Gaunt -- David Arthur Gaunt died at 87 years old on July 4, 2001 after a brief illness. Born September 23, 1913 to Edward Lee and Faye Davison Gaunt, he was one of ten children and is survived by brothers, Mark Gaunt and wife Louise, Richard"Bill" Gaunt and wife, Ina; sister, Bonnie Bryan and husband, Ed; sisters-in-law, Mary Gaunt and Glendora Gaunt. His wife, Ruth, preceded him in death in 1998. Their children are Cynthia Hanna, Sharon Shipp and husband, Jim, Marsha Verploegh and John Farmer, David Edward Gaunt, and Deborah Carroll and husband, Mark. Grandchildren are Donna Fowler and her husband, Billy, John Shipp and his wife, Teresa, Anita Duffey and her husband, Charlie, Dawn Farmer Johnson, Tracy Carroll, Andy Carroll, and Dale Hanna. Great-grandchildren are Chris Fowler and his wife, Maria, Joshua Fowler, Taya Fowler, Elia Fowler, Marcus Duffey and Iain Shipp. Great-great grandchild is McKenzie Fowler. Dave was born in Bluffton, Indiana. In his youth he played baseball on an amateur team, learned to play the piano by ear from his mother and learned to play the guitar, sang on the radio with the Hoosier Hot Shots. His occupation through most of his adult life was in real estate. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1946 and during the 50's he owned Heights Nursery and was the originator of Desert Greet Fertilizer. In his retirement he made jewelry, played the guitar and piano, harmonized in song with his family, traveled abroad, wrote books and gardened, winning a City of Albuquerque award for the unique landscape of his home. He taught his gardening skills to his grandchildren, played horseshoes, pool, and card games. The love and affection of his family will live on and he knew God's love throughout his life. A celebration of his life will be held at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106 on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at 10:00 a.m.
