Ball -- Helen F. Malott Ball. Funerals Services will be held on Friday, June 29, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church for Helen F. Ball, who died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Dr. Spiller Milton, Pastor, First United Methodist Church will officiate the Service. Interment will be in the Lafayette Protestant Cemetery. Mrs. Ball was a native of Port Arthur, Texas, the daughter of the late Morton Raymond Malott and the former Edna Lenhardt both natives of Kansas. She was a resident of Rosewood Assisted Living Community for the past 2 1/2 years. Mrs. Ball will be deeply missed. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was devoted to her faith and to other people. She was an active officer in the Salvation Army for 46 years retiring with the rank of brigadier. Her career in the Salvation Army began in 1933 when she attended Training College in Atlanta, GA. In 1935, she became cashier and bookkeeper for Susan Speed Home & Hospital in Louisville, KY. On June 9, 1937, she married Robert Ball in Louisville, KY. In 1940, she was assigned to U.S.O. as Club Organizer. In 1974, she was appointed Director of First Senior Citizen's Residence in the Southern Territory in Fort Worth, TX. In 1970, she was with the Texas Divisional Band until her retirement in 1979. She attended Bringle Institute and National Congress on Evangelism. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Robert S. Ball of Lafayette; one daughter, Phyllis Gautreaux and husband, Al of Lafayette, LA; one son, Robert E. Ball and wife, Shelia of Chama, NM; two sisters, Pearl Holmes of Colorado Springs, CO and Evangeline Evans and husband, Don of Bryant, AR; one brother, Roy Malott and wife, Thelma of Whilmington, NC; six grandchildren, Robin Dismore, Michael Wike, Catherine Cantu, James Ball, Slade Ball, and Frank Loyd; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Wike, Kali-Michael Wike, Shane Dismore, Michaela Dismore, Ashley Cantu, and Kelsey Cantu. She was preceded in death by her parents; one great-granddaughter, Naomi Joy Dismore; and one sister, Fern Gildea. Visiting hours will be observed at the funeral home on Thursday, June 28, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and at First United Methodist on Friday, June 29, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Pallbearers will be Danny Long, Hank Cantu, Michael Wike, Nicol Hannie, Wilton Felix, and Dr. Carl Frantz.
