Chavez -- Samuel Chavez, Sr., 91, a resident of Albuquerque passed away Sunday, August 20, 2000. Mr. Chavez was born in San Marcial, NM. He was employed by the Santa Fe Rail Road, where he retired after 31 years. Mr. Chavez is survived by his wife of 68 years, Conception (Connie) Chavez; one son, Samuel Chavez Jr. and wife, Frances; four daughters, Selfita McCollum and husband, Jack of Las Vegas, NV, Albita Bruno of Gardena, CA, Sally Sanchez and Lorraine Chavez, both of Albuquerque; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. Visitations will be today from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary, located on 8th and Iron, where a Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. Final viewing will be Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. also in the chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Fr. James Moore as celebrant. Gonzales -- Raymond Gonzales a resident of Corrales N.M. passed away after a short Illness surrounded by his loving wife Bernadine & family on Aug. 17, 2000. Born in Gamerco, NM on Sept. 5, 1932. He was preceded in death by a son Nicholas; his parents, Jose & Brijida Gonzales; a sister, Mary Romero; a brother, Tony Franco. Raymond is survived by his wife, Bernadine Gonzales; stepsons, Mark and wife Tina, Matthew, Gary Chavez all of Albuquerque, John and wife, Marcia Chavez of Corrales; stepdaughters, Bernadette and Mark Lingford of Albuquerque Madeline and husband, Herman Duran of Rio Rancho. His sons, Edward, David and wife, Genevieve, Danny and wife, Norma Gonzales of Gallup; One daughter, Patricia and husband, Nashi of Florida. Ten Grandchildren; nine step grandchildren including a special granddaughter, Bernadine Chavez. He is also survived by stepsons, Mickael & Robert Sekiya and Stepdaughters, Rachel Mondragon and Charlene Sekaya. He is also survived by his sisters, Carmen Franco, Jessie Cota both of Calif. Aurora Espinosa, Ermina Santiago, Loretta Torres all of Gallup, NM, Lupe Mernell and husband, Bill of Arizona; brothers, Pete Franco of Utah, Ruben Gonzales of Gallup. Also surviving are Brothers-in-law, Robert and wife, Della, Patricio and wife, Susan, David and wife, Viola Chavez, and Roland Soto; Sisters-in-law, Precilla Torres, and Bessie Chavez all of Albuquerque, also many, many nieces, nephews and friends. Raymond retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs after 30 years, also from the City of Albuquerque, Public Works Division. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Iowa, and was a member of the American Legion post 69 in Alameda. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alameda Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Gallup. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park in Gallup, with a reception following at the church hall. Honorary pallbearers will be his stepsons, Mark, Matthew, Gary and John Chavez, also stepsons, Michael and Robert Sekiya and Grandsons Rodney and David Chavez. Hall -- Paula Ann Hall, age 58, died suddenly at St. Joseph Hospital on Sunday, August 21, 2000. She was born March 1, 1942 in West Park, Connecticut to Paul and Lucy Lenore, who currently reside in Belen, NM. Paula is also survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Wallace Hall; four sons and their families, Wally Jr. of Massachusetts, Keith of Connecticut, Wayne of Belen, NM and Scott of Texas; two nieces and one nephew of California; and she adored her nine surviving grandchildren. She was a master teacher who poured her life into her first and second grade students for twenty years. She has taught at Rio Grande Elementary and was currently teaching at La Merced Elementary. Paula was very active in the First Baptist Church of Belen where she faithfully served as greeter and Wednesday night meal coordinator. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at the First Baptist Church of Belen. A Memorial Service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2000 also at the First Baptist Church of Belen, with burial following at Terrace Grove Cemetery. Halliburton -- Leo (DEAN) Halliburton, 70, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2000. He was born in Dexter, New Mexico and spent most of his youth and young adult life in Hobbs, New Mexico. He lived with his wife and children in the Gallup and Thoreau area before moving and retiring from the Enron Corporation (Transwestern Pipeline) in Belen. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane and five children, Deana Bates of Abilene, TX, Richard and Roselyn Halliburton of Hobbs, NM, Gary and Cheryl Halliburton of Aztec, NM, Robert and Michelle Stearns of Gallup, NM, and Stephanie and Edward Baca of Albuquerque. He was also blessed with eight grandchildren, Carey Boozer and Jennifer Bontke, Brian, Valerie and Suzanne Halliburton, Aaron Halliburton, Wade and Clay Stearns. Memorial Services will be held at Tierra Del Sol Country Club, 1000 Golf Course Rd, Belen, NM at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2000. Cremation has taken place. Johnson -- Billy Johnson, 81, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, August 19, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Theola of the family home; 4 sons, Robert Andrew Johnson, Nicholas Kimber Johnson, James Michael Johnson, William Blakely Johnson and wife, Lynette all of Albuquerque; 8 grandchildren, Sam, Brian, Carolyn, Branden, Calan, Patrick, Denton and Chad; 4 great- grandchildren; sister, Virginia Hutchins and husband, Burnie of Lubbock, TX; and niece, Geri Hutchins of Lubbock, TX. Mr. Johnson was born August 10, 1919 in Commerce, TX. He married Theola Bertram in January 1942. He was a veteran of WWII where he served as a Captain in the US Army. He then went to Texas Tech where he graduated with a degree in Engineering. He started his career with Southwestern Public Service; then moved to Albuquerque in 1957. Here, he worked at the Sandia National Laboratory until his retirement in 1988. After retirement, Mr. Johnson was active in local community affairs and politics. Services will be held Thursday, August 24, 2000, 10:30 am, at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE., with Pastor Russell Lee officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Louisa; three daughters, Corrine Lopez, Jennie Martinez and husband, Rudy, and Dorothy Gabaldon and husband, Richard; six grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchildren. Knudson -- Daryl E. Knudson, 77, of Sioux City, Iowa, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at a Sioux City hospital. Mr. Knudson was born November 25, 1922 in Bloomfield, Nebraska. He was a longtime resident of Albuquerque and Corrales, having moved here in 1956. He retired from State Farm Auto Claims in Albuquerque in 1985. In 1987, he returned to Iowa and settled in Sioux City. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; daughter, Carol Wilmesherr; brothers, Domar, Eldon and Marvin; sister, Velda; two grandchildren, Richard Wilmesherr Jr. and Beverly Pratt; two great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, John Pinkham. Services were held in Sioux City on Saturday, August 19, 2000 and burial was at Memorial Park in Sioux City.

Lewis -- Marjorie M. Lewis, 77, a resident of Belen, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2000. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. Marjorie was born on April 30, 1923 in Newton, Iowa. She married her husband, Vernon on January 10, 1959 and they moved to Albuquerque that year. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milo Wood and Yvetta Mortice; and one brother, Garold Wood. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Vernon D. Lewis of the family home in Belen; her daughter, Terri Lock of Tome, NM; her grandchildren, who were the lights of her eyes, Gregory and Stephanie Lock of Tome, NM; one sister, Wilma Wheeler and her husband, Harold of Newton, IA. Dear Mom, I love you so very much. You were always there when I needed you. There will never be a day that goes by that I won't think of you and say I love you, Mom. I always knew I had the most loving parents around. When I was little and would get a cold, you would stay up all night with me so that I would feel better. As a grandmother, you almost always spoiled my kids too much. When they were little and we would go to the store, you always bought them something that they usually never needed, just wanted. Love always and forever, Terri. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2000, 2:00 p.m., at Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen, NM.

Lucero -- Mr. Thomas Lucero died Saturday in Albuquerque at the age of 78. Mr. Lucero is survived by his daughters, Teresa Demmon and husband, John of Albuquerque and Annette Schlegel of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Arthur and Christopher Schlegel and Brian D. Le Sage; four great-grandchildren; and one sister. Luikens -- Bryan Paul, a resident of Midland Texas, entered God's presence on August 17, 2000. He died from complications after a gall bladder operation at Albuquerque's University Hospital. Bryan was born in Albuquerque on December 17, 1957. He attended Del Norte High School and was a member of theť1975 State Football Championship team. Bryan studied Civil Engineering at NMSU, where he met and married Debbie Bales from Carlsbad, NM. They moved to Midland in 1982, where Bryan worked for John West Engineering. Bryan was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in 1995, but was able to work until 1999. Bryan was a fighter and wanted quality in his life so opted to chance a gall bladder operation so he could enjoy green chili and other good food. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Whitney; sons, Zane and Zachary; his parents, Bob and Betty Luikens; brother, Jerry Luikens and wife, Carol; brother, Jim, wife, Sheri, and their family, Andy, Jamie and Danny; former sister-in-law, Mary Luikens Roberts; father-in-law, Wilson Bales; mother-in-law, Bobbe Bales; sister-in-law, Laurie and husband, Michael Goff, and family, Tyler and Preston; sister-in-law, Linda and husband, Matt Watson, and family, Skylar, Berklee and Bradley; brother-in-law, Garry Bales; uncles, Milton and wife, Lillie Mae Luikens and Harold Hartenhoff; cousins, Bob and wife, Gayle Luikens, who helped Bryan when he attended ALS Clinics in Houston; Tommy and wife, Barbara Luikens; Richard Luikens; Cheryl and husband, Dave Meyer; Nancy and husband, John Bixler; Lynn and wife, Lisa Hartenhoff; and Lori Hartenhoff; and many many friends. Bryan was a loving husband and father who thoroughly enjoyed his family, friends and the great outdoors. Pena -- Jesusita (Susie) Page Armjio Pena, born to Alejandro Armijo and Juanita Page, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Susie went to her Lord and Savior, Friday, August 18. She was surrounded by those who loved her, daughter, Clara, who cared for her for 13 years; sons, Raymond Jr., John, Tony and Charlie, who loved her with all their hearts and souls. Susie was born on June 21, 1921 in Armijo, a centuries-old community in the South Valley that was settled by her ancestors. She lived on property that has been in the family since the late 16th century. Susie was loved by all that knew her, from child to adult. Susie was a community activist. She stood for what was right, and many times she stood alone. She was a direct descendent of the Atrisco Land Grant. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Mares Pena; her loving daughter, Clara Pena; four sons, Raymond Pena Jr. and wife, Jeannine, John and wife, Betty, Anthony (Tony), Charlie and wife, Lorrie; and an adopted daughter, Patsy Chavez and her family, Phillip, Randy and Valerie. She has grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her loving dog named Ebony. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Sage Ward). Piro -- Antonio (Tony) Piro, a lifelong resident of Los Lunas went gently into the arms of his Lord and Savior on August 18, 2000. He was born on January 17, 1935, to Eliseo and Maria Piro. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcella Garcia Piro, his second wife, Vicky Sanchez Piro, his daughter, Mary Helen Piro, brother, Faustino Piro and sister, Stella Piro. He will be missed by his loving companion, Erlinda Gonzales; his daughter, Dorothy Griego and husband, Joe, his daughter, Susan Berg and husband, Bryan, and his son, Anthony Piro. He is also survived by his sisters, Dolores Montoya, her companion, Joe Vaisa, Marcella Piro, her companion, Jose Mendez, Juana Balidoy; his brothers, Cristobal Piro and wife, Louisa, Felimon Piro and wife, Kathy; his grandchildren, Steve, Triana, Troy, Jeremy, David, Robert, Marcella, Carlos and Armando. Sanchez -- Daniel E. Sanchez, age 72, went to be with the Lord on August 20, 2000. He was a resident of Albuquerque, NM. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Sandoval -- Carmelita R. Sandoval, 85, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2000. Ms. Sandoval is survived by her daughter, Lucy Lopez and husband, Clemente of Rio Rancho; son, Allen D. Tanner and wife, Daina, Albuquerque, Thomas Tanner and wife, Diana, Albuquerque, Mark Tanner and wife, Mandana, Los Angeles, CA; daughters, Loretta Sandoval and husband, Edward, Albuquerque, Virginia Castillo and husband, Tony, Los Alamos, Eileen Hovsepian and husband, Joseph, Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Danette Tanner, Tanya Griego and husband, Roman, Paul Tanner, Christina Sandoval, Chessa Castillo, Jacob Castillo, Benjamin Castillo, Adam Castillo, Aaron Tanner, Amity Tanner, Marcel Hovsepian, Andre Hovsepian, Dominic Hovsepian, Cameron Hovsepian; great-grandchildren, Alec Griego and Carley Griego; brother, Buster Tanner and wife, Cecile; sister, Liza Cooke, South Carolina; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sally A. Tanner. Mr. Tanner was a Veteran of World War II and a lifettime member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 412. He had been a member of Queen of Heaven Church since 1953. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at 5:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE and will be followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2000 at Queen of Heaven Church, Father Johnny Lee officiating. Pallbearers are Edward Sandoval, Tony Castillo, Joseph Hovsepian, Paul Froonjiian, Benjamin Castillo and Robert Davis. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Alzheimer's Research Association or the Anna Kaseman Hospice. Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
