Tafoya -- Clarence Cortez Tafoya, 74, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at Doctors Hospital. He was born December 1, 1926. He was a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico who had lived in Modesto for 2 years. Clarance served in the US Navy for 36 years, most of them in the reserves retiring as PNC. He worked as a teacher in the Fremont Unified School from 1959 to 1970, went to the New Haven Unified School District as a counselor from 1970 to 1971 and then became an Assistant Principal until retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont, CA, the Elks Lodge 2121 in Fremont and the Albuquerque, New Mexico American Legion Post #99. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peg) Tafoya; children, Andre Tafoya of Concord, CA, John Tafoya of Auburn, CA and Thomas (Zeke) Tafoya of Auburn, CA; stepchildren, Stephanie Lutes of Fremont, CA, Victoria Commons of San Jose, CA and Kellie Edwards of Modesto, CA; brother, Richard (Dickie) Tafoya of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister, Julia Hendren of Albuquerque, New Mexico and six grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4211 Carol Ave., Fremont, CA 95438. Remembrances may be made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1813, Fremont, CA 95438; and the American Heart Association, Attn Memorial Card Service, 1710 Gilbreth Road, Burlingame, CA 94010. Evins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
