Wright -- Hildred Margaret Nelson Wright, 96, a resident of Albuquerque for four years, died Tuesday, January 21, 2003. She is survived by her sons, H.W. Wright, Jr., attorney, and wife, Roberta of Bedford, TX, Col. James N. Hale U.S. Army (Ret.) of Phoenix, AZ and Jackson Bonnell Wright, attorney, of Albuquerque; daughter, Jill Wright-Boyd, author and husband, Anthony of Los Angeles, CA; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Alberta Bailey of Shreveport, LA, and Frances Stanley of Jet, OK. Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband, H.W. Wright Sr., pioneering Attorney, County Judge and State Senator. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Hemmon; and sister, Doris Burkey. Born in a farm residence in Jet, OK in 1906, this remarkable woman lived the whole 20th Century. She graduated from Secretarial School in the 1920's, founded what is now Guarantee Abstract Company in Cherokee, OK, in the 1930's and ran it through the 1940's. She was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention twice, in 1936 and 1964. She wrote and published poetry and was listed in Who's Who of American Poets. She was an honored poet of the Poetry Society of Oklahoma and was the Poet Laureate of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, President of the Democratic Women's Club of Oklahoma, State President of Kappa Sigma Fraternity Mothers Club and a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. She was also a songwriter and her song"Oklahoma Lullaby" was on the official Centennial Album of the Cherokee Strip Land Run, 1993. She owned her own accounting firm and worked through 1987 as a Certified Accountant. She was working on a book of her memoirs,"Angel Wings" with her son, Jackson Wright, when she died. Cremation has taken place and her memorial service will be held in the United Methodist Church, in Cherokee, Oklahoma, February 1st, at 2:00 p.m.
