Emarine -- Mare (Mary) A. Emarine, 63, a resident of Albuquerque forť 26 years, died March 8, 2003 at the family home, after an extraordinarily courageous five year battle against ovarian cancer. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Larry Emarine; sons, Jeffrey Emarine and wife, Laura of Carlsbad, NM, Michael Emarine and wife, Tracey of Silver City, NM; and grandchildren, Chelsea, Joshua, and Hannah. She was preceded in death by her mother, Adele Karolin and her grandmother, Pauline Krabu. Mare was born on May 9, 1939 in Tallin, Estonia. Mare, her mother and grandmother survived the German and Russian invasions and occupation of Estonia during WWII only to be deported to Germany. In Germany, they were placed in a concentration camp where Mare's mother was a forced Laborer in a Nazi Defense Factory. In 1945, the U.S. Army liberated the family. In 1949, they emigrated to the U.S. and settled in San Pedro, CA. The family arrived in the U.S. with two suitcases, a knapsack containing bedding and Mare's Teddy Bear. Mare resided in San Pedro until 1965 when she and Larry married. She attended San Pedro High School and Long Beach State University. Prior to being married, she worked at the Los Angeles County City Attorney's Office in San Pedro. Mare was a dedicated military wife from 1965 to 1988 while her husband was in the U.S. Navy. They were stationed in Long Beach, CA, Yokosuka, Japan, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Washington DC, and Albuquerque, NM. Mare was an Avon Sales representative for 15 years and loved the job primarily because many of her customers became good friends over the years. Some of her favorite activities were reading, music, plays, gourmet cooking, lunches with friends, and spending time with her sons and their families. Mare loved her many friends from her garden club, water aerobics class, and her neighborhood. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who raised two wonderful and successful sons. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and administrative personnel of the UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center, UNM Hospital, and University Hospice for their outstanding care, compassion and assistance during Mare's struggle with cancer. Services will be held Thursday, March 13, 2003, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles, Col. USAF. (Ret). Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, one hour prior to service. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500
