Bainbridge -- Richard H. ("Dick") Bainbridge, 57, died August 23, 1998 at his home in Albuquerque. Son of the late Harold and Veronica Bainbridge. He was born in Hagerstown, MD and lived in Bucks County, Pennsylvania for over 40 years before moving to New Mexico. He was a 1959 graduate of Delhaas High School and served in the US Navy aboard the USS Valley Forge. He is survived by his five children, Kim (husband, Kenneth) Yulich of Lansdale, PA, Lisa of Rutherford, NJ, Eric (wife, Shirley) of Albuquerque, Marc (wife, Sandra) of Horsham, PA, Jeff of Abington, PA; and nine beautiful grandchildren; his sisters, Phyllis Harriman of Albuquerque and Lynn Clark of Chicago; brothers, James of Albuquerque and Joseph of Yardley; along with 14 nieces and nephews, his family and friends. Memorial services will be held privately by his family in Albuquerque.

Battat -- Morris Ezekiel Battat, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, died Monday, August 24, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Aurora Battat of Albuquerque; daughter, Anita Battat of Albuquerque; sons, Kenneth Battat of Albuquerque and David Battat of Boston, MA; grandchildren, Thaddeus Jude Battat Beeley of Farmington, Margaret Summer Battat and Daniel Alexander Battat, both of Boston; brothers, Charles Battat, Jack Battat, Abraham Battat, and Paul Battat, all of San Francisco, CA; sisters, Seemah Kelley of Bountiful, UT; Rochelle Sloane of Beverly Hills, CA, and Rama Battat of San Francisco, CA. Mr. Battat was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel of Albuquerque. He was born in Rangoon, Burma on December 11, 1918. Mr. Battat emigrated to U.S.A. and he became a US citizen in 1942. He served in the US Army WWII. Mr. Battat attended graduate school at Washington University at St. Louis. He began work at Los Alamos in 1950, retiring in 1977. Mr. Battat was a part-time adjunct professor at UNM from 1965 to 1971. Graveside services were held on Tuesday at Fairview Memorial Park's Jewish War Veteran's section, with Rabbi Isaac Celnik and Cantor Josh Perlman officiating. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 26, 1998, 7:00 p.m., at Congregation B'nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Rd. NE. Chavez -- Mr. Victor L. Chavez, age 68, died Thursday in Albuquerque. Funeral Services for Mr. Chavez will be held on Wednesday at the Holy Family Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Christilaw -- Mr. Richard Christilaw died Tuesday in San Ysidro at the age of 75. Mr. Christilaw was a member of the San Ysidro Catholic Church and was a veteran of World War II. He served as the first mayor of San Ysidro, New Mexico and was a member of 3rd Order of St. Francis. Mr. Christilaw also served as Sandoval County Commissioner, a school bus contractor and member of the Local Union 412. He was also a member of Curcillo and the weekend movement of Christian Living in Jemez Valley. Mr. Christilaw is survived by his wife, Preciliana (Precilla) Christilaw, of the family home; son, Edwin Christilaw and wife, Bernice of Belen, NM; daughter, Barbara Trujillo and husband, Steve of San Ysidro, NM; brother, Andy Paiz and wife, Lydia of Albuquerque; sister, Mary D. Chavez and husband, Candelario of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, Adam John, Adam Paul, Adrian, and Amy Trujillo, and Nicholas, Philip and Ariana Christilaw; and three great-grandchildren, Skylar, Nicholas Jr. and Mia. Funeral Services for Mr. Christilaw will be held on Saturday at the San Ysidro Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., with Father Larry presiding. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Adam J. Contreras -- Refugio Contreras, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 25, 1998. Born to Juan Andres and Antonia Contreras on September 26, 1915 in Contreras, NM. He has resided in Belen since 1954. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from KAFB. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Rufina Contreras and eleven children, Jose Baloy Contreras, Connie Boyd and husband, Lou, Rosemarie Cordova and husband, Max, Naria Maes and husband, Ralph, Esperfia Mills, Maria Luz Contreras, Wilfred Contreras, Juan Andres Contreras and wife, Diane, Ramona Liot and husband, Jim, Reynaldo Ramon Contreras and wife, Benita, and Patrick Contreras and wife, Denise. Also surviving him are 33 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, one brother, Albino Contreras and several nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 1998 at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Gallegos -- Eloy L. Gallegos, age 72, passed away August 21, 1998. He is survived by his sons, Leroy A. Gallegos, Sr. and Ernest N. Garrett; grandson, Leroy A. Gallegos, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Dinah M. Diaz; and sister, Tillie Archuleta. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary G. Gallegos, brothers, Gilberto and Secundino Gallegos. He retired from Meads Fine Breads, and was a member of BCT Local 351 since 1948. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 1998 at San Felipe Catholic Church. Gallegos -- Mr. Flaminio J. Gallegos, 58, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on August 22, 1998. Mr. Gallegos was the beloved husband of Mrs. Kathy S. Gallegos. He is also survived by his mother, Anastasia Montoya and husband, Joe; seven daughters, Dee Dee Candelaria and husband, Mike, Joanne Sisneros and husband, Melvin, Deanna DeLara and husband, Jerry, Ramona Perez, Helen Gonzales, Consuelo Allen and husband, Mike and Lisa Sais and husband, Jimmy; four sons, Charles Gallegos and wife, Sherri, Henry Gallegos and wife, Frances, James Gallegos and wife, Janace, and Flaminio Gallegos Jr.; three foster children, Delven, Faron and Elvira; five sisters, Elsie, Gloria, Senida, Cecilia and Della; 33 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Geiger -- Betty Ella Geiger, a loving mother and caring person, 63, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, August 23, 1998. George -- Paul K. George, 52, died August 20, 1998. He is survived by his son, Jeremy and wife, Suzanne; his daughter, Rhonda; grandson, Thomas; mother, Jane; sister, Judith Scott and family; and by his brother, Dennis George and family. Also surviving is his dear and beloved friend, Mary Beager of Clifton, AZ. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Ralph (Kenneth) George. He lived in New Mexico many years, particularly Las Cruces and the Silver City area, however for the last fifteen years he has lived in Morenci and Clifton, AZ. Gurule -- Eva Kilderry Gurule, a resident of Albuquerque for 20 years, went home to the Lord, August 22, 1998. She was born in Spencer, MA to Cordelia and Charles Jean on December 30, 1906 and lived most of her life in the Beverly-Salem-Peabody area. Eva was the beloved mother and grandmother of daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren, Linda Lee Gurule of Albuquerque and children, Christopher and Craig; Patricia and Douglas Dash of Salem, MA and children, Terrence, Cynthia and Kevin; Frances and James Fachko of W. Seneca, NY and children, Donna, Sandra, Steven, Debra and Cheryl; 12 great-grandchildren, Jaime, Kevin and Jason, Bright, Jordan and Devin Fachko, Taylor, Austin, Anna and Emma Powers, Amy Silva, Jordan and Holly Dash; three sisters, all of MA, Cordelia Symmes, Yvonne Provost, and Imelda Fuller; one sister-in-law, also of MA, Sister Julie Kilderry, S.N.D.; and several nieces and nephews; her husband, Louis Gurule; and sisters and brothers-in-law of Albuquerque, Frances and Matt Martinez, Priscilla and Rudy Sprunk, Julie Gurule, Grace Gurule, Corrine and Gilbert Gurule and Ginny and Vincent Gurule; Louis' children, Eleanor, Patricia, Mary Jane and Jerry. Eva was preceded in death by her late husband, Francis L. Kilderry; and dear grandson, Douglas Dale Dash. All who knew Eva loved and cherished her. She will be sadly and greatly missed, but not forgotten by her dearest Hijo, Lee Gurule. Gutierrez -- Hortencia Gutierrez passed away Tuesday, August 25. She is survived by her husband, Tranquilino Gutierrez of 61 years. Also surviving are her children, Roger and Sandra Gutierrez of Silver City, Edna and Rudy Lucero of Albuquerque, Leonard and Rosalie Gutierrez of Bernalillo and Larry and Teri Gutierrez of Bernalillo. Her brother Andrew Santillanes of Albuquerque and sister, Corrina Mora of Bernalillo. Special goddaughter, Mary Duran who helped her to the end. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister Siria Salazar and her granddaughter, Nadine Gutierrez. Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at 11:00 also at the church. Gutierrez -- Mr. Charlie P. Gutierrez Jr., age 38, went to be with Our Lord on Saturday. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Gutierrez. Charlie was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, uncle and brother. Mccahon -- Dr. James H. McCahon, 79, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, August 23, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Naomi; sons, Paul, Jeff and wife, Char, Scott and wife, Donna; daughter, Sarah; stepchildren, Royal Jones, Suzan Haughaboo, Rachel Rippey, Nanette Contreras, Jason Jones; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dr. McCahon enlisted in the NM National Guard 111th Cavalry Band in 1937. He was Federalized as 200th Coast Artillery Band with rank of Warrant Officer, Band Master and was sent to the Philippines August, 1941. He was captured in Bataan April 9, 1942 and was a prisoner of war for 42 months. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a member of Temple Lodge #6 and Past Potentate of the New Mexico Shriners, 1973, a 33 degree Scottish Rite Mason, and was selected New Mexico Veterinarian of the Year, 1976. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper Ave. NE, with Dr. Charles Crutchfield and Rev. Martha Singleterry officiating. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul, Jeff and Scott McCahon, Royal and Jason Jones, and Roy and Jimmy Williams. Mccmullen -- Richard Dennis McMullen, 34, passed away suddenly Monday, August 17, 1998 at his home in Tijeras. Born October 11, 1963 to Joseph and Beryl McMullen, he moved to Albuquerque in 1975. He attended Del Norte High and graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in pharmacy. He is survived by his mother, Beryl McMullen, of Albuquerque; brother and sister-in-law, James and Beatrice McMullen, of San Diego; niece, Marni and nephews, Andrew and Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph. His body will be cremated and ashes spread at a later date in his favorite place, the Jemez Mts., where he spent many happy times camping and hiking with his three dogs. Memorial services will be held at Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Miller -- Ruth Miller, 86, a resident of Albuquerque for over 35 years, died Monday, August 24, 1998. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Miller in 1996 after 48 years of marriage. She graduated from Drake University with a degree in Mortuary Science. Mrs. Miller worked with her father in the funeral business before she and her husband moved to Albuquerque in 1955. She taught bible class for a number of years at University Church of Christ. Ruth was currently a member of Montgomery Blvd. Church of Christ. Her close friends, Jerry Hayes and Frances Crawford were her family. Memorial services will take place Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at Montgomery Blvd. Church of Christ, 7201 Montgomery Blvd. NE, with Dr. Charles Beeson officiating. Montoya -- Mariano G. Montoya, age 85, a resident of Bernalillo, NM, passed away on August 12, 1998 at the Colorado State Nursing Home at Walsenberg. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mariano and Rosa Montoya; two brothers, Frank (Red) and Dick Montoya; his wife of 40 years, Marion MaQuarie Montoya; his sister-in-law, Margaret MaQuarie, both of Scotland; and a son, frank Alexander Montoya. He is survived by his daughter, Anne Woods and husband, Alex of Denver, CO; a brother, Rudy Montoya and wife, Dollie Montoya of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Michael of Gainsville, FL, Chris of Fort Collins, CO and Ryan of Denver, CO; two nieces, Corinne of Albuquerque, Rosanna and husband, Joseph of Bernalillo; three nephews, Paul and wife, Lynn, Rick and wife, Roxie of Bernalillo and Michael of Oakland, CA; three grandnieces, Cassandra, Katelynn, and Dana Rose of Bernalillo; and several cousins. Montoya attended elementary schools in Bernalillo and Albuquerque. He attended Albuquerque High School and the University of NM, where he starred in Basketball and Track. Mariano Montoya served in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the invasion of France, the battle of the bulge in Belgium, and in the invasion of Germany while serving in a Tank Destroyer Battalion. Upon his discharge from the Army he accepted a position with the Rocker-feller Foundation in Venezuela, SA for a period of five years. Upon his return to the U.S., he accepted a position with the Penitentiary System at the Honor Farm at Los Lunas, NM and served there for 23 years until his retirement as a Farm Foreman and Production Manager. He also worked for several years on a part-time basis as a security officer for the K-Mart Corporation at the Carlisle store. Cremation has taken place and his remains have been placed next to those of his son, Frank at the National Cemetery, Fort Logan, CO. Should the family and friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 4600 Lincoln Rd., Albuquerque, NM. The immediate family of Mariano Montoya wishes to extend their gratitude to the personnel of the Restorative Care Unit of the Albuquerque VA Medical Center and the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home for the excellent care they provided him. Pettiford -- Gladys Pettiford, 65, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away August 23, 1998. She was born October 2, 1932 to Mr. Charles and Bertha Smith. she married Bevo Pettiford on October 2, 1954, who preceded her in death. To this union six children were born, Otho John Pettiford, who preceded her in death, Angela Ferguson and husband, James of California, Pastor Daniel Pettiford and wife, Karen of Albuquerque, Joanie Pettiford of New Jersey, Bevo Odell Pettiford of Albuquerque, and Stephanie and husband, Doctor Dennis Jackson of New Jersey; eight grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Tillie and husband, David Sumner and Mary Smith of New York. Also a host of nephews, nieces, brother and sisters-in-law, and many friends. Visitation for Gladys will be Wednesday, August 26, 1998, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at God's House Church. Sluga -- Hester Sluga, 84, a resident of Albuquerque for 50 years, died Sunday, August 23, 1998. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph L. Sluga of Albuquerque; sons, Donald L. Sluga and wife, Carolyn of Windsor, CO and Harold Sluga and wife, Kay of Espanola; grandsons, Shane Sluga and wife, Gena of Phoenix, AZ, and Ronney Sluga and wife, Karen of Rio Rancho; granddaughter, Tambra Nash and husband, John of Albuquerque; great-granddaughter, Megan Sluga; and great-grandsons, Jeff Nash and John Nash; sister, Ruth Brozovich and husband, Paul of Albuquerque; several nieces and nephews, cousins and other family members. Mrs. Sluga worked 20 years for Zales Corp. managing the Mindlin Stores for them. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Dawson, NM. Mrs. Sluga was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church. St. james -- Brenda Marie St. James, 77, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, August 23, 1998. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Marcella Harness of Memphis, TN, and Darlene Carpenter of San Pedro, CA; brother-in-law, David St. James of San Francisco, CA; niece, Debra Diane of San Pedro, CA; nephew, Leon Carpenter, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; and very good friend, Eleanor Evaskovich. Mrs. St. James was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur St. James. She retired from Kirtland AFB. Taylor -- Mildred"Milly" Greenbaum Taylor passed away Saturday night, August 22, 1998. She was born on May 19, 1916 in Kansas City, Kansas. Mildred and her husband, Sol, had lived in Albuquerque since 1939. They were among the original members of Congregation B'Nai Israel. Mildred served as President of the B'Nai Israel Sisterhood, and she was a recipient of the Congregation's Woman of the Year Award. For over 20 years, Mildred was a docent at the Albuquerque Museum. She is survived by her husband, Sol; and sons and daughters-in-law, Allan and Susan Taylor, Ron and Karen Taylor, and Mitch and Sandi Taylor; and seven grandchildren, all of Albuquerque. Mildred is also survived by her sisters, Ruth Kern, Overland, KS, Harriett"Dolly" Sirgany, Miami, FL, and Helen Kay, Washington, DC. Services were held on Monday, August 24. The family requests that donations in Mildred Taylor's memory be sent to the Albuquerque Museum, Presbyterian Hospice, or B'Nai Israel Congregation. The family also conveys a heartfelt thanks to all the people who cared for Mildred, or stopped by to see her, or who sent their good wishes to her over these past few years.
