CANDELARIA -- Lillian S. Candelaria, 80, went home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2004. She was born April 20, 1924 in Mountainair, New Mexico. Mrs. Candelaria passed away after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Higinio Candelaria; her daughter, Conice Chavez and husband Julian; her sons, Bernardino Candelaria and wife Flora, Solano Candelaria and Salomon Candelaria; one brother, Ofimiano Smith and wife Marylou; seven grandchildren, Frank, Lorie, Gina, Danny, Arlene and Amanda; four great great grandchildren, Mariah, D'Andra, Heaven and Reyes and many nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at San Antonito Church in San Antonito, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. also at San Antonito Church. Burial will follow at the San Antonito Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank Sanchez, Danny Candelaria, Benny Romero, Ben Baldwin, Petronillo Jaramillo and Magdaleno Garcia. Lillian will be deeply missed by her loving family. ESPINOSA -- Gilbert Joe-With our deepest regret and sorrow we announce the passing of Gilbert Joe Espinosa. He passed away on September 1, 2004 at home in Clayton, CA with his beloved family by his side. Gilbert, 57, was a kind, gentle man who always saw the good in others and had kind words for everyone. His loving nature created the tight bond found within his family. Gilbert was born in Vaughn, NM and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1969. Gilbert served 7 years during the Vietnam War in the New Mexico and Colorado National Guards. Gilbert's love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing lead him to the Forest Service where he worked for 35 years. He began as an accountant on the Carson National Forest in New Mexico and served on several other forests in New Mexico and Arizona, as well as serving in Albuquerque, Denver, Washington, D.C., Ogden and San Francisco. Prior to his retirement, Gilbert was the Deputy Regional Forester of Operations for California. He was highly regarded throughout the Forest Service for his sound judgment, helpful nature, and sensitivity to other peoples needs. Gilbert met his devoted wife Patty of 30 years, while both were on assignment to contain a forest fire on the Lincoln National Forest. Gilbert is survived by his wife Patricia J. Espinosa of Clayton and two children, Brian J. Espinosa and Christina M. Espinosa, also of Clayton. Gilbert is the 7th of 13 children; nine brothers and sisters of Juan and Adela Espinosa and two brothers and one sister of Juan and Cleo Espinosa. Gilbert is survived by brothers and sisters; Pete Espinosa, of San Antonio, TX, Anita Perea and Ernest Espinosa of Santa Fe, NM, Eddie Espinosa of Ruidoso, NM, Francis Sisneros of Claypool, IN, Juan Espinosa of Rio Rancho, NM, Paul Espinosa of Roswell, NM, and Raymie Hernandez and Eliseo Espinosa of Albuquerque, NM. Gilbert was preceded in death by sisters Irene Griego and Elizabeth Espinosa. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 8th at 2:00 pm at San Pablo Reservoir. GARCIA -- Seledonio (Sal) passed away Monday morning August 30, 2004. He is survived by one beloved brother and family Louie Garcia and wife Merlinda Garcia. He also had two nieces, Theresa Garcia and Carol Garcia; one nephew, Ivan Montoya and wife Annabelle Montoya; great nieces and great nephews, Debbie Montoya, daughter Mercedes and son Robert, Jr. Also, Brenda Montoya, Cordero Montoya Ivan, Jr. Montoya, father of Ashley and Amanda, Mary Baldonado, husband of Carlos Baldonado son Jonah, Jude and daughter Jade, Tammara Garcia, Tommy Garcia, daughter Kaitlynn. Sal was a veteran in World War II. In WW II he was in combat and received the Purple Heart and was an active member of the D.A.V. and other legions and enjoy all his beautiful cars. He took special care of cars and they were his pride and enjoy. God Bless you and we will miss you and you will be in our hearts. You are in good hands right now. GRAY -- Edith Gray, age 92, of Albuquerque, died at a local hospital Thursday, September 2, 2004. She was born December 14, 1911 in Texas, the daughter of Bud and Iva (Williams) Queen. Edith attended Faith Chapel. She is survived by 7 daughters: Marie Roark and Bessie Simmons of Albuquerque, NM; Maxine Cox of Denver, CO; Ruby Barnett and her husband Luther of Belen, NM; Esther Burrows of Corrales, NM; Dollie Richardson and her husband Jim & Opal Mitchell of Corpus Christi, TX. Edith is also survived by 26 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held 5-7 PM, Monday in Palm Chapel at Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Graveside Service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Fairview Memorial Park, Rev. Tom Salmon officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave. SE 842-8800

PARGAS -- RAFAEL-Rafael Pargas,19, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 3, 2004. Mr. Pargas is survived by his loving parents, Rafael and Evangeline Pargas; one sister, Linda McNeil and husband, Ben; one brother, Ernesto "Tonito" Pargas; grandparents, Ernest and Victoria Armijo, and Ralph and Adela Pargas; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A Visitation for Rafael will be Monday evening from 6:30pm until 7:00pm at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal Rd. SW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm by AJ San Francesco. Final visitation for Rafael will be Tuesday morning from 9:30am until 10:00am at St. Anne Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00am by Father Daniel Balizan. Interment will take place on Wednesday morning at 10:00am at Pajarito Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tonito Pargas, Johnny Keddy, Ernie Armijo, Jeremy Armijo, Ricky Pargas, and Tessie Harrison. ROSS -- Clay M. Ross, 90, born Monday, September 29, 1913 in Monticello, AR, died Monday, August 30, 2004 at his home in Albuquerque, NM surrounded by his family. Clay was the third of five children of Walker Clay and Ethel Thomas Ross. After graduation from the University of Arkansas in 1937, he received a Masters Degree from the University of Virginia in 1939. Clay proudly served in the United States Navy during WW II aboard the battleship USS North Carolina, participating in eleven major Pacific Campaigns. He was recalled to Washington, DC during the Korean War and left the service in 1956 as a Commander. Clay was instrumental in creating the Naval Reserve in Oklahoma City, OK. After 30 years of services in various locations and positions, Clay retired from Sears Roebuck and Company as Group Manager, Kansas City in 1977. Returning to Albuquerque with his wife, Kathryn "Kit", Clay joined the staff of Berger Briggs where he worked until has passing. >From early childhood he was an active and dedicated member of several Presbyterian Churches, serving as both Deacon and Elder. In addition to his extensive church work, Clay was a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, A Rotarian "Fellow", a member of the Albuquerque Country Club and was associated with numerous other Organization and Boards. Clay is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Kathryn "Kit"; daughters Amy McGhie Ross of Albuquerque and Gretchen Ross Odum and husband, Marvin Odum, of Houston, TX; grandchildren Debbie Odum Hutchinson and husband, Joe, of College Station, TX, Marvin Odum III and wife, Mariloli, of London, England, Brian Odum and wife, Suzanne, and Marcus Odum and wife, Michelle, all of Houston, TX; seven great grandchildren, Lauren, Marvin IV, Taylor, Alexandra, Madison, Hayes and Morgan; brother Lamar Ross and wife, Erma, of Monticello AR; sister Helen Stuckey of Monticello, AR; brother, William Fay Ross and wife, Joy, of Okalahoma City, OK; sister-in-law Lexie Triesch of Long Beach, CA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Clay was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mairee Staggs of Beebe, AR. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Monday, September 6, 2004 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE in Albuquerque. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 7, 2004, in the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, Albuquerque, NM. Honored to serve as active pallbearers are Clay's grandsons, Marvin Odum III, Brian Odum and Marcus Odum; his brother, William Fay Ross and close friends Albert Arrigoni and Richard Bluestein. VANDERGRIFF -- Loretta I. Vandergriff, 77, a 45-year resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, August 30, 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Aaronette Kutny of Albuquerque; son, Jesse Vandergriff, Jr, and wife, Cheryl; grandsons, Mark Kutny and wife, Nicole Bourget, Matthew Kutny and wife Diane Fiddler Kutny, Christopher Scott Vandergriff, and Joshua Ryan Vandergriff; granddaughter, Jaimie Leanne Vandergriff; and sisters, Arletta, Margret Alice, Marietta, and Kathleen of Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Flora Mae Keith Polk, father, Ralph Bingle Polk, brothers, Keith and Eugene, sisters, Sybil and Polly; and daughter Jeanetta Vandergriff.
