Gilbert Joe-With our deepest regret and sorrow we announce the passing of Gilbert Joe Espinosa. He passed away on September 1, 2004 at home in Clayton, CA with his beloved family by his side. Gilbert, 57, was a kind, gentle man who always saw the good in others and had kind words for everyone. His loving nature created the tight bond found within his family. Gilbert was born in Vaughn, NM and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1969. Gilbert served 7 years during the Vietnam War in the New Mexico and Colorado National Guards. Gilbert's love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing lead him to the Forest Service where he worked for 35 years. He began as an accountant on the Carson National Forest in New Mexico and served on several other forests in New Mexico and Arizona, as well as serving in Albuquerque, Denver, Washington, D.C., Ogden and San Francisco. Prior to his retirement, Gilbert was the Deputy Regional Forester of Operations for California. He was highly regarded throughout the Forest Service for his sound judgment, helpful nature, and sensitivity to other peoples needs. Gilbert met his devoted wife Patty of 30 years, while both were on assignment to contain a forest fire on the Lincoln National Forest. Gilbert is survived by his wife Patricia J. Espinosa of Clayton and two children, Brian J. Espinosa and Christina M. Espinosa, also of Clayton. Gilbert is the 7th of 13 children; nine brothers and sisters of Juan and Adela Espinosa and two brothers and one sister of Juan and Cleo Espinosa. Gilbert is survived by brothers and sisters; Pete Espinosa, of San Antonio, TX, Anita Perea and Ernest Espinosa of Santa Fe, NM, Eddie Espinosa of Ruidoso, NM, Francis Sisneros of Claypool, IN, Juan Espinosa of Rio Rancho, NM, Paul Espinosa of Roswell, NM, and Raymie Hernandez and Eliseo Espinosa of Albuquerque, NM. Gilbert was preceded in death by sisters Irene Griego and Elizabeth Espinosa. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 8th at 2:00 pm at San Pablo Reservoir.
