CHAVEZ -- M.S. SAM CHAVEZ, age 82, of Santa Fe, passed away Monday, June 6, 2005, following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Chavez. Sam was born in Capitan, NM on February 27, 1923 the son of Fred and Juanita Chavez, who preceded him in death. He married Lucy Sanchez on June 2, 1946. He was a graduate of Capitan High School, then served with the U.S. Army during WWII. Following his discharge he returned to New Mexico where he joined the New Mexico State Police. He served with the State Police for 33 years, retiring as a Deputy Chief in 1982. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Socorro Knights of Columbus, the Socorro Lion's Club and the V.F.W. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lucy Chavez; five children: Michael G. Chavez and wife Judy N., Joseph F. Chavez Sr. and wife Elsie, Bill Chavez and wife Lorella, Cindy L. Abeyta and husband Juan, Sandra K. Armijo and husband Paul; brothers: Godfrey Chavez, Richard Chavez and wife Charlotte, Frank Chavez and wife Lorraine, Conrad Chavez and wife Sue; sisters: Josephine Chavez, Teresa Chavez, Agnes Dotson and husband Keith; sister in law, Mary Chavez; grandchildren: Dee Dee Chavez, Tony Chavez, Michael Chavez, Joseph Chavez Jr., Jason Chavez, Zachary Chavez, Rebecca Chavez, John Abeyta, Monica Chavez, Josh Abeyta; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 9, 2005, 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. COHEN -- Herbert Cohen, born December 21, 1929, passed away at a local hospital on June 6, 2005. Mr. Cohen is survived by his wife, Marcia; daughter, Nola; two sons, Craig, and Kent; brother, Richard Cohen; sister in law, Norma Klein and husband Richard; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Herbert was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and retired as a pharmacist. He will be missed by all that knew him. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Memorial Park with Rabbi Arthur Flicker, and Cantor Caitlin Bromberg officiating. GARCIA -- Carlota "Charlie" Garcia, a lifelong resident of Carnuel, NM, was born January 6, 1935. She passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 5, 2005, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, who gave her such compassionate care in her last days. Carlota is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Florenio of the family home in Carnuel; seven children, Carlos Garcia and wife Marilyn, Paul Garcia, Veronica Gutierrez and husband Felix, Theodore Garcia and wife Norene, Flori Silva, Ramona Garcia and husband John, Laura Garcia and Marty Cota; 13 grandchildren and baby Serena on the way; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Angelina Garcia, Julia Garcia, Bernadette Padilla and husband Robert; four brothers, Pablo Garcia and wife Irene, Gilbert Garcia and wife Modestita, Jerry Garcia and wife Mary and Bobby Garcia; numerous other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. Services will be held at Holy Child Parish in Carnuel, with a rosary to be recited by Eva Garcia on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 with Fr. Mark Granito, celebrant. HARRINGTON -- Vikki Lee Harrington, the beloved, kind-hearted, caring and devoted Daughter, Sister, Mother, and Grandmother, passed from this earth to her heavenly resting place on June 3, 2005. She is survived by daughter, Shauna; son, Alan; granddaughter, Payton; mother, Betty Sickler; and brothers, Butch, Buz, and Rich Sickler. Vikki's passing come as terrible shock and a saddening blow to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by each person who had known her big smile, experience her thoughtful ways, felt her comforting touch, been calmed by her kind words, or had shared in her many challenges, all of which she courageously met and many of which she successfully conquered. She can be at peace now knowing that she brought joy to many people and made such a difference in their lives. Those people and this world are much richer for having known her and her loving heart. JARAMILLO -- Genaro "Henry" Jaramillo, 67, born on April 19, 1938, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 6, 2005. He has been reunited with his loving daughter, Toni, who preceded him on June 6, 1993. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Anita; father, Arculano; brothers, Ruben, Mike, Frank, Seledonio, Adelaido, and Ramon Jaramillo. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Priscilla; sons, Mark, and Martin and wife Billie Jo and children Angie, Anthony, and Lila; daughter, Melissa Fenstermacher and children Elias and Derick; son-in-law, Joe Benbow and Toni's children, April, Sonny and Sara; brother, Paul Jaramillo and wife Betty and family; sister, Lucy Candelaria and family; sister, Placida Lovato and family; brother-in-law, Louie Cordova and wife Dolores and family; sister-in-law, Rosemary Stapleton and husband Ernest and family. Genaro was born in Sedillo, NM. Early in his career he was a cosmetologist and then joined the Albuquerque Public Schools. He retired from APS with 25 years of service in 1992. Henry loved the mountains and returned to his second home in Sedillo as often as he could. He loved his grandchildren and work but his grandchildren and gardening are how he preferred to spend his time. His bright smile will be missed at the Flea market where he sold arts and crafts merchandise for forty plus years. A Rosary will be recited at San Ysidro Catholic Church in Sedillo, NM Thursday, June 9, 2005, 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Both will be recited by Deacon Larry Carmony. JOHNSON -- Branden A. Johnson, 22, our loving son and a devoted father, died June 1, 2005. He is survived by his beautiful son, Aidin Kemp; his parents, Marlene and Kevin Griffin; his grandparents, Ann and Gordon Peck; his father, Bruce Johnson; sister, Gabriella; brother, Casey; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at New Life City, 4830 Pan American Freeway, NE. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to an educational fund for Aidin at U.S. New Mexico Federal Credit Union. He will deeply missed by all. LEISING -- Betty H. Leising, a seven year resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2005 from complications after a stroke. Betty was born in Dundee, MI in 1920, a 1 1/2 pound baby with a strong will to survive. That strength, along with determination and a love for life carried her through business school, the Great Depression, and World War II. She completed decades of employment with Bank of America. She was a devoted sister, wife, mother, and grandmother - nothing was more important than her family. Her loving influence will be felt for generations. She is survived by her sisters, Donna Klippstein of OH, Janet Taylor of MI, and Luella Rorick of MI; sons, J.F. Leising and his wife Pamela of Las Vegas, NV, and Bruce Leising and his wife Sharon of Albuquerque; and her grandchildren, Brenna and Molly Kelyn of Las Vegas, NV, and Brian and TJ of Albuquerque. LUJAN -- ADELAIDO. Mr. Adelaido Lujan, 88, a resident of Penasco, NM passed away on June 5, 2005. Mr. Lujan is survived by his children, Grace Roybal and husband, George, Mary Lujan-Garcia and husband, Ed, Albert Lujan and wife, Martha, Kenneth Lujan, Dolores Martinez and husband, Albert and Anita Romero; Julian Romero; a daughter in law, Katie Lujan; a good friend, Bobbi Atencio and family; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Lujan was preceded in death by his parents, Bonifacio and Ramoncita Lujan; his wife, Mary Lujan; sons, Isaac and Bonifacio Lujan; and a great-grandson, Patrick Barela. Mr. Lujan was a member of the Catholic Church, past member of the Penasco School Board, a member of the Penasco Water Association and a past member of the Los Hermanos. A visitation for Mr. Lujan will be Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Shrine of St. Bernadette Church, 1800 Martha NE with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Al Mc Laine. A second night Rosary will be recited by Luis Sanchez, Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Penasco, New Mexico with visitation at the church from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Campo Santo de Santa Barbara, Penasco, New Mexico. Pallbearers will be Dean Roybal, Ronald Martinez, Tim Lujan, Don Lujan, James Lujan, Harold Romero, and Mark Martinez. MONTOYA -- Mel E. Montoya raised out of the darkness of death into the light of Christ on June 1, 2005. His family, with love and gratitude, will remember dad. Mel was a lifelong resident of New Mexico with a real entrepreneurial spirit and a vision toward the future. Mel became a prominent small business owner of Valley Distributing Co. In 1945, and was involved in several business ventures through-out his years. Mel truly enjoyed fishing and hunting before he was over taken with the debilitating disease of Alzheimer's. Mel is survived by his wife, Angie; his daughters, Rosabella Dugger, Marce Chavez, both from Albuquerque, Charlene Berbig from Anchorage, AK; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four sisters; and one brother. Mel was preceded in death by his two sons, Mel Jr. and Albert; parents; and three brothers. The family would like to extend a very Special Thanks to "The Cottages" for providing a pleasant stimulating environment full of love and comfort for the past four years. NEWMAN -- Robert G. Newman of Albuquerque passed away on June 5, 2005 after a long illness. He was 88. Loving husband of Lorraine Varon Newman; beloved father of Alan and wife Brenda Newman of Salem, OR, Elaine Newman of Albuquerque, and Lin and husband Stephen Evanko of Seattle, WA; beloved grandfather of Jonathan and wife Lisa Newman of Portland, OR and Benjamin and wife Christy Newman of Eugene, OR. Resident of Albuquerque since 1953, Robert retired from Sandia Laboratory in 1982. In retirement he was active in the Palo Duro Fishing Club. Robert's diverse talents and interests reflected the philosophy given to him by his father: Never be afraid to try something new. ORTEGA -- Roberto Gabriel Ortega went home to be with our Lord, Thursday, June 2, 2005. Beloved husband, loving father and grandfather, he was the goodness and joy in our lives. WILKINS -- Jesse A. Wilkins, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, June 3, 2005. He is survived by his loving partner of over 35 years, Athelene Blackburn of Albuquerque; daughters, Eva Archer (Michael) and Millie Atkinson (Ray); son, Ron Reeves (Faye); and step-son, Jim Blackburn. Jesse had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren of whom he was very proud. Also surviving is brother, Melvin Wilkins and sister, Bonnie Blakemore. He was preceded in death by brother, Gerald Wilkins and sister, Marie Forrest. He loved to fish and was a devoted member of the Bass Bums of Albuquerque.
