Seidler -- Helen Bert Seidler, of Albuquerque, a well-known New Mexico artist, passed away on July 13, 2001. Mrs. Seidler was born on June 9, 1919, on a farm in Buckeye Township, Kansas, to Michael and Cora Bert. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Armond Seidler; three children, Todd and Toni Seidler, both of Albuquerque, and Kim Seidler, of Chico CA; a grandson, Nolan Armond Seidler of Albuquerque; and a sister, Lois Bert Engemann, of Chicago Heights, Illinois. After Mrs. Seidlers family moved to Chicago, she earned a scholarship to the Chicago Art Institute at the age of 15. She subsequently attended the American College of Physical Education in Chicago, where she met her future husband, and graduated with bachelors and masters degrees in education from the University of Illinois. Mrs. Seidler was married in 1944 by a blind justice of the peace in Champaign, Illinois. While living in Washington, Iowa, where her husband, Armond was a high school football and basketball coach, she established and operated a successful photographic portrait studio. When her husband went to the University of Illinois as a graduate student and then faculty member, she supplemented the family income by doing photographic retouching. In 1955, Mrs. Seidler and her family moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico, and in 1957 to Albuquerque. Turning once again to art, she became a successful painter, with pieces hanging in many Southwestern homes. A significant loss of vision in both eyes finally made her lay down her brush. Even though Mrs. Seidlers greatest single interest was in art, she was no less a devoted and loving wife and mother whose family misses her intensely. A Memorial for Helen Seidler will be held on Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at the family home in Albuquerque.
