RAGAN -- Tunis Russell Ragan, Sr., 73, of Bristol, Tennessee, died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bristol, a son of the late John J. and Amanda Pickle Ragan. He was a graduate of Holston Valley High School, where he played on the basketball team, and was a U.S. Army Medical Corps Veteran of the Korean War. He was associated with J.C. Penny Company in Bristol and was transferred to Chattanooga in 1958. He owned and managed Ragan's Chevron Service Station on Signal Mountain, moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1991 and returned to live in Bristol in 2002. He was a member of Paperville United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Reba Ruth Rather Ragan; a son, Tunis Russell Ragan, Jr. and his wife Diedra of Albuquerque; two grandsons, Justin Ragan of Los Angeles, California, and Matthew Ragan of Albuquerque; two sisters, Ann Peters of Parksley, Virginia, and Rosa Lee Bowers of Bloxon, Virginia; a brother, Victor Ragan of Bristol; his aunt, Bea Fleenor of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 Monday evening, July 19, 2004, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with the service to follow at 8 o'clock. Rev. James Oxendine will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Paperville United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Mrs. Shelby Buskell, Treasurer, 1208 Old Jonesboro Road, Bristol, Tennessee, 37620.
