Akin -- Philmore Donald (Don) Akin, age 84, of Santa Fe, died at his home on Thursday, April 13, 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loweta Akin; and his mother, Eleanor Akin. Don was born on November 3, 1915 in Hot Springs, AR. He was a graduate of the University of New Mexico. Before his retirement he was employed as a civil engineer for the U.S. Geological Survey and NM State Engineer's Office. He was a member of St. John's Methodist Church. He is survived by his sons, Robert Akin and wife, Anne of Grants and Richard Akin of California; sister, Doris Neeb of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Charleene of California; and niece, Georgia Daves and husband, Gary of Bosque Farms. Visitation will begin on Saturday, April 15, 12:30 p.m., at Berardinelli Family Chapel, where a Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque. Beauchamp -- Malcolm"Mac" Beauchamp, 82, a resident of Albuquerque for 53 years, passed away on April 7, 2000. Mac is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughter, Rhonda Blech and husband, Forrest; and sons, Richard, and Ronald and wife, Cecilia Navarrete; three grandchildren, Carla Beauchamp and husband, Joel Jacobsen, Annalise and Gretchen Blech; great-grandsons, Alexander, Scott and Benjamin Jacobsen; and Judy's son, James Mason and wife, Mary. Born in Havre, Montana on March 7, 1918 to Samuel Wintrode Beauchamp and Clare Andre Beauchamp, Mac was raised in Sioux City, Iowa, where he graduated from Central High School in 1936. He attended Park College in Kansas City, Missouri and Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa before moving his family to Los Angeles, California during WWII, where he worked for Northrop Aviation. Mac came to Albuquerque on February 14, 1947 to work as a watchmaker. He and his former wife, Ione Beauchamp opened Beauchamp and Company Jewelers in 1951. While owner of Beauchamp's, Mac was a watchmaker, a jeweler, and was instrumental in forming the New Mexico Retail Jewelers Association, of which he served as President in 1966. In 1974, he founded Clocks, Inc., where a wide variety of clocks were repaired and sold. Mac loved to use his woodworking talents to make custom designed clocks and repair antique clock cases. Mac and Judy had recently retired to Sun City, Arizona. A Memorial service will be held on April 22, 2000, 3:00 p.m., at Anderson Valley Vineyards. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Humane Association and the American Heart Association.

Danek -- Lucile Francis Danek, 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1961, died Thursday, April 13, 2000. She is survived by her sons, Robert Benton Danek and wife, Sylvia of Albuquerque, Dr. Thomas Arnold Danek and wife, Frances of Pittsboro, NC, and Richard Francis Danek and wife, Karen of Grants; daughter, Linda L. Lawhorn and husband, Col. Paul of San Antonio, TX; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Danek was a member of First United Methodist Church; Mu Phi Epsilon International Honorary Music Sorority; and The National Retired Teachers Association. She was an honor graduate of the former MacPhail School of Music and Dramatic Art, and for a time was a member of their faculty. In 1932, she married Lt. Richard R. Danek. He retired as a U.S. Army Colonel after 33 years of service. He preceded her in death in January of 1998. Mrs. Danek was well known in the music circles of Albuquerque for many years. From 1962 to 1965, she directed five choirs at St. John United Methodist Church. Services will be held Monday, 3:30 p.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. Entombment will follow at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum. Doak -- Verena Vida Doak, age 86, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died Monday night. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings Doak in 1964. She is survived by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graduate of UNM, a one time school teacher, and with her husband, the owner/operator of the Pueblo Drug in Espanola. She had been a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Faith, and active with the St. Vincent's Hospital Auxiliary and other organizations in Santa Fe. A Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at Episcopal Church of the Holy Faith, 311 East Palace Ave., Santa Fe, with the Reverend Dale Coleman officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Holy Faith Organ Fund. Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE, are in charge of cremation arrangements.

Franklin -- Col. Truman L. Franklin, U.S.A.F (Ret.), 77, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Franklin; children, Michael Franklin and wife, Inge, all of Albuquerque, Kirby Franklin and wife, Marta of San Jose, CA, Kathleen Walton and husband, James of Louisville, KY, Gerald Franklin of Corrales, and David Franklin of Albuquerque; and grandchildren, Laura Franklin, Jason Franklin, both of Albuquerque, Dennis Franklin, Bonnie Franklin, both of San Jose, CA, Sara Walton, Abby Walton, Corey Walton, all of Louisville, KY, and Melissa Franklin of Corrales. Col. Franklin retired from the U.S.A.F. after 27 years of service. He worked as an engineer for E.G. & G. and eventually founded his own consulting business, T.L.F. Consulting. He was an avid outdoorsman and a true engineer whose hobbies included metalworking, woodworking and photography. Services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University NE. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Gannaway -- John Y. Gannaway, an Albuquerque banker for many years, died of cancer April 8, 2000. He was 79. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mildred Hodges Gannaway; son, Christopher Kinney Gannaway and wife, Marilyn of Cottage Grove, MN; daughter, Julie G. Smith and husband, Karl of Rockport, ME; grandsons, Ethan Gannaway and Sam Gannaway of Cottage Grove, MN; sister, Margaret Telford of Clarksville, TN; brother, Bruce Gannaway and wife, Ollie of Louisville, KY; several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Son of James J. and Dorothy Yokley Gannaway of Nesbit, MS. He was educated at Hermando, MS High School and Mississippi State University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilou Fraternity. In World War II, John served as a Captain with the 8th Air Force in Europe. He was a bombadier in heavy bombers, flying missions over France and Germany. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. He began his banking career with Albuquerque National Bank, now Bank of America, in 1947. He was an Executive Vice President, Director, and Executive Trust Officer when he retired in 1985. John was a member and ruling Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Albuquerque. He was the first President of Girl Scouts Chaparral Council and served on many Civic boards. At John's request, a Family Celebration of Life was held at the home. His remains were cremated. Harris -- Eloise Harris died peacefully in her sleep on Monday evening, March 13, 2000, at Manor Care Sandia, where she received excellent care in the last two years of her life. She was born April 20, 1900 in Miles City, Montana, the daughter of William and Grace Harris, who preceded her in death. She helped run her family's ranch in Montana and then moved to California in the mid 1930's, where she received a Teaching Certificate and was an elementary school teacher. She moved to New Mexico in 1942 and taught on Indian reservations until 1968 when she retired. She was a resident at Green Acres Mobile Home Village in Albuquerque until 1997. She enjoyed raising flowers and had more than 100 rose bushes in addition to her many flowers on her small mobile home lot. She gave many beautiful bouquets to friends. In her later years, she was cared for by Mary Yturralde, a retired nurse who was her friend and neighbor. She was an independent, unselfish, caring person. At her request, no services are planned.

Hertel -- Vaughn Alan Hertel passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 9, 2000. He was preceded in death by his father, Col. Rodney M. Hertel, who died in November of 1996. Vaughn is survived by his mother, Helen and by his cousin, Marlene Ketchum of the family home. He is also survived by an aunt and uncle, Jean and Byron Hobein of Anchorage, AK, and their family; by an uncle, Grover L. Taylor and family of Juncau, AK; another uncle, Dr. Frank Hertel resides in Denton, TX. Vaughn is also survived by many cousins and other relatives. He also leaves behind, Helen Peak of the family home, his special care giver for the past ten years, and his very good friends, Sally and Yvette. Vaughn was Down Syndrome and was loved by many people because of his sweet and loving personality. He had accompanied his parents on all of his father's military assignments. The family lived in many states and spent three years in the Basque Country of northern Spain, where they made many friends. The family chose Albuquerque as a retirement home because of the climate. Vaughn enjoyed bowling and belonged to the Silver Bullets Bowling group on the West Side. He was a member of the Silver Bullets Civitan Club. Cremation has taken place, provided by Sunrise Society. A private Memorial Service was held with Rev. David Snyman of the Paradise Hills United Methodist Church officiating. If so desired, friends may make donations in memory of Vaughn to Silver Bullets Civitan Club, c/o Carol Kline-Watson, 225 Sunnyslope St. SW, Albuquerque, NM 87105.

Lopez -- Jose Albert Lopez passed away Thursday, April 13, 2000 in Albuquerque. He was born September 7, 1938 in Socorro to Nep and Katie Lopez. He is survived by his parents; brothers, Nep Edward Jr., Paul and wife, Cholo of Socorro; sisters, Terry and husband, Andy of Albuquerque, Nellie and husband, Perley Brown of Austin, TX, Cathy and husband, Vicente Peralta of Magdalena, NM; and many nieces and nephews. Rosary was held on Friday, April 14, 2000 at San Miguel Catholic Church at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, April 15, 11:00 a.m., at San Miguel. Rainwater -- Pat Rainwater, 83, formerly of Dawson, NM and a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years, died Thursday, April 13, 2000. He is survived by his son, Lyle Rainwater and wife, Verna of Arlington, TX; daughters, Carole J. Myers and husband, Jim of Angel Fire, and Sharon J. Leatherman and companion, Bob Payne, of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Deanna Myers, Janie Garcia, Darrel Leatherman, Tim Leatherman, and Mark Rainwater; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Ashley, Courtney and Klarysa; sister, Lois Dunn of Venice, CA; beloved friend, Camille Perrone of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Earline Rainwater in 1977. Mr. Rainwater was retired from UNM as the physical plant manager. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His love of fishing and hunting in the mountains of northern New Mexico have inspired his children and grandchildren to follow in his footsteps. Riccardelli -- Josephine M."nee Adone" Riccardelli, 89, a resident of Corrales since 1998, died April 13th, she would have celebrated her 90th birthday, May 1st. Josephine was born in New York City in 1910, she moved as a youth to Staten Island, where she worked for many years as a beautician. During World War II, she inspected bombs at the Unexcell Munitions Factory. She retired from Willowbrook State School and remained a lifelong Yankee fan. She was active for 16 years while living and enjoying Cassidy Coles Senior Center. Josephine is survived by two daughters, Joan Nasta and husband, Nicholas of Corrales, Carol Ramsey of Bricktown, NJ; a son, Philip Riccardelli of Point Pleasant, NJ; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Elizabeth Lauro and husband, Thomas of Staten Island; two granddaughters-in-law, who helped with their caring nursing during her illness; and two sisters-in-law, Ann and Lena Adone; in addition to several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the chapel of Alameda Mortuary, and on Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A Prayer service will be conducted on Monday morning, 9:00 a.m., at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Scott -- Willard A. Scott, Lt. Col. (Ret.) AUS, 69, of Laguna Pueblo and the village of Paguate, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, died April 11, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Lea Yandell Scott of Albuquerque; son, Mark Scott and his wife, Barbara, their children, Travis, Sarah, Emily and Becka, all of Sunapee, NH; son, Jeff Scott and his wife, Dawn, their sons, Peter Ambs, James and Tad Scott, all of Roswell; daughter, Carol and husband, Roy McCallister of Tijeras; mother-in-law, Venia Yandell of Las Cruces; and brother-in-law, Billy Yandell of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his son, James; and his parents, James and Grace Scott. Colonel Scott retired from the U.S. Army in 1980 after 28 years active service and reserve service. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He served as the Native American advisor to the Bishop of the Diocese of the Rio Grande and as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. He was a Life Member of Zia Chapter, the Special Forces Association, The Reserve Officers' Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 401, The War Shield Gourd Society, and the Military Order of the World Wars. Colonel Scott retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1999. He was with the Division of Student Services as a Guidance Counselor at Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute. the family would like to thank the cardiac care nurses and staff at both Presbyterian Hospital and the Heart Hospital; the doctors and staff of New Mexico Heart Institute and New Heart, Inc.; and especially Drs. Alan King and John Storey. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 17, 3:00 p.m., at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver SW, Albuquerque. Private internment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Short -- Jewel Ruby Short, age 92, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, went home to her Lord, Thursday, April 13, 2000. She is survived by her beloved son, Wallace Short and wife, Janice of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Gary Short and wife, Jeanne Lee of Edgewood, NM and Tracy Sheridan and husband,Tim of Cedar Crest, NM; great-grandchildren, Lisa Short of Portland, OR, Jacquelyn Short of Huntington Beach, CA, Tara and Tommy Sheridan of Cedar Crest, NM. She also leaves her sister, Esthel Scott of Culver City, CA; and many nieces and nephews and great-great-grandchildren. Jewel was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Short. Mrs. Short was born in Wetumka, OK and lived most of her life in Southern California, where she and her husband managed the two thousand acre Fleming Ranch in Mt. Center, California. Vigil -- Carlota J. Vigil, age 84, died on April 13, 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe C. Vigil; and three sons, Simon, Freddie, and Ronnie Vigil. Mrs. Vigil is survived by her son, Benjamin Vigil; her daughter, Annie Chavez and husband, Leo; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Vigil was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Waters -- Emery T. Waters, age 83, a resident of Albuquerque for over 50 years, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie in 1982. Mr. Waters is survived by nieces, Glenda Grant of Illinois and Karen Kerans of Wisconsin; nephews, Lowell Kerans and Jerry Kerans, both of Illinois and Jerry Waters of Arkansas. He was an active church member until his health prevented him from attending. Mr. Waters owned his own accounting business and he was involved in Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International. Visitation will be held Monday, April 17, 2000, from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m., at Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE. A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in the chapel of Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, with Rev. John Hamilton officiating.
