Bennett -- Ruth P. Bennett, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1968, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, with her family around her at home. She is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. George Bennett, USAF Ret., of Albuquerque; daughter, Deborah Bennett of Espanola; son, George Bennett Jr. and wife, Shauna of Heber City, UT; grandson, Ian Bennett; and granddaughters, Anna and Felicia Bennett, all of Heber City, UT; and brother, George Poimboeuf and wife, Lou of West Monroe, LA. Brashar -- Robert F. Brashar, 75, was born in Espanola, NM, October 24, 1922. A 50 year resident of Chama, NM; he died at home July 4, 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gertrude Brashar. Robert is survived by his wife, Bette; daughters, Devi Wilkinson of Albuquerque, Shane Brashar of San Antonio, TX; grandson, Elliott Wilkinson of Corrales, NM; brother, G.K. Brashar and wife, Barbara of Pagosa Springs, CO; niece, Lynda Brashar; nephews, Cliff Brashar and wife, Larrea, Gary Brashar and wife, Lynn and; many other nieces and nephews. After attending N.M.M.I., Robert served his country in three branches of the military. He trained in Naval Flight School, became a flight instructor for the Army at age 19, then joined the Marine Corps, as a pilot and navigator, serving in the Pacific during World War II. Following the war, he attended New Mexico State University, then began his professional career with the Espanola State Bank in the late 1940's. He retired as manager of the Chama Branch of Sunwest Bank. Bob also served on the Board of Directors of Sunwest Bank of Rio Arriba for 35 years. After retiring from the bank, he continued working at the Chama Insurance Agency, which he had owned for some time. An active member of the community, Bob was a volunteer fireman for several years and served as treasurer of the Presbyterian Church, director and treasurer of the Northern Rio Arriba Electric Co-op for 33 years, and board member of the J.I. Dunham Memorial Clinic for 22 years. Bob was an avid woodworker, gardener, fly fisherman, hunter and general outdoorsman. He loved the Chama area, its people and its mountains. Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 10, 1998, 4:00 p.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Chama with Father Clarence Maes officiating. The family is grateful to Gabriel Abeyta for his personal assistance and wish to thank the many friends of the deceased for their support. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of choice. Coleman -- Priscilla Coleman, 58, and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on July 4, 1998 at Ladera Health Care Center. She was very outgoing in the community and volunteered her time with different recreational programs. Priscilla enjoyed walking, sewing and helping others. She is survived by her longtime companion, Tito Aragon; daughters, Brenda Stevens and her boyfriend, Demacio De Soto of Albuquerque and Alicia Barnet and fiance, Noel Williamson of Arizona; brothers, Raymond Maya and wife, Connie and Louie Maya; sisters, Cecelia Rael and husband, Alfredo, Maggie Maya, Theresa Cash, Gloria Crawford and husband, Gene and Viola Watkins; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who loved and will miss her. Giessen -- Hazel Giessen, 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Alvin Giessen of the family home; daughters, Melba Anita Tugwell and husband, Jack of Albuquerque and Ima Mozelle Vermillion of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Vickie Sue McCullough and husband, Tom, Michael Vermillion and wife, Ruth, Patricia Hackney and husband, Ron, Gayle Ruszanuk and husband, Rick, Connie Feery, Jack Tugwell, and Dennis Tugwell; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Howard Buchanan and wife, Lahoma of Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jerome Kelver Conoley, who passed away in 1976 and her infant daughter, Norma Ruth. She was a member of Del Norte Baptist Church. Mrs. Giessen was very involved in Palo Duro Senior Center and Bear Canyon Senior Center. She enjoyed participating in singing groups at both places. Griffin -- Lillian C. Griffin, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on July 4, 1998, in Mesa, Arizona. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Winfield Griffin; and her son, Winfield"Bill" Griffin. Hahn -- Kathleen A. Hahn, 69, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico for 26 years died Sunday, July 5, 1998 at home with her family by her side. She fought so hard but lost her courageous battle against cancer. Kathleen is survived by two sons, Dennis Hahn and special friend, Darla Plamondon of Cripple Creek, CO and Jerry Hahn and wife, Cindy of Tucson, AZ; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Kathleen is also survived by two sisters, Wanda Geske Baker of Conchas Dam, NM and Lora Y. Lee of Davenport, IA. Kathleen was preceded in death by her son Michael, her mother Grace, her father Ralph and her brother Dean. She was born in Chadron, NE on March 22, 1929 and lived in Davenport, IA for 30 years before moving to Albuquerque in September of 1972. She worked in the printing business since 1962 and was active in the Sunshine Girls of Terrace Park for 12 years. There will be a memorial service at the Terrace Park Mobile Home Recreation Hall, 9000 Zuni SE on Wednesday, July 8, 1998 at 6:30 p.m. Kathleen requested in lieu of flowers you make a gift to someone you know who is needy. Kelly -- Brooks B. Kelly, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998. He is survived by his brother, Jarrett Kelly of Charleston, WV; and sister, Genevieve Daugherty Brooks of Elk View, WV and Zelda Litton of Charleston, WV. He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Kelly in December 1992. He was a residence of Placitas for about 30 years. Mr. Kelly was a member of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church. Kinney -- Alanson"Al" Ira Kinney, 80, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 21 years, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 1998. Al was born August 10, 1917, the son of Ira N. and Lola Mathias Kinney in Pena, Illinois. Al and the former Betty Packard were married on June 3, 1944 in Syracuse, New York. Al and Betty came to New Mexico from Germany. Al had attended Grove City College in Grove City, PA. He was a Thirty Second Degree Mason with the Masonic Lodge of New York, member of the Rio Rancho Rotary Club, had served on the Executive Board of Directors of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, was very active in the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, had been elected to the Balloon"Hall of Fame". Al was the owner/operator of Sandy's Sundown and Sandy's Hallmark shops. Al is survived by his wife, Betty of Albuquerque; daughter, Sandy Kinney and husband, Mike Sugg of Dallas,TX. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 10, 1998, 2:00 p.m., at the Paradise Hills Methodist Church, 4700 Paradise Hills Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, with the Rev. Charles Bader officiating. Lovett -- Lillian L. Lovett, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for 60 years, is at home with Jesus. She passed away on Monday, July 6, 1998 at home with her loved ones by her side. She is survived by her daughter, LaDonna Lavallee and husband, Norm of Albuquerque; grandsons, Dean Lavallee of Brazil and Dustin Lavallee of Albuquerque; sister, Geneva Newcum and husband, Curtis; nephew, Buck Newcum of Midland, TX; and several other nephews, nieces and friends. Mrs. Lovett was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Lovett. Lillian was born on Saturday, May 3, 1913, in Marion, Michigan, and raised in Oklahoma. She was retired from Albuquerque Public Schools. Her most favorite and loved pastime was fishing. Luhn -- Graham H."Bert" Luhn, 76, passed away at a local hospital after a short illness on July 1, 1998. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; and a son, George. He is survived by his sons, Rod of Norfolk, VA, Evan Ryan of the family home in Bosque Farms, and Edward of Pasadena, CA; a sister, Nellie Currarino of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Paige, Justin Ryan, Brittany Ann, and Gregory; and several nephews and nieces. A resident of New Mexico since 1957, he retired from General Electric in 1990, being honored for 23 years of perfect job attendance. Bert was a dear friend to all who knew him. Cremation will be with the Sunrise Society of New Mexico, and his remains will be interred at the National Cemetary in Santa Fe alongside his wife. No services will be scheduled. Montoya -- Pete Montoya, 69, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 4, 1998. He was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Montoya. Pete is survived by his wife, Deluvina Montoya, also of Albuquerque; two sisters, Thomasita and Francis of California; sons, Richard Jinzo and wife, Rosie, Max Montoya, Pete J. Montoya; daughters, Linda Tachia and husband, Arnold, Theresa Serna and Dolores Montoya, all of Albuquerque, Maxine Biddix and husband, Arnold of Washington; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Pete was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and Post 69. He coached baseball, softball, and basketball for 20 years. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Alameda. Roybal -- Christopher Glenn Roybal, 26, passed away July 4, 1998. Born April 11, 1972 in Albuquerque. Survived by mother, E. Yolanda M. Sandoval -- Emma E. Sandoval, born January 16, 1909, Cuba, NM, died July 2, 1998, Albuquerque. She is survived by her husband, Abel P. Sandoval; a daughter, Hazel Weitkamp and her husband, Dr. Raymond Weitkamp; daughter, Velma Juergens and husband, Chuck Juergens; son, Dr. Phillip Martinez and fiancee, Erin Morrisey; son, Lee Martinez and wife, Sue Martinez. She is also survived by former daughter-in-law, Carolyn Martinez; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Carmelita Montano and Ida Valdez; and brothers, Max and Alex Eichwald. She worked for many years alongside her first husband, Rev. Uvaldo J. Martinez in the field of Presbyterian missions. Following Rev. Martinez's death she had a long and happy marriage to Abel P. Sandoval who survives her. A memorial celebration of her life will take place Saturday, July 11, 10:30 a.m., at Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith Blvd. NE, Rev. Anthony Chavez presiding. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, as well as reunions with the 823 Battalion. Steele -- Jimmie Dean Steele, age 54, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died July 7, 1998. He is survived by his wife, C. Marie Steele; four daughters, Royce, Claire, Vickie and Julie; one sister, Marvelyn Samuelson of Las Vegas, NV; son, Brian Spence; many friends and co-workers. He raced and was a member of modified Midgets of New Mexico for the last four years. Mr. Steele was retired from the APD after 20 years of service. He was a nine year contractor for the US Marshall Service. He will lie in state Friday, July 10, 1998, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Whitacre -- Bernice M. Whitacre, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, passed away on Monday, July 6, 1998. Bernice was the daughter of Joseph H. and Mabel Edick Stoker, she was born in Scipio, New York. She was a volunteer with the American Lung Assoc. for 18 years, a volunteer for the Bear Canyon Senior Center, previous member of the Duke City Race Walkers, Senior Olympic Champion swimmer since 1989, won a Gold Medal in 1995. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Richard T. Forrester; parents, Joseph and Mabel Stoker; brothers, Ernest and Edward Stoker; and sisters, Joan Stoker and Marion Gordon. Bernice is survived by her children, Richard J. Smith and wife, Sharon of Danville, CA, Brian V. Smith of Englewood, CO, Patricia M. Lupear and husband, Danny of Concord, CA, Maureen G. Forrester and husband, Terry of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Michael Kevin Smith and wife, Nora, Bridget Wellerstein and husband, David, Dawne Bernice Forrester, Terrence Erik Forrester (Erik); great-grandchildren, Walker Forrester, Christopher Medrano, Rosalind Smith, Samuel Smith, Adriana Marie Smith; sisters, Anita Bergerstock, Alice Minde, Mary Matanle, Isabelle Mason, and Nancy Goodnough. The service for Bernice will be held Saturday, July 11, 1998, 10:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, Albuquerque, with Rev. John Schwarting officiating. Interment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Lung Association of New Mexico or the Senior Olympics of New Mexico have been suggested.
