ARELLANES -- Marie A. (Montoya) Arellanes. January 26, 1930 - September 11, 2004. Marie is survived by her loving husband, Joe F. Arellanes, her companion in marriage for 59 years. Joe lovingly cared for "his best friend" in her time of illness. He's our HERO! Marie is survived by 3 sons, Joseph A. Arellanes, Richard F. Arellanes and wife, Dorothy, Robert J. Arellanes and wife, JoAnn; daughters, D. Theresa Rivera, Barbara M. E. Salas and husband, Lawrence, Janice T. Pick and husband, Raymond, Donna M. Duran and husband, Julius, Jerilyn A. Arellanes (a.k.a. Anne McDonald); 22 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Charlotte Silva and husband, Felix; two brothers, Reynaldo Montoya and wife, Roberta, Ronald Montoya and life-companion, Donnie Soveranes and several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Antonio and Sofia Montoya. Just a few days prior to her death, Marie was professed in the Third Order of Carmelites receiving the name Marie Arellanes of the Holy Eucharist and St. Therese. Marie was a very devout catholic and was a member of the Blue Army and Altar Rosary Society. She was a very compassionate person who prayed for all. Marie was a very intelligent and talented artist who did many beautiful paintings in her lifetime but didn't brag about it. She was a great person in her simplicity. The family would like to thank Fr. Anthony Bolman, Fr. Johnny Lee Chavez, Fr. Fernando Rubio-Boitel, and the Deacons from Queen of Heaven Parish. We would also like to thank Dr. Dorf and all those at Albuquerque Regional Hospital who provided excellent care for her. We also thank Fr. Anthony Pick, a family member, who traveled from Iowa to celebrate the Mass. Cremation has taken place. BACA -- Helen Marie Baca, 58, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on September 11, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Michael J. Baca; daughter, Angela Romero and husband, Kevin; son, Jesse Chavez; daughter, Alice Romero and husband, Chris, all of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Michael, Vanessa, Clarissa, Anjelica, and Destiny; one great-grandchild, Michael Moody, Jr.; mother, Lucy Duran; sister, Angela Bolagh and husband, Joe; brothers-in-law, Steven Baca and wife, Gabrielle, and Paul M. C'DeBaca; sisters-in-law, Rose M. Baca, Julia A. C'DeBaca, Yolanda M. Herrera and husband, Jose and Ermalinda C'DeBaca; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Rudy Duran. She will be missed dearly by all her family and friends. CAMPOS -- Gabriel Campos Sr., 37, went home to be with the Lord on September 12, 2004. He was born on February 7, 1967 in Albuquerque, NM. He is survived by his wife, Veronica Campos; sons, Gabriel Campos Jr. and Alexander S. Campos; daughters, Yazmine M. Campos and Jacqueline F. Campos; brother, Salvador Campos Jr. and wife, Courtina; sisters, Lourdes Castillo and husband, Jose and Adelita Morales and husband, Eliseo; mother, Adelaida Campos; many nieces and nephews; and many cousins. Gabriel will be deeply missed by his loving family. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at San Jose Catholic Church. CARRILLO -- Darrell Joseph Carrillo, age 44 and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, was born December 13, 1959, and passed away Sunday, September 12, 2004. He worked for Transmart and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Darrell was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, Conrado and Concha Carrillo, Leonides and Condido Ulibarri; and nephew, Phillip Carrillo. He is survived by his father, Samuel Carrillo; his mother, Emily Carrillo; one son, Joseph Carrillo and girlfriend, Candice; one brother, John Carrillo and wife, JoAnn Garcia-Carrillo; two sisters, his twin sister, Darlene and husband, Freddie, Mary Lou Carrillo and husband, George Martinez; two grandchildren, Alexis Carrillo and Joseph Carrillo; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends who loved and will miss him. CHAVEZ -- Patricia Chavez, 94, our loving mother and grandmother, was called home by our Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 11, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Helen Pacheco, Rose Marie Chavez, and Roberta Montoya and husband, Michael; son, Richardo Chavez, Sr.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Anselmo; son, Reynaldo; infant triplet baby boys; and granddaughter, Stephanie. She was a native New Mexican and a lifetime member of San Felipe De Neri Catholic Church. Patricia participated in many different groups in her church including, Blue Army, Sacred Heart League, Altar Society and Madres Christanas. Patricia graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1933. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., at San Felipe De Neri Catholic Church, 2005 Plaza NW, Old Town, with Betty Telles, reciting. CRACKEL -- Fern L. Crackel, 79, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, went to be with her beloved Bill in the house of the Lord, Sunday, September 12, 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Lana L. Finley; and the light of her life, her grandson, Derrick W. Finley of Mooresville, NC; one sister, Mussette Trent of Tucson, AZ; one brother, Bob Carrico; nephew, Monty Carrico and wife, Lucy, all of Albuquerque; nieces, Cheryl Thompson, Sandy Tolman and husband, Frank and Darlene Harwell and husband, David. Fern gave 110 to everything she did. She was retired from Mountain Bell with 38 years of service. She loved her job and everyone who has been a part of her telephone company family. She was a member of the Charter Chapter of American Business Women's Association, Business Women's International and the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and a member of Hoffmantown Church. Fern was the author of "No Big Deal" and "I Love You Too." She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. ESTES -- Violet L. Estes, 85, originally from Seattle, WA, moving to Albuquerque in 1976, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2004. She is survived by her sons, Gerald L. Estes and wife, Kay of Spring, TX and Gary L. Estes and wife, Sandra of Lake Stevens, WA; grandchildren, Amy and husband, Shane Dunham, Bradley and Kurtis Estes. Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher on January 20, 1977; daughter, Annette Estes; sisters, Florence Brown and Ida Belle Miller; and brother, Chester Minnie. FIEDLER -- Veda R. Fiedler, 91, died peacefully on Saturday, September 11, 2004 in Albuquerque. She was born on April 21, 1913, in Colby, WI, the youngest of five children of Ida and Theodore Lueloff. As a young woman, Veda worked as a secretary and bookkeeper in Wisconsin, Indiana, and Illinois. In 1955 she married Lawrence L. Fiedler, a widower with three children. After Larry's retirement in 1975, Veda and Larry enjoyed travel and visits to family and friends around the country. Veda was preceded in death by Larry in 2000. She is survived by her three children, Nancy Eckerson and husband, Ray of Los Alamos, Martha Spring and husband, Frank of Albuquerque, and Larry Fiedler and wife, Linda of Olney, Maryland; by her two beloved grandsons, Joshua Fiedler and Frank (Austin) Spring; and by many devoted nieces, and a nephew. HALE -- William E. Hale, 88, passed away early Friday, September 10, 2004. Born in Oklahoma on July 22, 1916, "Bill" lived most of his life in New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; and sister, Bess. William E. Hale is survived by three sons, William M. "Dusty" and wife, Nan, David L. and wife, Becky, and Stephen D. and wife, Debi; five grandchildren, Eric Hale and wife, Elsie, Mindy Hale and partner, Pamela, Cassie and husband, Travis Stuart, Jenifer Hale, and Krista Hale; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, David Hale and wife, Betty of Santa Fe, and a sister, Jean and husband, Wesley Wilcox of Illinois. Bill Hale worked for the U.S. Geological Survey and traveled much during his career. After retiring he liked to stay in touch with fellow workers and to visit the work sites of his sons. HOGLAND -- Elton Ray Hogland, 66, passed from this world and found peace on September 11, 2004. He leaves behind four children; Sharon, Russ and wife, Jane, Susan and husband, Paul, Dan and wife, Gena and their mother, Mary and their five grandchildren; Chelsea, Sarah, Taylor, Hannah and Jack; brother, Doyle and wife, Lou; sisters, Betty Jean and Frances and husband, Harold, along with many nieces and nephews, as well as all those who loved him. HUNTER -- Elmer T. Hunter, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Edith E. Hunter of Albuquerque; sons, John Dale Hunter and companion, Susan Hood, James Dennis Hunter and wife, Sandra, and George David Hunter, all of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Hunter and wife, Florence of Albuquerque, and Cecil Hunter and wife, Mattie of Sun City, AZ; step-brother, Jack Beckner of Orangeville, CA; and several nieces and nephews. Elmer was an avid beekeeper, and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He retired from the Boiler Makers Union in 1980. KENNEDY -- Lorene Rose Kennedy. Our Lord Jesus came and softly carried our beloved Rene Rose Kennedy through the pearly gates into the wonderful Land Beyond with Him and all our loved ones there on Saturday, September 11, 2004. She loved the Lord Jesus who gave his life for her soul's salvation. Lorene Rose "Rene" Kennedy was born on January 20, 1923 in Oklahoma. She was a teacher, accountant and junior engineer and was a missionary in Nigeria. Mrs. Kennedy served as pastor's wife at Stanley Union Church in Stanley, NM for 10 years as well as at several other churches in Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Colquitt A. Kennedy of Albuquerque; daughter, Marilyn K. Levine of Albuquerque; sons, Dr. Criswell A. Kennedy and wife, Shirley of Spokane, WA and John D. Kennedy and wife, Kay of Albuquerque; six grandchildren, one of whom preceded her in death; sister, Dorothy L. MARTIN -- Niki Martin, 46, a resident of Placitas for the last 12 years, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2004. Niki was born November 21, 1957 in Chicago, IL. She was a retired Attorney. She was a member of Southwest Writers Association and enjoyed scuba diving. Niki is survived by her loving husband, Greg Krenik; her parents, Jerry and Sharon Martin of Arizona; two brothers, Loren and Ira Martin; father- and mother-in-law, Jim and Dee Krenik of Minnesota; and sister-in-law, Mary Jo. MCGOVERN -- Norbert McGovern, 79, a resident of Los Lunas, NM for two years, passed away at sunrise on September 12, 2004. Bert was an avid follower of politics and was very active in the Democratic Party. He ran for the U. S. Senate in 1972 at the same time that George McGovern was running for President. He was a member of Grace Fellowship Church. Bert will be remembered for his love of politics, dancing, and poetry. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marjorie; two daughters, Mary Garcia and husband, Andy, of Los Lunas and Kimberly McGovern of Hawaii; two sisters, Marcia Rotello and Loretta McDermott; four granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. RATLIFF -- Jacqueline Herndon Ratliff, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 11, 2004. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joe B. Ratliff; her daughter, Beverly Williams and husband, Charles of Albuquerque; her son, Gerald and wife, Becky also of Albuquerque; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Jackie was born on July 8, 1927 in Santa Rosa, NM to Chisolm and Lucille Herndon. It was there, in a malt shop, that she met Joe. They began their life together on December 14, 1945. They lived in Los Alamos, NM for about five years before relocating to Albuquerque. Jackie worked as an administrative assistant for AAA until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling, painting, crocheting, sewing and baking with her grandchildren. Jackie was warm and good and kind. She is now complete in the Lord and certainly smiling for those mourning, for she knows that we do not grieve as those who have no hope, (1 Thessalonians 4:13). VALENCIA -- Randy A. Murphy Valencia. On September 8, 2004, our Heavenly Father called Randy A. Murphy Valencia, born February 2, 1973, age 31, to paradise. Randy was born and raised in Albuquerque. He attended Queen of Heaven, Sandia High School, and recently the Art Institute. Randy loved his basketball (the Lakers) and played soccer. He loved to take his shiny car and blaring Bass from house to house visiting his family and friends. He is survived by two daughters, Tarah Valencia ,11, and Angelina Valencia, 8; his wife, Celia Valencia and her family; his mother, Belinda Valencia; father, C.R. Murphy and his family; his half-sister, Elaine, husband Pete Cockroft and their family; his grandmother, Sarah Valencia; his uncle and godfather, Del Valencia and Susan Babb; his godmother, Roselie Castillo; his uncle, Leo; his aunt, Anna and uncle, Dan Heavner; his aunt, Suzie and uncle, Ric Salter; his cousins, Antoinette Valencia, Mark and Jenny Valencia, Jeremy Heavner, and Alicia Salter; and many loving relatives from Albuquerque, Chama, Durango, and Espanola; his best friends, John and Andrea Benavidez and their family; as well as his friend, Scott Headrick and his family. Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at Queen of Heaven Church. Mass will be held at Queen of Heaven Church on Wednesday, September 15, at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Gates of Heaven on Paseo Del Norte and Wyoming. Reception at 4:00 p.m. will be held at the American Legion Post 99 on Louisiana. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Tarah Valencia and/or Angelina Valencia at Wells Fargo Bank.

VIGIL -- Carmelita Vigil, 92, died Sunday, September 12, 2004. She was a resident of Albuquerque for 57 years, moving here in 1947. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ignacita Ortega of Colorado; as well as her sister, Esther Marie Ortega; and her brother, Manual Ortega, both of Colorado. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa (Vigil) Clary; and granddaughter, Jeanette Clary, both of Colorado. She is survived by her son, Pete Vigil and wife, Mary Beth of Albuquerque; sisters, Sally Martinez of Colorado and Mary Helen Poptanich of Atwater, CA; her brothers, Frank Ortega and wife, Rose of Albuquerque and Joe Ortega and wife, Lucy of Colorado; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, three great-great Grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, and friends. She is a member of the Church of the Risen Savior Catholic Community. Pallbearers are Charles Atencio, Lawrence Clary, Travis Clary, Robert Martinez, and Bill O'Neill. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, September 15, 2004, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 16, 2004, 10:00 a.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. WINCHELL -- Ruth Juanita (Eikenberry) Winchell, 66, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2004. She battled scleroderma for several years but could suffer no longer and is now at peace. She always looked for the joy in life and left a lasting impression on those who came in contact with her and her contagious laugh and beautiful smile. She is preceded in death by her husband, James R. Winchell in 2002; her father, Ralph Eikenberry and mother, Ethel Eikenberry. Ruth is survived by her brother, Daniel Eikenberry of Las Vegas, NV; sisters, Patricia Fillmore of Albuquerque and Judith Cone of Galva, IL; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Betty Newville and the staff at Sandia Kindred Hospital for their excellent, tender care of our sister.
