in 1964 at the Holy Cross Retreat, Mesilla Park. Dr. Haines served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Dona Ana County from 1984 through his retirement in 1987 He had been a member of that board since 1961. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Julia Gifford Haines; his four sons with their wives, Ben H. Haines Jr. and Sandra Herkenhoff, Edward Morris and Nyeta LaDon Haines, Brian Douglas and Lilly Caballero Haines, and Brandon Hill and Nance Kells Haines; as well as his two granddaughters, Laura Sue Haines and Cynthia Elaine Reynolds; his niece, Dory West; and his nephew, Lee E. Haines, Jr. A viewing for Dr. Haines will be held at Graham's Mortuary Chapel located at 555 W. Amador Avenue this Sunday, June 24, 2007 from 4 to 6 p.m. with a guided evening prayer to be conducted at 5 p.m. Services will be held Monday morning, June 25, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Saint James' Episcopal Church in Mesilla Park, NM with interment to follow at Masonic Cemetery in Las Cruces. HECKMAN -- William O. Heckman, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for nearly 20 years, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Marilynn Cooper; his son, William Frederic Heckman and daughter-in-law, Margaret; and daughter, Ann Elizabeth Riggs and son-in-law, Bob; seven special grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor H. Mooney and Margaret Sherman; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by Opal, his first wife and mother of his children. He was born July 7, 1921 in State College, PA. The family moved to New Jersey where he grew up and graduated from Asbury Park High School. Bill enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and was commissioned February 12, 1943. His military service during WWII was unique in that he served in both the European and Pacific Theaters. Honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1946, he went on to earn his BA from Rutgers University in 1947, and an MA from Columbia University in 1948. Bill's lengthy career in higher education included 30 years as an English Professor at Fullerton College in California. A friend and mentor to his students throughout his life, Bill supported many organizations including the United Nations Association, League of Women Voters and the Democratic party. HENZE -- Leroy Henry Henze, known to his many friends as Lee, passed away May 23, 2007 at age 85. He was born unto Otto and Ida Abel Henze October 12, 1921 in New Braunfels, TX. He grew up in San Antonio, TX. He had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1963. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Grace Salzman Henze, a former school nurse and by his brother, Nelson Henze survived by wife, Audrey of Temple, TX. They had four children, Mark and wife, Alicia of Fort Worth, Matthew and wife, Patricia of Kernersville, NC, Sharon and husband, William Burnett of Plano, TX and Diane McDonald of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Henze Williams, Christopher and David Henze, Erin and Lyndsey Burnett and Kristyn and Emily McDonald; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Christina and Nicholas Cooper. HILL -- Iris Hill, 89, recently of Osakis, MN, and long-time resident of Albuquerque, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 13, 2007, in Alexandria, MN. Iris was born September 9, 1917, in Waskeda, Manitoba, to Thomas and Louisa (Mutter) Jones. She was married to George Hill of Newburg, ND, on December 6, 1944. Iris and George resided in Fargo, ND, Idaho Falls, ID, Moorhead, MN, Lewiston, ID, and Albuquerque, NM. She was a dedicated servant at her churches, serving on alter guilds and worship committee, and sewing for bazaars. The most important things to her were her family, friends, and God. She deeply loved her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, George A. Hill; her sister, Irene; and son-in-law, Carl. ORTIZ -- Esequiel Eloy (E.E.) was called home to our loving father on Friday, June 22, 2007. He was born April 23, 1925 in Las Vegas, NM to Juan and Barbara Ortiz. He was raised on the family ranch in the mountains until his eighth grade year by his maternal grandparents. He began the eighth grade in Las Vegas, NM at Immaculate Conception Catholic School. Upon graduation from high school he was a patriot and volunteered for the U.S. Navy during WWII where he proudly served as a Machinist's Mate. During his service he was awarded the Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Area I Star, American Area. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He became ill while serving our country and was brought stateside, eventually to the Albuquerque VA Medical Center. Through his roommate at the VA Medical Center, he met the love of his life, Monica Salas. They were married on February 20, 1954 and spent 53 wonderful years together. His first career was in Snyder, TX as an office machine mechanic for 20 years. In his "spare time" he built a house from the ground up. In 1971 he and Monica relocated to Albuquerque to begin his job with the US Postal Service as a mail handler. He retired in 1994 after 23 years of service. Eloy was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th degree Grand Knight, Past-President, Woodmen of the World, Life-time member of VFW, and was Vice President of the Mail Handlers Union at the U. S. Post Office. He was a voracious reader and could not start his day without reading his morning paper. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Monica Salas Ortiz; children, Marquita Ortiz, Larry Ortiz, Dr. Elizabeth Palmer and husband, Patrick Palmer, and Mary Ortiz; grandchildren, Madeleine Palmer and Brooke Palmer, all of Albuquerque; his siblings, Helen Dominguez of Santa Fe, Flora Sanchez of Albuquerque and Ralph Ortiz of Las Vegas, NM. PACHECO -- Alicia Marie Pacheco of Pyallup Washington died June 20,2007 peacefully in her home. Alicia was born in Albuquerque New Mexico, August 21,1973 to Rudy and Raelee Pacheco. Alicia moved to California with her family in her early teens. Alicia enjoyed spending time with her family, she was a very independent woman who courageous struggled with a severe head trauma making everyday life challenging. She was a beautiful woman with lots of life. She loved spending time with her brother every chance she had. Alicia moved to Washington state in 1998 where she later had her daughter in 2005. PETERSON -- Lester Warren "Pete" Peterson, 96, passed away June 16, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born July 28, 1910 in Philadelphia, PA, to Warren and Margaret Peterson, and was a resident of Albuquerque since 2001. Pete was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and the United Autoworkers Union, as well as a founder and board member of Fabulous Felines Cat Rescue Charity. He is survived by two daughters, Merry Stubblefield and her husband, William of Albuquerque, NM, and Patricia Weir and her husband, Arthur of Philadelphia, PA; five grandchildren, Patty Lynn LaBadie, Richard LaBadie, Glenn LaBadie, Patti Gail Weir, and Arthur Weir; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren. PLOTSKY -- JEANETTE PLOTSKY January 14, 1909 - June 16, 2007 Born in Paris, France to Louis Willion and Sophie Adaskas Willion, on their way from Vilna, Lithuania, to the United States. She grew up mostly in Bensonhurst in Brooklyn, New York, married Irving Plotsky in 1946, and had one son. She lost her husband in 1953, then moved to Los Angeles in 1963, where she worked at Cedars Sinai Hospital for thirty years, and finally to Albuquerque in 1997, to be close to her son and his family. She died peacefully at the Country Oasis in Corrales, holding her daughter in law, Mary's, hand, showered with love. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her youngest sister Adele Goldman, her sister in law Nellie Rosen, and her husband, Robert Rosen, by her sister Ruth Popkin's husband, Morris, and by their daughter, her much beloved niece, Vicki. She is survived by her son David, his wife Mary, her grandchildren Jordan and his wife Bree, by Abraham, his wife Amanda, and their four month old son Asher, and by Katy Dougherty. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Popkin, her niece Louise Popkin, her nephew Michael Popkin, his wife Lisa, and his sons August and Clare; also by her husband's brother Jack Plotsky and his wife Beverly, by her husband's sister Edith Breslof, and her husband Lester, by her nieces and nephews, Frank Rosen, Shelly Leeds, Donna Klein, Ina Kupferberg, Raymond Breslof, Donald Plotsky, their wives and children, and by a host of adoring friends far too numerous to list. PLUNKETT -- THOMAS J. Col. Thomas J. Plunkett, USA, (Ret.), 86, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2007. He is survived by his son, Thomas W. Plunkett and wife, Theresa of Albuquerque; one grandson, Thomas J. "T.J." Plunkett; and many friends. Col. Plunkett was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Plunkett, in 2001 and his parents, Thomas W. and Lena M. Plunkett. He was born on May 14, 1921, in Albuquerque and graduated from St. Mary's High School and the University of New Mexico with a B.B.A. Degree in Business Administration. Col. Plunkett was a member of PHI Kappa Alpha. After graduation he went to work for the armed forces Special Weapons Project and from there he went to the Atomic Energy Commission. He proudly served during WWII, the Korean Conflict, Vietnam and Desert Storm. During that time he worked for the Reserve Program where he commanded two groups and ten battalions. During WW II he served in the Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron in the India and Burma Theater. After his retirement, Col Plunkett served in the army reserves. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 1969 and the Legion of Merit in 1975 for exceptional meritorious service as Commander, 156th Support Group, in Albuquerque. Col. Plunkett was a loving father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. ROYBAL -- Isidro Roybal, 83, born in Los Colonias to Eliseo and Rosenda Roybal, died Thursday, June 21, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Emma Velasquez Roybal; his children, Robert Roybal and wife, Karen, Carmen Palya and Mary "Tay" Gallegos and husband, Garry; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Jake Roybal; sisters, Carmen Vigil and Josie Sandoval and husband, Leroy; and many other family members. Isidro was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Rose Marie Rovelli. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather as well a teacher and friend to his family. Mr. Roybal served his country during WW II in the U.S. Navy on the USS California. IZZY was a recipient of several medals including the Purple Heart. He was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish. SACHS -- Chad Sachs, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2007. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isleta, NM. Chad attended Los Lunas High and Independence School in Rio Rancho, NM. He worked for the family business "Your Tile Connection" as a tile setter. Chad enjoyed playing golf with his dad and his true love was music. For being so young he was a music connoisseur, so his love for music spanned all kinds of different music. He was a talented poet and writer, and was often found writing about life around him. Chad loved his mom, dad and his extended family meant everything to him. He was a gentle soul and was known to be a very loyal and true friend. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Herman Sachs; maternal grandfather, Miguel Gurule, Jr; uncle, Michael Sachs and his cousin, Jacob Baca. Chad is survived by his parents, Chris Sachs and his wife, Teresa of Rio Rancho, and Pauline Gurule Sers and her husband, Michael of Los Lunas; two sisters, Monique and Ashley Sers; paternal grandmother, Shirley Sachs of Belen, NM; maternal grandmother, Frances Gurule and her husband, Frank Gallegos of Los Lunas; and his loving friend, Franchesca Cruz. THOMPSON -- Owen Locke Lear "Tommy" Thompson, age 79, passed away peacefully in the hospital on June 19, 2007, after suffering an accident. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Frances Starnes Thompson, and two brothers, Otto A. Thompson and William O. Thompson of Monroeville, AL. He is survived by his son, Blake A. Thompson of Albuquerque and Denver, CO; and his dear nephew and nieces, Otto A. Thompson, Jr., of Tokyo, Japan, Sally Misner, of Cottonwood Heights, UT, and Vicki Broadus-Owens, of Monroeville, AL; and extended family. Tommy, or Locke as he was known in his hometown, grew up during the Depression in a financially-strapped but loving home, working a variety of jobs to help out. He joined the military upon his eighteenth birthday in 1946, serving in the occupation forces in Japan. He left the army and attended Troy State University in Alabama before being called back to active duty at the start of the Korean War. Through success in aptitude testing and training programs, Tommy advanced through the enlisted ranks to become a Special Agent of Military Intelligence and earn an officer's commission. He served in Korea and Vietnam, and commanded the Military Intelligence units in New York and Vermont before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1970. Tommy met Fran in Albuquerque in 1952, where she worked for the Dept. of Defense. They married a couple of years later and their son, Blake was born in 1961. After Tommy retired from the military, they moved to Albuquerque, their adopted home. Tommy began working in real estate, specializing in vacant land, and built his company, Tommy Thompson Realty, developing a reputation for honesty and integrity, values that governed his entire life. Tommy was also active in the ballooning community, working as a crew chief for numerous pilots and serving on the board of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta for many years. Tommy never considered fully retiring, remaining active in his business through his final day. He loved meeting new people, had countless friends and acquaintances, and he always looked for ways to help others. His good cheer, generosity, supportive nature, and great compassion will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. A Memorial Service for the deceased will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Asbury Methodist Church, 10000 Candelaria NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112, (505) 299-0643. VELARDE -- Randolph (Randy) A. Velarde, a life long resident of Cuba, NM, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2007, after a long term illness. He was preceded in death by his previous wife of 26 years, Rose Velarde; his parents, Ignacio and Theresa Velarde; and granddaughter Tahnee Schwarze. Randy is survived by his loving wife, Florence McCoy-Velarde of Cuba; his children, Victoria Van Dame and husband, Nick, Randy Velarde Jr. and wife, Julie, Paul Velarde and wife, Lynn; his precious grandchildren, Taeru, Vaughn, Bailey, Halie, and Paul (The Pope) Jr. Also surviving are his sister, Reyna Emerson and husband, Jim Malesich; brothers, Louie Velarde, and Tom Velarde and wife, Marla; nieces and nephews, Steve, Cheryl, Elizabeth, Keith, Carl, Chris, Tracy, Kelly and Kaysha; many other family members and a host of friends. Randy will be remembered for faithful and uninterrupted delivery of the U.S. Mail to the Eastern part of the Navajo Reservation for over 30 years. Randy also served as Mayor for the Village of Cuba, NM for many years and enjoyed working on his ranch. Randy spent his life dedicated to his family and friends. No words or descriptions can give his life more meaning. He truly was a man of men. He did everything for everyone else and never asked for anything in return. All we can say is that we loved him and he loved us. We will miss him greatly. WENDELL -- Martin R. Wendell, 79, peacefully passed away on June 14, 2007. He is survived by his wife, son, two daughters, and son-in-law. Known to friends and family as Bud, he moved to Albuquerque from Los Angeles in 1952 because of his love for hunting and fishing. In 1967 he opened the first Pup 'n' Taco location outside of California. The drive-up restaurant later became known as Pop 'n' Taco, and it remains a distinguishable landmark on Route 66. Bud was a veteran of the Army and served in Japan after the war. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Those who knew Bud will miss his sense of humor, great stories, and boundless appreciation for learning.

WRISTON -- John Wesley II, 12 years old died suddenly in a bicycle accident in Ste. Goar, Germany on June 12, 2007. He is survived by his parents, Rick and Anja Wriston and his sister ,Winnie; his maternal grandparents, Manfred and Karin Schneider; godparents, Ralf and Jana Schneider; and cousin, Dominic; as well as other aunts, uncles and cousins. John attended LBJ Middle School and was very active in his church and was part of the Children's Choir. He was an avid swimmer, Boy Scout, and was part of the tennis team at his school. ZIMMERMAN -- Mary Sue Zimmerman, 84, was a resident of Albuquerque until Thursday, June 21, 2007, when she was called home by the Lord. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, she had great faith in the promise of being reunited with her family in heaven. The world has now lost some sweetness with her passing and she will be greatly missed by all. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Bobby L. Zimmerman; brothers, William Adolph Hopper and G.W. Hopper; sisters, Sally, Rae, and Linda Jeanne; niece, Tamara; and nephew, William Curtis. Mary is survived by a brother, Bobby Dale Hopper of Camden, AR; a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Beecher and husband, Everett "Sonny" of Albuquerque; son, Robert Rory Zimmerman of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Cheri "Jay" Zimmerman of Albuquerque; she has numerous nieces and nephews in many states and was especially close to niece Chas L. Frazer of Livermore, CA. Mary served in the Army during WWII and Korea and was honorably discharged.
