Jourdan -- Ellen Ann Chisholm Jourdan passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2001 in Lubbock, TX after a long illness. Ann was born on March 28, 1924, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her parents, deceased, were Russell A. Chisholm and Frances B. Kervin, both from Bradford, Pennsylvania. Her father was in the oil business and the family moved several times before settling in Pampa, Texas. Ann was the eldest of six children. They are Jean Martin, deceased, Colleen Bush, Tom Chisholm, Sheila Hood, and Kevin Chisholm. Ann graduated from Pampa High School and matriculated to the University of New Mexico. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and graduated in 1944 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. While at the University she met her future husband, William A. "Bill" Jourdan. Part of their family lore is that Ann was a Sun Bowl Princess and Bill was the quarterback for the Lobos when the University played in the 1943 Sun Bowl Tournament. After graduation, Ann worked for Braniff Air Lines in Amarillo and Houston. Bill joined the Navy and upon his return after the war they married on September 8, 1948, in Pampa, Texas. Bill was a civil engineer with El Paso Natural Gas and they lived in Kermit and El Paso, Texas, and in Farmington, before settling in Hobbs, where he founded W.A. Jourdan Construction and Chaparral Builders. The son, John is now currently president. Both father and son have served as president of A.G.C., Associated General Contractors of New Mexico. They have lived in Hobbs for the last 50 years, where they raised their seven children. The family has been active in St. Helena Catholic Church. All the children attended St. Helena Catholic School and Hobbs High School, and all graduated from the University of New Mexico. Incidentally, all six girls were members of their mother's sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. In keeping with Ann's loyal support of the University, she was appointed by the governor to the school's Board of Regents in 1974. She served 12 years, retiring in 1986. During those years, she championed the UNM cause in southeastern New Mexico. She was a strong advocate for handicapped access on campus, the Children's Psychiatric Hospital, and the University's Presidential Scholarship program. She was characterized during her tenure as the cool-headed regent who would vote her conscience. Aside from her accomplishments as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, Ann was most proud of her time as a regent. Ann and Bill would have been married 53 years this September. Bill gives her full credit for the raising of a strong Christian family. Their children in birth order are as follows: Jean Ann DeLayo, her husband, Leonard, and their two children, Francesca and David, live in Albuquerque, Mary DeWalt, her husband, Bill, and their three children, Wylie, Drew, and Evan, live in Waco, Texas, Patty Heiman and her husband, David, live in Albuquerque, their two children are Shannon and Todd, both living in Dallas, Nancy Walthall and her husband, Mike, live in Sacramento, California, Jane Algermissen, her husband, Bob, and their son, Andrew, live in Montgomery, Alabama. John and his wife, Mary, live with their three children, William, Maria, and Jane, in Hobbs, the youngest, Eileen Beaumont lives with her husband, Bill, and their three children, Will, Russell, and Jourdan, in Albuquerque. Ann will be remembered as a woman of character and strong faith -- virtues that will sustain her family in her absence. Ann persevered these past few years through ill health, never complaining. She continued to the end as an active support in her children's lives and took great joy in their families and their accomplishments. She and Bill were great loves and great friends. Ann left lasting impressions on all those who knew her. She will be remembered as compassionately uncompromising, a strength that all drew from her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a classic style. She will be dearly missed. A Rosary was held on Monday, August 13, and Mass was held on Tuesday, August 14, 2001. Memorials may be sent to: St. Helena Catholic School, 105 East St. Anne St., Hobbs, NM 88240 or St. Helena Church Building Fund, 100 East Bender Blvd., Hobbs, NM 88240

Kuester -- Mary Beth Schwark Kuester passed away on August 16, 2001 at her home in Rio Rancho after a long battle with cancer. Mary Beth was born on January 2, 1954 to Martin and Adelaide Schulte Schwark in Mt. Clemens, MI. Mary Beth was so sweet, so cheerful and earnest with everyone she knew, yet she had a passion for life burning inside her and the blessing of an artist's eye. Her paintings were filled with life and the brilliant light of the southwest. Consumed by her painting and attending diligently to her family, she was well on her way to national recognition as a painter. Then in 1993, the shocking diagnosis of breast cancer fell suddenly into her life. The past eight years have been a monumental struggle to balance a life of creative and family productivity with many, many therapies of promise to stave off the growing threat and these eight years contain a testament of her courage, dignity and faithfulness to God throughout. As Scriptures say, "here in the earth you shall have tribulation," and our dearest Mary Beth endured that long hard tribulation with a smile for others and hope in her heart. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Mary Beth was preceded in death by her mother, Adelaide Schwark. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Kuester of Rio Rancho; her precious daughter, Aimee Kuester of Albuquerque; her father, Martin Schwark of Ft. Myers, FL; sisters, Sr. Joel Marie of NY, Monica Starkey of AZ, Amy Jo Dudley of FL; brothers, Greg Schwark of MI, Geoffrey Schwark of AK, Jerome Schwark of PA, and Joel Schwark of MI. Miller -- Patricia A (DoBell) Miller. March 17, 1935 - July 7, 2001. In His great love, the Lord tenderly took Pat to be with him to live joyously forever in His kingdom in heaven. We will miss her strong and giving spirit. Pat was an avid reader and lover of art and music. Pat enjoyed collecting miniatures and relished her morning crossword puzzles, coaxing those near her to wrack their brains for the hard to answer clue! She loved to read in bed while savoring a popsicle or her favorite cinnamon sucker! Pat's daughter, Linda, recalled reading in her Mom's baby book Pat's Mother, Elizabeth, wrote "Pat would rather play with live dogs than with her dolls." This was so true as Pat dearly loved the family dogs, Jazzie, Leo, and Moe. She took good care of them and they rewarded her with love and devotion. Pat was a native of Albuquerque, attending St. Mary's, Jefferson Jr. High and graduating from Highland High School. She worked at Korber's Hardware as a teenager. Her most recent jobs were at TransAmerica Insurance and Keenan and Associates where she made many friends, especially her dear friend Sally Ritts who drove Pat to and from work and visited Pat with her sunny smile and disposition after Pat's health forced her to retire. Pat was preceded in death by her father, William E. DoBell, who died when she was a teenager; and her mother, Elizabeth DoBell Reynolds who passed away two years ago; she was also preceded in death by her brother, William DoBell, Jr.; stepfather, John Reynolds; and stepbrothers, John, Mark, and Jeff. She is survived by her beloved children, Linda Miller of California, and Wade C. Miller of Albuquerque; her sisters, Rose Mary and husband, Tom Martin, Toni and husband, Keith Niggel, Betty and husband, Richard Heise; her brother, Steve DoBell and wife, JoAnne Carlson of Seattle; stepsisters, Pat and husband, Ron Archibeck, Barbara Tyble, and Celinda and her husband, Harold Kaelin; and stepbrothers, Tim Reynolds and wife, Sarah, Rod Reynolds and wife, Elizabeth, and James Reynolds. She also leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Pat requested no formal services. She wished to be cremated and have her remains quietly spread. Her wishes were accomplished with a prayer of thanksgiving for the Loving Father who loaned her to us so she could love us and we could love her for the precious years we had together.
