Ball -- Helen F. Malott Ball. Funerals Services will be held on Friday, June 29, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church for Helen F. Ball, who died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Dr. Spiller Milton, Pastor, First United Methodist Church will officiate the Service. Interment will be in the Lafayette Protestant Cemetery. Mrs. Ball was a native of Port Arthur, Texas, the daughter of the late Morton Raymond Malott and the former Edna Lenhardt both natives of Kansas. She was a resident of Rosewood Assisted Living Community for the past 2 1/2 years. Mrs. Ball will be deeply missed. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was devoted to her faith and to other people. She was an active officer in the Salvation Army for 46 years retiring with the rank of brigadier. Her career in the Salvation Army began in 1933 when she attended Training College in Atlanta, GA. In 1935, she became cashier and bookkeeper for Susan Speed Home & Hospital in Louisville, KY. On June 9, 1937, she married Robert Ball in Louisville, KY. In 1940, she was assigned to U.S.O. as Club Organizer. In 1974, she was appointed Director of First Senior Citizen's Residence in the Southern Territory in Fort Worth, TX. In 1970, she was with the Texas Divisional Band until her retirement in 1979. She attended Bringle Institute and National Congress on Evangelism. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Robert S. Ball of Lafayette; one daughter, Phyllis Gautreaux and husband, Al of Lafayette, LA; one son, Robert E. Ball and wife, Shelia of Chama, NM; two sisters, Pearl Holmes of Colorado Springs, CO and Evangeline Evans and husband, Don of Bryant, AR; one brother, Roy Malott and wife, Thelma of Whilmington, NC; six grandchildren, Robin Dismore, Michael Wike, Catherine Cantu, James Ball, Slade Ball, and Frank Loyd; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Wike, Kali-Michael Wike, Shane Dismore, Michaela Dismore, Ashley Cantu, and Kelsey Cantu. She was preceded in death by her parents; one great-granddaughter, Naomi Joy Dismore; and one sister, Fern Gildea. Visiting hours will be observed at the funeral home on Thursday, June 28, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and at First United Methodist on Friday, June 29, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Boren -- Joe Sam Boren, 84, passed away Monday, June 25, 2001. He is survived by his loving wife, Emily Boren; daughter, Linda G. Boren; son, Sam J. Boren and wife, Dorothy; grandchildren, Sam Christopher Boren and wife, Michele and Stacy Mitchell and husband, Miles; and great-grandchildren, Christopher and Cassie Boren and Chance Mitchell. Sam was born May 14, 1917 to Willie and Thena Corley Boren in Paris, TX. Sam moved to Albuquerque in 1936 and was employed by The Oden Motor Co. He married Emily in 1939. In 1945, he started his own business on East Central Avenue and was a very successful tire dealer and was respected for his honesty and integrity. Sam was a member of Central United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was past member of 20-30 Club, the optimist Club and Better Business Bureau. Sam volunteered his help in many civic projects. He will be missed. Services will be held Thursday, June 28, 2001, 10:00 a.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper Ave. NE, with Rev. Marty Singleterry officiating. Harrison -- Charlie O. Harrison, 75, passed away on June 24, 2001. He was preceded by his loving wife of 42 years, Corine Harrison; and his brother, Ray Harrison of Pueblo Colorado. A devoted father and grandpa, he is survived by his daughters, Virginia Harrison, Jeanette Torres and husband, Danny, Loretta Gurule and husband, Al; grandchildren, Robert Sanchez and wife, Stella, Melissa Garcia and husband, Tom, Kimberly and Kevin Torres, Jennifer Harrison, Alisha, Dominic, Matthew and Avery Gurule; great-grandchildren, Amanda and James Garcia, Alisia and Steven Sanchez; sister-in-law, Sophie Harrison from Pueblo Colorado; brothers, Arthur Harrison and wife, Martha, Albert Harrison and wife, Rosie; sister, Linda Ortiz and husband, Pete; and five other brothers and sisters. Charlie was a proud World War II Veteran that served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He is also a member of the American Legion. He retired after working for 40 years as a manager with Sherwin Williams Paint Store. Charlie was a very devoted Catholic at the Nativity Church where he enjoyed serving as an usher for many years. The family would like to thank the staff of Casa Maria Alzheimer Center for the many years of loving care and Presbyterian Hospice staff for their kindness and devotion in his time of need. Learsch -- Louis Herman Martin Learsch, 77, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, June 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Learsch of Albuquerque; nephew, Robert C. Learsch of Boise, ID; niece, Liesa Denardo of Oakland, NJ; and four great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Calvin Learsch. Mr. Learsch was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Cornerstone-Tyrian Masonic Lodge in Linden, NJ; the Valley of Trenton Scottish Rite, New Jersey; and the Ballut Abyad Temple in Albuquerque. Loy -- Arthur Edson Loy, 87, a resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, June 22, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Henrietta Loy of the family home; children, Laura Loy Dennison of Centennial, CO and husband, Dan Dennison and David Edson Loy of Fremont, CA and wife, Laura Morgan Loy; grandchildren, Fletcher Dennison, Benjamin Loy and Rebecca Loy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Edson Loy and Helen Opperman. Arthur came to Albuquerque in 1930. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1932, received his B. Ed. at the University of New Mexico in 1938, and his Mastersť in musicology at Berkeley in 1949. Arthur served in the Army during World War II. He taught for 39 years in the Albuquerque Public Schools at Washington and Jefferson Junior High Schools, and at Highland High School, where he was chairman of the fine arts department and taught humanities, choral music and music theory. He retired in 1977. Very active in Albuquerque music circles, he had been a member of the boards of the June Music Festival, Albuquerque Symphony, and KHFM. He was a founding member and original program director of this classical music radio station in 1953. He had a deep appreciation for nature and the environment, taking many photographs to support the establishment of wilderness areas in New Mexico. In addition, he used his skills as a photographer to create a complete, statewide pictorial archive of historic and contemporary churches. He also delighted in writing poetry and satirical articles. Arthur enjoyed camping, picnicking and hiking. With a good friend and hiking companion, he discovered in 1979 the fossilized remains of a new species of dinosaur, seismosaurus (the longest dinosaur ever discovered) that is on display at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2001, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, Claremont and Vermont Streets, with reception following at the Loyťs residence. Lujan -- A very special person, Daniel Anthony Lujan, who had a great heart, a great mind, and a beautiful soul, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2001. Beloved Daniel was born on May 8, 1983 in Albuquerque, NM and later moved to Los Lunas in 1993 with his parents, Daniel and Lorraine Lujan. Daniel was the oldest of his brothers, Jonathan and Jason Lujan. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Antonio Lujan. Daniel is survived by his parents; brothers; grandparents, Silviano and Leonila Mora and grandmother, Estella Lujan, all of Albuquerque. He is also remembered by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Daniel will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him, may he rest in peace. Lujan -- Lucinda (Cindy) Duncan Lujan, a resident of Albuquerque, passed into her heavenly home on June 26, 2001. She was born to Lydia and Nathaniel Duncan in Stillwell, OK on November 8, 1917. Mrs. Lujan is survived by her sister, Beulah Duncan Paisano and husband, U.G.; sister-in-law, Julie Poncho of Richmond, CA; nieces, Merle-Dean Paisano Sanchez and husband, Joseph and Cheryl Jean Paisano; nephew, Evans Ray; great-niece and goddaughter, DťAnza Sanchez Mummert and husband, Ryan, all of Albuquerque; and great-nephew, Dr. Damion P. Sanchez of Seattle, WA. She is also survived by her loving canine companion, Pug. Mrs. Lujan was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 46 years, Paul Lujan; and her sister, Marquerite Duncan Ray. In 1925 the family of Mrs. Lujan moved from Oklahoma to Clovis, NM. In 1932 she and her family moved to Albuquerque. Mrs. Lujan attended the Albuquerque Indian School. She graduated from the Sherman Indian Institute in Riverside, CA. Mrs. Lujan was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She served as the head cook and dietician at the Albuquerque Indian School until her retirement in 1973. Mrs. Lujan was a member of the Albuquerque Cherokee Club. She was a Christian lady who deeply loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Mrs. Lujan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Albuquerque. Services will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m., at Chester T. Martin -- Ernest O'dell Martin, 77, who resided in Albuquerque for over 50 years, recently passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2001 in Stockton, California. Mr. Martin ran the shoe shine stand in the Hilton Hotel. Mattson -- John Benhard Mattson, Jr., 70, an Industrial Engineer at the Postal Rate Commission from 1976 until his retirement in 2000, died of a heart attack on June 22, 2001 at his home in Rockville, Md. Mr. Mattson, a native of Newton, Mass., received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master of Science Degree from the University of New Mexico, and Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1962. A member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity, he served as a lst Lieutenant in the U. S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and later worked for ACF Industries in Albuquerque, N.M., his adopted state, where he also served two terms as a Republican legislator for District 14. In 1968, Mr. Mattson co-founded Mecca Computer Systems, Inc., and served as its president until relocating to the Washington, D.C., area in 1976. Mr. Mattson was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Rockville where he participated in the"Russia Initiative" of the UM Volunteers-in-Mission program, participating in reconstruction and social outreach work trips to Vladimir, Russia, as well as Christmas in April and other community activities. Survivors include Nancy Wilburn Mattson, his wife of 42 years; three sons, John Edward, Thomas Michael, (Angela Livers) and Robert Wilburn, (Marvionni); and five grandchildren, Micailya, Alexzondra, Darius, Mackenzie, and Nicholas; he is also survived by one brother, Melvin Mattson (Christa); and two sisters, Muriel Kulow (Frederick) and Lynne Knauss (John). The family will receive friends at Pumphrey's Funeral Home, 300 West Montgomery Avenue, Rockville, MD. on Tuesday, June 26, 2001 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Faith United Methodist Church in Rockville, Md., at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2001. Mcdowell -- Dorothy S. McDowell, born July 5, 1915, passed away at home in El Paso, TX on Saturday, June 23, 2001. Mrs. McDowell was a 60-year resident of Albuquerque prior to moving to El Paso, TX. Her husband, L.E. McDowell; son, David L. McDowell; and daughter, Mary Lou Roady preceded Mrs. McDowell in death. She is survived by her sons, Guy Allen McDowell of Corrales and William J. Orozco -- Mr. David A. Orozco, 64, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully at home on June 26 , 2001 and is now in heaven with our Lord. Mr. Orozco, is the beloved husband to Louise Orozco and her son, Bobby Chavez; four daughters, Germaine Otero and husband, Jerry, Monica Orozco-Duran, Stephanie Abeyta and Dezi, Michele Ortega and Paul; two sons, Domonic Orozco and wife, Tina and Pasqual Orozco and wife, Judith; four sisters, Rosemary Dennis and husband, Robert, Grace Gurule, Stella Murphy and husband, John and Patsy Felix; very blessed to have 21 1/2 grandchildren, Domonic, Kristin, Melissa, Justine, Christopher, Nathan, Jude, Brittany, Nicholas, Manuel, Cera, Santana, Cheyenne, Dezi, Anthony , David, Nico, Marissa, Paul, Cody and Zane; his first great grandson, Rudy. Parkins -- Willard Parkins, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1992, died on Saturday, June 23, 2001. He is survived by his daughters, Suzann Kisiel and husband, Walter of Albuquerque and Kay Kovacs and husband, George of Irwin, PA; granddaughters, Karen Kovacs and Kimberly Kovacs of Philadelphia and Katherine Kisiel of Austin, TX; grandson, Kevin Kisiel of Ann Arbor, MI; his loving companion of nine years, Barbara Steinberg of Albuquerque; brothers, Don Parkins and wife, Shirley of Stuart, FL and Bud Parkins and wife, Betty of McMurray, PA; and sister, Thelma Hallam of Indiana. Willard was a very avid golfer who loved to play at Los Altos and had several hole-in-ones during his lifetime. He also enjoyed playing bridge and woodworking. Spilca -- Mihai Spilca, 48, a resident of Belen for 20 years, died Sunday, June 17, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Elena Spilca; son, Mihai Spilca; daughters, Mihaela Spilca and Marica Stefan and husband, Adrian; granddaughter, Adina Stefan; mother, Maria Spilca; brothers, Nicolae Spilca and family and Ilie Spilca and family, all of Belen. Services will be held Thursday, 3:00 p.m., at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 308 High SE, with Father Mario Giannopoulos officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with a reception to follow at the church. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Wednesday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Westfahl -- Everett L. Westfahl, 69, of Albuquerque passed away peacefully in his sleep at 12:35 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2001 at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital Hospice Unit in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after a five-year battle with prostate cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Ruby Westfahl; and his older brother, Paul Westfahl all of Haven, KS; and his third and fourth wives,Sandra Stepleton and Chris McCrea Westfahl of Albuquerque, NM. He is survived by his oldest brother, Fred Westfahl and his wife, Ronnie of Kinsley, KS; their children, Kathy Rishel, Randy Westfahl, Rock Westfahl and their spouses and children; his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Westfahl of Haven, KS; and her children, Kenny Westfahl, Peggy Thompson, Arlene Bontrager, and Diane Goldberg and their spouses and children; his first and second wives, Marilyn J. Peirce of Hutchinson, KS and Nancy H. Thoman of Seminole, FL; his daughter, Ann Kroll and her husband, Paul of Albuquerque, NM; and his step-children, Pam Gross and her husband, Steve; and their children, Nesbit, MS, Chuck McCrea, his children and his wife, Shelley, Mark McCrea and his wife, Alice and their children; and Marc Salter and his wife, Shanna, all of Albuquerque, NM. Everett Westfahl was born in Hutchinson, KS on January 28, 1932 and he grew up on the Westfahl family farm near Haven, Kansas. He graduated from Haven High School in 1949. He attended Hutchinson Junior College and Kansas State University, graduating from Kansas State University in 1955 with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. He accepted a position on the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories in 1955. He left Sandia National Laboratories in 1973 and became an Electronic Sales Representative with Barnhill and Associates in 1973, before joining Aztec Enterprises in 1974. He later formed his owned electronic sales organization, Westfahl and Associates in 1985. He retired from full time sales at Westfahl and Associates in 1995. He enjoyed many years of serving his numerous customers throughout the states of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and Colorado. He also enjoyed serving four years as president of the ISE, which conducted annual electronic trade shows in Albuquerque. A Memorial Service for Everett Westfahl will be held on Monday, July 2, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. N.E., with Pastor Dale Bauer, Dr. Ralph Friedenberg, and Dave Smoker, officiating. Private interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd N.E. Guests will be received at the home of Chuck and Shelley McCrea after the Memorial Service. We would like to thank the numerous doctors and nurses who provided Everett with dedicated and quality care, including Doctors Ralph Friedenberg, Neil Kaminsky, Richard Giudice, Amanda Story, Clifford Evans, Jonathan Lackner, William Thompson, Jr., and Paul Anthony. We would also like to thank his Prostate Cancer Support Group at Bear Canyon Senior Center, especially Lyle Ware. Everett would like to say a special thank you to his friends Bob and Betty Rader, Bob Rader, Jr., Noel Gantick, Dorothy and Paul Johnson of Seattle, WA, and his former Sandia co-workers, Ed and Shirley Jacobs, and Bill and Leora Riggan for their support and encouragement. His daughter Ann and her husband Paul would especially like to thank Nancy Thoman, Merle Anderson, and Dorothy Kassa for their loving support and care of Dad during his long illness.
