Aragon -- Ignacia S. Aragon, a resident of Albuquerque for the last 50 years, passed away Saturday morning, November 20, 1999, at the age of 98. Ignacia was born to her late parents, Melecio and Virginia Lujan Sanchez on July 31, 1901, in Trementina, NM. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Seferino Aragon; son, Lorenzo; brothers, Rafael Sanchez and his wife, Guadalupe and Ramon Sanchez and his wife, Ofelia; sisters, Conferina Trujillo and husband, Demecio and Adela Padilla and husband, Nocario; and son-in-law, Jose A. Estrada. She is survived by her three children, Ruben Aragon, Facundo Aragon and wife, Amelia, all of Albuquerque and Emma Estrada of Las Vegas, NM; and brother, Alfonso Sanchez and wife, Cordelia. Ignacia had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Ignacia had four special nieces who were forever at her side, Mary Gonzales and husband, Eloy, Frances Martin and her late husband, Bob, Angie Garcia and Patty Romero. Ignacia was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and an active member of the Senior Church group. Rosary will be recited Monday, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW, with Father Ramon Aragon, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Baca Jr., Chris Baca, Dan Estrada, Jude Romero, Donny Estrada, Ben Martin, Miguel Padilla, Carlos Sanchez and Jesse Estrada. Corcoran -- Nancy B. Corcoran, 60, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died Friday, November 19, 1999. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Tom C. Corcoran of the family home; daughter, Kelly J. Morrison of Houston, TX; sons, Thomas C. Corcoran Jr. and Randy L. Corcoran and wife, Katie; daughter, Darcy L. Savage and husband, Mark, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Kyle and Amy Morrison, Lindsey and Kimberly Corcoran, and Ryan and John Corcoran; mother, Marjorie Beyer of Delano, MN; brothers, Edward Beyer and wife, Bernie of Dassel, MN and Lloyd Beyer and wife, Isabel of Minneapolis, MN; and sisters, Jean Hardin of Sacramento, CA and Joanne Menke and husband, James of Barnes, WI. Mr. Corcoran had been an employee of New York Life Insurance Company for 13 years. Nancy loved her work and will miss her wonderful"family" of co-workers. Mrs. Corcoran loved the Jemez Mountain country and will be missed by many friends in the Jemez Springs and Horse Shoe Springs area. Pirkey -- Helen R. Pirkey, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, died Saturday, November 20, 1999. She is survived by her sons, Herbert Pirkey III and wife, Pamela of Denver, CO, David V. Pirkey of Albuquerque, and Gary D. Pirkey of Albuquerque; daughter, Diane K. Nolen and husband, John of Albuquerque; one granddaughter, April M. Nolen of Albuquerque; three sisters, Dorothy M. Davidson and husband, Buddy of Bath, NC, Shirley J. Young and husband, Jarry of Salem, VA, and Joyce A. Harrison and husband, Clinton of Vinton, VA; and brother, Jerry W. Ross of Richmond, VA. Mrs. Pirkey was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Pirkey Jr. in August 1996. She was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church, where she was active in the Ruth Sunday School class, and she was employed at their school as the"nap-lady", helping with the young children. Mrs. Pirkey was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and she was a Red Cross volunteer for many years. She retired from J.C. Penney after 15 years with them. Mrs. Pirkey, a devout Christian mother, is also fondly remembered for her"Teddy bear" collection and for being an avid reader. Services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris NE, with Pastors Larry Miller and Errol Stepp officiating. Rawley -- Palmer B. Rawley Jr., born to Janet Hershey Rawley and Col. Palmer B. Rawley Sr. on October 14, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA, died Friday, November 19, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Eloise Holland Rawley of the home; sons, Alan Rawley of Kansas City, MO and Clifford Rawley, Dr. of Divinity, of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Gail Kaul of Athens, Greece; brothers, John H. Rawley of Hershey, PA and Robert Rawley of Clifton, NJ; step-mother, Gabrielle Rawley of Manohawken, NJ; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Rawley began ballooning 27 years ago. He was crew chief for Flying Fez, The Spud, Boodle, Purple Sage, Starwalker, and JB Scotch. Mr. Rawley was active in AAAA-Albuquerque Aerostat Ascension Association for the past 20 plus years. He attended the last 27 Balloon Fiestas. Mr. Rawley was a fixed wing pilot and he served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He worked in Los Alamos from 1947 to 1954. Sanchez -- Margarita DeLuna Sanchez, a resident of Alameda, passed away on Friday in Edgewood. She is survived by her husband, Salvador Sanchez of Alameda; two sons, Salvador Sanchez Jr. and wife, Connie of Bloomington, CA, Anthony Sanchez and wife, Mary of Albuquerque; two sisters, Erna Gurule and husband, Pat of Albuquerque, Sally Rangel and husband, Gilbert; and a special niece, Sadie Armijo of Albuquerque. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends. Her past 19 years were devoted to her husband as a loving wife and caretaker. She was a member of the Carmelitas and Alter Rosary Society. She was also a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this morning, 11:00 a.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Interment will follow at San Carlos Cemetery. Smith -- James Bennington Smith, Lt. Col., US Army Retired - Born January 10, 1914, passed away into the arms of our loving LORD, JESUS, at the age of 85 years, November 18, 1999. James had been a resident of Albuquerque for several years. He was a member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church. James served his country in the Army. He served in the Second World War and the Korean Conflict. He served in the Army of Occupation in Germany, where he and his family traveled extensively. James, with his loving wife, Suda, also served in the US Military Advisory Group Embassy, in Peru. James retired from Fort San Houston, Texas. After James retired from the military, he attended the University of New Mexico, where he received his Master's degree in Education. He taught chemistry and physics at Trona High School in Trona, California. While living in Trona, he was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and was active in the Gem and Mineral Society, Eastern Star and a Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge. After his retirement from teaching James resided in Albuquerque, until his death. He is survived by his daughters, Sue Ann Strickland and husband, Milton of Albuquerque, Ellen J. Woodruff and husband, Michael of Edgewood; brother, Robert H. Smith of Vacaville, CA; sister, Margaret E. Mapes of Medford, OR; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; three nephews; and two nieces. Services will be held at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy NE, Monday, November 22, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Tabacchi -- Josephine M. Tabacchi, beautiful and precious mother and aunt, returned to the arms of Jesus on Thursday, November 18th. A lifelong resident of New Mexico, she was preceded in death by her husband, John C. (Charley) Tabacchi; daughter, Constance Lee; brothers, Henry E. Umhoefer and John J. Umhoefer; and sisters, Eleanor Watt and Bertha A. Greer. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria; great-niece, Jan Heinen and husband, Russ Gent of Tijeras; nephews, Don Umhoefer (Mary Lee) of Houston, TX, Ralph Umhoefer (Marian) of Las Vegas, NV; and other family members and friends throughout the country. Spirited and adventurous, loving and compassionate, Josephine was happiest in the great outdoors, either on horseback or hiking the trails of New Mexico, which she enjoyed into her mid 80s. She was loved by all who knew her and will live in our heart forever. God grant rest to the"Best in the West." She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, where the visitation at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday will be followed by recitation of the Rosary. Thornton -- Frank Thornton went home to his Lord, November 19, 1999, at age 86 1/2. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gwendolene. He had three daughters, Vena Haller and husband, Raymond of Grand Junction, CO, Helen Holt and husband, Bud of Los Lunas, and Mary Higgins of Albuquerque. He had loving grandchildren, Chris Holt of Las Cruces, Bonnie Hausknecht and husband, Bruce of Colorado Springs, CO, Randy Holt and wife, Sharon of Albuquerque, Lonnie Hanzon of Denver, CO, Becky Noll and husband, Michael of Draper, UT, Shari Shaver of Los Lunas, Scott Holt and wife, Terri of Los Lunas, Jean Quintana and husband, John of Rio Rancho, and Charlotte Higgins of Hastings, NE; 13 great-grandchildren; his sister, Doris Floyd of Lake Havasu, AZ; three nieces and two nephews. Other loved ones are Larry Hanson, Bruce Higgins and Rick Shaver, and many, many friends. Frank loved his church and taught Sunday School to 5th and 6th grades for over 50 years. Ulivarri -- Ventura (Bennie) Ulivarri peacefully went home to be with Jesus, Mary and Joseph...and all those who loved and prayed for her. Urvanejo -- Erlinda R. Urvanejo, 77, beloved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 18, 1999. Mrs. Urvanejo was born in Tucumcari, NM to the late Joseph and Ophelia Romero; she was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church; she married the loved of her life, Angelo Urvanejo on June 20, 1942, they were blessed with eight children; she enjoyed bowling, cooking and baking for her loving family. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Angelo Urvanejo of the family home; her children, Angelina Mittlestrdt and husband, Michael of Denver, CO, Joseph Urvanejo and wife, Emoline, Dolores Urvanejo, Manuel Urvanejo and wife, Jean, Robert (Bob) Urvanejo and wife, Petra, all of Albuquerque, Rose Troupe of Los Lunas, John Urvanejo, also of Albuquerque, and Patricia Martinez of Alaska; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Vigil -- Carmel R. Vigil Sr., 78, beloved and devoted father, grandfather and brother, was called home to be with the Lord, Friday, November 19, 1999. Mr. Vigil was born on July 16, 1921 to the late Manuel and Teresa Vigil; he was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; and the owner and operator of the CRV Grocery Store. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Theresa Vigil and Nancy Yvonne Vigil; one brother, Herman Vigil; and one sister, Oralia Sanchez. He is survived by his loving children, Rita Phifer and husband, Donald of El Paso, TX, Sylvia Thompson and husband, Donald of Albuquerque, Carmel Vigil Jr. and wife, Joyce of Portland, OR, Linda Montoya and husband, Reyes of Albuquerque, Victor Vigil and wife, Rosemarie of Rio Rancho, Abrian Vigil, Juliana Bledsoe and husband, Jim, Janet Serna and husband, Pablo, and Jacqueline Whitlatch and husband, Jim, all of Albuquerque; 22 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers, Isabel Barros and husband, John, Lena Baca and husband, Tito, Erlinda Sanchez and husband, Rudy, Theresa Segura, Leonardo Vigil and wife, Bernice, Jenny Sanchez and Dodi Aragon and husband, Ted. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this morning, 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Casket bearers will be Donald Phifer, Donald Thompson, Reyes Montoya, Jim Bledsoe, Pablo Serna and Jim Whitlatch. Mr. Vigil will lie in state today, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., also at the church. Zubia -- Paula Pauline Zubia, 87, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque, died November 18, 1999. She is survived by her sons, Robert Zubia and wife, Edna and Alvino Zubia and wife, Erin; daughters, Helen Gutierrez, Tina Montoya, Carmen Chavez and husband, Eddie, and Consuelo Swan and husband, Manuel; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Baca; brother, Joe Ortega and wife, Clara; and family and friends who loved and will miss her. A special thanks to Presbyterian Hospice staff and special nieces, Letesia Baca and Connie Lujan. Services will be held at Living Water Church, 7002 Acoma SE, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 22, 1999, funeral at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, and burial following at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Gutierrez, Paul Montoya, Richard Zubia, Anthony Chavez, Igancio Lujan, and Carlos Swan. Honorary pallbearers will be Mario Gomez and Gabriel Zubia.
