Hughes -- Elsie Lucille (Lou) Hughes, 73, loving wife, mother, grandmother, Great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, has been called home by the Lord on Saturday, May 12, 2001. Lou was born in Vernon Township, Lake County, Illinois on July 27, 1927. She moved to Gillette, Wyoming as a small child and eventually resided in Sheridan, Wyoming for most of her life. She married Eugene A. Hughes on July 26, 1954. They moved to Long Beach, CA in 1969 and then to Albuquerque, NM in 1974 where she sold Real Estate for a few years. She was a long-time employee of Murphy's Mule Barn as a cashier and manager. She is survived by her loving husband, Eugene (Gene) Hughes; step-son, Eugene (Gene) Hughes of Great Falls, MT; daughter, Velma Edson and husband, Jerry of Idaho Falls, ID, daughter, Ruth Kho and husband, Robert of Corrales, NM, daughter, Doris Drennan and husband, Larry of Albuquerque, NM, daughter, Delores (Zip) Ashby and husband, Ray of Sophia, NC; 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, June Ward of Alton, IL. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho with Graveside services immediately following. Jerry Edson and Demille Kirkpatrick officiating. Friends and loved ones are invited to share a meal and fellowship at the family home following services. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to the Presbyterian Hospice, 8300 Constitution Av. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
