Gardner -- Melvin Ray Gardner, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, died Saturday, December 30, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Connie Gardner of Albuquerque; brother, Leland Gardner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by his father, Allan H. Gardner of Phoenix, AZ; and mother, Julia Wells Rogers of San Diego, CA. Melvin attended Stanford University and he was a business graduate of the University of Denver. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1997 as a contract specialist from the Albuquerque Office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He was a member of the Navajo Nation, who spent many years on the Navajo Reservation. He was administrator for the Sage Memorial Hospital at Ganado, AZ, and Executive Director of the Navajo Housing Authority at Window Rock, AZ. Private services were held.
