Serna -- Evangeline G. Serna, more familiar as Vangie, was born October 27, 1917 and left this life on May 18, 2001. Evangeline chose to spend the last several months with her immediate family, Beverlee S. and David M. Gard, Julie S. and William S. Steplowski and very special companion, Salsa. She enjoyed the company of very special loved ones, Joseph and Loredana Iannuzzo and Jude Baca. These special times with her loved ones were happy, warm and loving days, which were cut short by illness which occurred recently. Evangeline was a graduate of Albuquerque High School, a member of the Catholic Church and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. For the remainder of life's journey, she follows her husband, Julian A. Serna. She is also survived by her brother and 3 sisters, Richard and Margaret Garcia, Virginia (Virgie) and Edward Moya, Elizabeth (Bessie) and Billy Moya, and Margaret Mares. Those preceding her were her parents, Raymond M. and Laura Garcia, and siblings, Vincent, Estella, Edward, Delia and O'Delia, Raymond, Claude, Viola and Isaac Mares and her beloved Ernest. Her career: Evangeline chose to devote her attention to her family and is best famed as Mother. Rosary will be recited by Deacon Bob Lewis, Monday at 3:00 p.m. at French Mortuary-Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd., NW, 3 Blocks N. of Paseo Del Norte. A Mariachi funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, with Father Thai Tran, S.S.S., Celebrant. Pallbearers will be Chris Moya, Jude Baca, Raphael Gutierrez, Tommie Tapia, Tom Romero, and Leonard Garcia. No food, please, lots of flowers, Mother loved flowers!
