ALVEY -- Ada Marie Nabors Alvey, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, December 1, 2006. She is survived by her daughter Sandy Sporn and husband, Richard of Evanston, WY; two grandchildren, Jeremiah and Sasha; two great-grandchildren, Kodi Marie and Ryley Bo James; sister, Frances Reed and husband, Red of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.G. and Josephine Nabors and her brother, Bill Nabors. Marie was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church and retired as a secretary from UNM. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. BRUMMETT -- Geraldine "Jerri" Brummett, 88, a resident of Rio Rancho for 22 years, went to be with the Lord Thursday, November 30, 2006. She is survived by her sons, Larry Brummett of Rio Rancho and Wayne Brummett and wife, Mary of Placitas; grandsons, Eric Brummett and wife, Kelly and Chad Brummett; great-granddaughter, Emily Brummett, all of Albuquerque; and her Jack Russel Terrier, Skeeter. Mrs. Brummett was preceded in death by her husband, D.E. "Cuz" Brummett in 1986. Jerri had been very active at First Baptist Church of Albuquerque. Mrs. Brummett was a member of First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho. Prior to having to give up driving, she ministered to shut-ins at several nursing homes. Services will be held Monday, December 4, 2006, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Pastor Kevin Warner officiating. BUFFINGTON -- Ellen S. Buffington, age 77, of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2006. Ellen was one of four children born and raised on a farm in Central Missouri to Walker and Sophie Sanders. She graduated from Central Missouri University with a degree in Education. Ellen taught school in Mexico, MO, where she met and married Jim C. Buffington who preceded her in death in 1986. Ellen and Jim raised their three daughters, while living in the Midwest, before moving to Albuquerque in 1972. They were longtime members of First United Methodist Church and served in many roles within the Church. Following Jim's death, Ellen reentered the workforce as a receptionist at Walker Real Estate until a few years before her death. She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Buffington of Carr, CO and Barbara Brown and husband, Vincent of Albuquerque; son-in law, Steven Odenbaugh of Milliken, CO; grandchildren, Vanessa and Shawna Odenbaugh of Greeley, CO, George and Sophie Brown of Albuquerque; sisters, Ruby Nunn of San Diego, CA, Mara Lou Yeckl and husband, Frank of St. Louis, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Sanders and her eldest daughter, Valerie Odenbaugh. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW. GARCIA -- Robert (Sarg) Garcia, born June 12, 1917, died on November 8, 2006. Veteran of World War Two, he served in the Phillipines, was in the Bataan March, received the Purple Heart, two Bronze Star Medals. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eva Garcia. They had one son, Robert Ernest Garcia, a Vietnam Veteran who predeceased him in death; two grandchildren, Ernie Garcia and Jason Garcia; and six great-grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Service held for Robert (Sarge) Garcia on December 7, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Destiny Church of Albuquerque, located at 5300 2nd St. NW. GERLACH -- Opal W. Schmitt McDonald, 97, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, December 1, 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Klein Abeyta and husband, Ben; grandchildren, Bill Klein of Grand Lake, CO and Joan Roig and husband, Jay of New Bern, NC; great-grandchildren, Shawn and Sarah Klein of Colorado, Genevieve Roig of North Carolina; step grandchildren, Brenda Lial and husband, John, Duane Abeyta and Madonna Martin and husband, Jeff of Sun Valley, ID; and step-great grandchildren, Justin and Sara Lial, Rhiannon Lopez, Devon and Kiersten Martin of Sun Valley, ID, nieces and nephews, as well as friends and loving caregivers at LaVida Llena and Ambercare Hospice. She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Frank Schmitt, Maple "Mac" McDonald and Fritz Gerlach; parents Oscar and Emma Roberts, brothers, Floyd and Glenn, sisters, Nina, Ferne, Lenora and Neva. Opal was born on October 15, 1909 in Columbus, NE. In 1927, Opal married Frank W. Schmitt and they lived in Charlotte, NC, Alton, IL and Kirkwood, MO. Opal and Frank spent many summers at the Cheley Colorado Camps in Estes Park, CO. Opal moved to Albuquerque in 1988 to be close to her daughter. She was a member of OES and a Past Matron. She loved square dancing, swimming, traveling and hiking the Colorado Mountains. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at LaVida Llena Retirement Community, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE, with Rev. Gerry Lightwine officiating. MONTOYA -- Antonio "Tony" Montoya, age 74 our beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 30, 2006. He is preceded in death by his son, Jeff Montoya and an infant son. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Anne Montoya of Pena Blanca, NM; his children, Kathleen Montoya and husband Richie DeCesare of Rio Rancho, NM, Angela Abate and husband Stephen of Chandler, AZ; grandchildren, Elyse Calderon and husband Jose, Vanessa Gabaldon, Alexa Abate and Nicholas Montoya Abate; great-grandchildren, Haley Calderon and Lea Calderon. He is also survived by his sister Ameila "Molly" Andrews and husband William. Antonio was born in his home of Pena Blanca on June 13, 1932. He was a graduate of Northern New Mexico Normal School where he was affectingly known as "Steady". Upon graduation, Antonio honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Newport and USS Randolph. He was a lifelong resident of Pena Blanca where he was a successful rancher and businessman. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed. A Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pena Blanca on Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery. SCOTT -- Carol Scott, 74, a resident of Albuquerque died Friday, December 1, 2006. She is survived by her son, Ernest Scott and wife Pam of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Teresa Simmons and husband Marquez; grandson, Daniel Youtsey and wife Lyn; great-granddaughter, Alexis; cousins, Robert McGuffin and wife Dorothy, Dolores Curry and husband Tommy; and uncle Jim Evans. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Scott in 1985. Carol was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all. Her greatest joy in life was simply being with her family. SHUSTER -- Helen Benner Shuster born November 14, 1922 in Park City, Montana died Friday, December 1, 2006 in Albuquerque. Born into a farming community, Helen studied nursing and on December 29, 1943 joined the Army Nurse Corps. As a 1st Lieutenant, she did overseas duty on the US Army Hospital Ship, Marigold. She served in both war theaters--in Europe for the invasion of Southern France and then to the Pacific until the end of the war. During the war, she met her husband-to-be, Don Shuster, as a patient under her care. After a short courtship and wedding, the two were separated until the end of the war. They then moved to Santa Fe and lived with Don's father, famous Santa Fe artist, Will Shuster. They then moved to Los Alamos and soon thereafter to Albuquerque where husband, Don began his 42 years of service with Sandia National Laboratories. While raising four sons, she continued to work as a registered nurse both at the Veterans Administrative Hospital and later at Ridgecrest Manor. Upon her husband's death in 1989, she took over responsibility for the Will Shuster estate. Over the following years, she did much volunteer work and was a patron of the arts. Helen is survived by three sons, Tom, Paul and Mark; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don B. Shuster and her eldest son, Don. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2006, 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE. Interment of cremains will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
