Armijo -- Susanita (Susie) Armijo, 82, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord on May 20, 1999, after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Juan Armijo; one son, Pete H. Armijo; and a grandson, Raymond Lovato Jr. She is survived by one son, Antonio M. Armijo and wife, Vickie of Salt Flats, TX; five daughters, Ramona M. Armijo of Albuquerque, Amelia M. Roybal and husband, Peto of Maywood, CA, Carolina M. Martinez of Albuquerque, Gloria Lovato and husband, Raymond of Freemont, CA, and Lupe F. Armijo of Hendreson Nevada; one daughter-in-law, Laura Armijo of Bell, CA; one brother and sister-in-law, Juanito and Faustina Ramirez of Dolores, CO; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Garcia Mortuary, 8th and Stover. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Conrado Armijo, Carlos Bernal, Paul Gonzales, Sgt. Jaun Lovato, Che Romero, and Michael Schaus. Funeral services are under the care of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover.

Beall -- Marcia McClary Beall, 68, born January 4, 1931, in Dawson, New Mexico, died May 15, 1999, at her home with family members at her side. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, George; two daughters, Nancy Nickoley and husband, Paul and their sons, Scott, Todd and Karl of Highlands Ranch, CO, Sandra Russell and husband, William and their son, Aidan of New York City; one brother, J. Robert McClary and wife, Sonja of Eureka, CA; one sister, Carol McClary Myers of Albuquerque; and numerous nephews and nieces. Marcia volunteered countless hours during her husband's military career and established homes in Kentucky, Germany, Oklahoma, Washington, Texas, Kansas, Washington, DC, and Albuquerque. Since 1973 she had taken care of all administrative responsibilities for the family business. Marcia was a founding member of the Convention and Activities Committee of the New Mexico Home Builders Association and gave generously of her time and talent for more than eight years. Her particular focus each year was the design and fabrication of unique tote bags that quickly became the"signature event" for the Association trips and caused her to be known affectionately as"The Bag Lady." Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Bennett -- Lila Bennett, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1976, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999. She is survived by daughter, Nikki Kull and husband, Michael; son, Max D. Bennett and wife, Pam; sister, Wanda L. Kilgo; grandchildren, Nolan Bennett and wife, Katie, Meredith Bennett, Krista Earickson and husband, Steve, Heath and wife, Lani Kull; and great-grandchildren, Nathan Earickson and Britney Hanchett. Lila enjoyed hiking all different trails throughout New Mexico. She was the co-owner of The Gals women's shop in Portales in the 1980s and a member of the Portales Women's Club and Garden Club. Lila was active in First Methodist Church in Portales and St. John's United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. She also participated in arts and crafts and was an accomplished seamstress. Bissell -- Elizabeth Rose Ochoa Bissell suffered a stroke on Tuesday, May 11, 1999 and died at home on Monday, May 17 under the care of her daughters and hospice staff. Those who will remember her with love and admiration are her four daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Charles Wohlenberg, Sally and Gilbert Quintana, Denise and Jason Kent and Wendy and Barney Fuller; her precious grandchildren, Julia, Jacob, Carson and Spencer; her mother, Rose Ochoa; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine Kuntz, Margaret and Ed Siel, Helen and Steve Shea and Marie and Quinn Matthewson and her many nieces and nephews. Liz was preceded in death by her husband, James Edwin Bissell; father, Henry Ochoa; and brother, Henry Ochoa Jr. She will also be remembered fondly by her many kind friends and neighbors. Liz was born on January 23, 1926 in Otis, CO. She was a high school basketball all-star and as a young woman in the 1940s contributed to the war effort as a airplane riveter for the Boeing Company in Seattle, WA. Among many other interesting jobs throughout her life, she especially enjoyed her time as a legal secretary for the New Mexico State Public Defenders Office. She was also a wonderful seamstress who kept children, grandchildren and other family members well clothed. She always felt her greatest joy, however, was raising her children and grandchildren. After her husband's death in 1995, Liz remained active with the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. We will always remember her as an extremely kind and tolerant woman. She loved people and always had a big smile and a ready laugh. She had lots of love to give and would easily do anything for her family and friends. As a childhood friend once said of her,"You know, Liz never knew a stranger." We can't begin to say how much we love her and will miss her. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 21, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, 2621 Vermont NE, at Claremont. With reception following at the Church's Community Center. Liz will be buried next to her husband, Jim at Santa Fe National Cemetery on May 21 at 2:00 p.m.

Bowman -- Evelyn Bowman, 85, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past year and a half, and a longtime resident of Los Alamos and Bloomfield, New Mexico, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 1999. Evelyn was born August 24, 1913 the daughter of Frank C. and Ruth Pace Houlihan in Virden, New Mexico. She had been a bookkeeper for a construction company for 23 years, before retiring. Evelyn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Alamos. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Lee Bowman and son, Fred Zumwalt and one daughter, Deannie Sorrels and her husband, Seigel Sorrels. She is survived by five children, Lorraine Livermore and her husband, Martel, Milton Freestone and wife, Bobbie, Joe Bowman and wife, Mary, Sally Winn and husband, Ken, and Ruth Gibsona and husband, Hezzie; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. A visitation for Evelyn will be held today, Friday, May 21, 1999 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The service will be on Saturday, May 22, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Alamos with the interment to follow in Guaje Pines Cemetery, Los Alamos. Harris -- COL (Ret) Judd Thomas Harris, Jr. 11/24/20 - 5/19/99COL (Ret) Judd T. Harris, Jr. passed away Wednesday, May 19, 1999 at his home in Albuquerque after a brief illness. Judd was born on November 24, 1920 in Hoquaim, Washington. Judd was married by proxy to Vinita"Nita" Evelyn Booth on August 14, 1943 while serving in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II. They later reaffirmed their vows in Seattle, Washington on November 11, 1944 after his return from the war in the South Pacific. Judd was a veteran of World War II, Korea, and the Vietnam War. Judd joined the U.S. Army shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor as a Private and rose to the rank of Full Colonel during the course of a thirty (30) year military career. Judd and his family moved to Albuquerque in 1967, where he later retired from the military and went on to teach middle school science in Los Lunas, New Mexico. Judd is survived by his loving wife, Nita; his daughter, Kristin Pilling, grandchildren, Erin and Jason Pilling; son, Michael and wife, Sandy, grandchildren, Sarrah and Charlotte; son, Craig, grandchildren, Amie and Eric; great-grandchild, Destinee; son, Scott and wife, Deedee, grandchildren, Shane and Cole; and son, Steven and wife, Gena, grandchildren, Logan and Denny. Judd attended the University of Washington prior to World War II and later received his Baccalaureate Degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. He received his Master of Arts Degree at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Judd was a dedicated family man. He actively participated with the growth and development of his five children, Kristin, Michael, Craig, Scott, and Steven through 15 years as an adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America; as a lifetime member and officer in Evening Optimist Club of Albuquerque; and family camping, sports, and wood crafts. Judd was also a journeyman, carpenter and cabinetmaker, a Free Mason, and an accomplished home builder. He was an RV and powerboat owner, downhill snow skier, handball player, runner, fisherman, fitness, and outdoor enthusiast. Daddy, your loving wife, Nita, your children and family will miss you. You were always there for us and you will never be forgotten. We will always love you. Hartley -- Ruth E. Hartley, 73, a resident of Albuquerque since 1981, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999. She is survived by her husband, James A. Hartley, marriage of 50 years; son, Douglas A. Mrs. Hartley was a long standing volunteer for the New Mexico Natural History and Science Museum and previously The Smithsonian Institute in Washington. Hatchell -- Neal Franklin Hatchell, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Monday, May 17, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Edna E. Hatchell of 61 of the family home; two sons, Kirk Hatchell and wife, Beth of Albuquerque and Jim N. Hatchell of Albuquerque; and grandchild, Zeke Hatchell. He was a member of Mountain Side Church of Christ and child of God. Mr. Hatchell was an Army Veteran of WWII. Neal was also a member of VFW. Mr. Hatchell founded Hatchell Brothers Construction Company into a highly successful company of 47 years to present. He was a mentor and supporter of many fledgling businessmen and companies in Albuquerque. Services will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Alan Taylor officiating. Hendrix -- Ralph E. Hendrix, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, May 17, 1999. He was eighty-four years of age. Mr. Hendrix was born on November 20, 1914, on a farm near Humboldt, Nebraska. Life on the farm was a great way of life for him. His education began in a one-room schoolhouse. He came to Albuquerque in 1943. He married Sibyl McCulloch in 1945 in Arnett, Oklahoma. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Hendrix was a carpenter by trade and construction superintendent. During the 50's, he moved his family back to a Nebraska farm. After seven years, they returned to Albuquerque. Supervisor of the packaging department at Sandia National Labs, he retired in 1980. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Albuquerque and the Two-Som Sunday School Class, and had completed five years of courses in Bible Study Fellowship. Mr. Hendrix was designated a lifetime member of the Master Gardeners of Albuquerque, as well as a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post #269 of Humboldt. Mr. Hendrix was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Beulah Hendrix; brother, Wayne Hendrix; and sisters, Lucille Gilbert and Elsie Hendrix. He is survived by his wife, Sibyl of the family home; daughters, Sibyl Jan Gragg and husband, Rob of Spokane, Washington, Linda Fern Fay and husband, Don of Oxnard, California, Edith Anne Hendrix of Albuquerque; son, Ralph Cray Hendrix and wife, Renee of Portales, New Mexico; six granddaughters, Heather Gragg, Jayme Housh, Danielle, Pamella, Susan, and Jeannine Hendrix; one grandson, Ralph Tristan Hendrix; sister, Helen Glathar and husband, John of Humboldt, Nebraska; brother, Robert Hendrix and wife, Dorothy of Mt. Holt -- Margaret Lee Holt, 35, a resident of St. Charles, MO, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999. She is survived by her mother, Patt Holt; father, Jan Holt; sisters, Lynn and Jennifer, all of St. Charles, MO. Margaret was born May 8, 1963 in Albuquerque. She graduated from Duchesne High School in St. Charles, MO. She received a Bachelor's degree in business from the University of New Mexico and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega at UNM. Margaret completed her Master's in business administration at the University of California at Irvine. Newsom -- Helen M. Newsom, 82, went peacefully to join her husband, Newt; and son, Jerry on May 4, 1999 in Peoria, AZ, where she lived the last few years. She and her family had resided in Albuquerque for 47 years. She leaves behind daughters, Linda Williamson, Sue Cassidy, and Robbie Springer; ten grandkids and four great-grandkids; one remaining sister, Irene Williams; and numerous other family members. Purtymun -- William D. (Bill) Purtymun, 72, a resident of Santa Fe for 33 years, died May 19, 1999, after a lengthy illness. He was born February 26, 1927 in Clemenceau, Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of the family home; daughter, Ann Smith and husband, Bill of Albuquerque; sons, William F. Purtymun and wife, Paige of Los Alamos, and Kevin D. Purtymun and wife, Beverly of Los Alamos. He is also survived by grandchildren, Bryan Smith, Tyler and Hannah Purtymun, whom he loved very much; and his brother, Robert M. Purtymun of Manteca, CA; and nieces and nephews. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He worked for the USGS for 15 years and LANL for 22 years. He retired from LANL in 1990 as a geohydrologist. He will be missed tremendously by his family, friends and colleagues. Private cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Osage at 9:00 a.m., Monday, May 24, 1999. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. She is survived by her daughters, Jeanette Saunders and husband, Dave of Albuquerque and Joyce Rayburn and husband, Boyd of Bella Vista, AR; sons, James Rice and wife, Alice of Albuquerque and Tommy Rice and wife, Arlene of Mulberry, AR; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Pickett and husband, C.V. of Tyler, TX; brothers, Cliett Hooker and wife, Maurine of Fort Worth, TX, Leonard Hooker and wife, Billie Ruth of Lancaster, TX, Louis Hooker and wife, Alice Ruth of Tyler, TX and Billy Charles Hooker and wife, Barbara of Hillsboro, TX. Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Rice; son, Art C. Rice; and brothers, John Hue Hooker and Raymond Hooker. Margaret's home was a home to all friends, neighbors and relations. Let her be remembered for her generosity and loving nature. Rubi -- Mr. Damascio C. Rubi died on Wednesday at the age of 36. He is survived by two daughters, Ashley Rubi and Amanda Griego; three brothers, Chris Rubi, Raymond Rubi and Ernest Rubi; and two sisters, Rosalina Roblies and Rita Alvarado. Funeral services for Mr. Rubi will be held on Saturday at the St. Alice Catholic Church in Mountainair, where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Punta de Agua Cemetery. Walsh -- Josephine V. Walsh, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 1999. Mrs. Walsh's favorite pastime was playing Bingo at the various sites around Albuquerque. Her survivors include her son, Michael Walsh and wife, Jacqueline of Albuquerque; her grandson, Derek Walsh; and many friends and relatives.
