GARCIA -- Ernestina "Tina" Garcia: A Woman for All Seasons While she was a wife, businesswoman, politician, and community volunteer, she was most proud of being a mother and grandmother. Tina Garcia was born on November 7, 1933 and was married to Raymond Garcia until he passed away in 1998. Although cooking was her joy, politics was her passion. She loved a good hard fought campaign. She was very active in the Democratic Party and was involved in many local campaigns. What she loved about campaigning was meeting so many interesting people and being welcomed into their homes. She devoted many hours to her business, Ray's Print Shop which she owned for over 40 years. Printing enabled her to express her creativity and to make many friends. In addition to being a printer, she was a tailor and a stream stress. When she retired she replaced her job with being a full-time volunteer at Cornucopia, a day care center for disabled adults. She loved the staffed and was deeply touched by the participants. Since her death, many people have called to tell us how much our mother meant to them. Many have said they considered her a role model and mentor. Tina was respected as an advocate for those less fortunate and for the residents of the South Valley. I don't know many people who had as many friends as our mother. People who met her especially loved her refreshing honesty and vitality. She loved her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her five children: Mary Lou Czerner, Jerry Garcia, Sylvia Garcia, Matilda Garcia and Ray Garcia, Jr.; eleven grandchildren, and two great-grand children. Mom always said that living is about making special memories. She is leaving all of us with many wonderful memories. She will be deeply missed not only by her children and grandchildren but by many hundreds of friends that she made and kept during her lifetime. A Memorial Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Eighth Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Refreshments will be served after the rosary in the Celebration of Life Room also at Garcia Mortuary.
