Mellenbrook -- Norman A."Doc" Mellenbrook, 97, of io Rancho, NM, died Thursday, March 13, 2003 in Albuquerque. Cremation arrangements were handled by Sunrise Funeral Options. No services are planned. Dr. Mellenbrook was born April 7, 1905 in Cleveland, Ohio, the only son of John and Elsie Mellenbrook. He graduated from Hiram College and received his optometric degree from Northern Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Mellenbrook was first associated with Kalal Optical Co. of Cleveland. He later had his own optometric practice in Ashland, Ohio, for many years. He and his wife retired to New Mexico in 1967."Doc" Mellenbrook lived briefly in Tombstone, AZ, then returned to Rio Rancho, NM around 1990. He was an active member of the Meadowlark Senior Center in Rio Rancho until he gave up driving in April 2002. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge. Dr. Mellenbrook is survived by his daughter, Kay Watts of San Diego, CA; his son-in-law, Gene; his grandson, Sgt. Eugene Watts, Jr.; his granddaughter, Donna, and two nieces.
