Tate -- Barbara Jean Metten Larsen Tate, age 75, joined her precious Lord Jesus on Monday, 03-03-03, (March 3, 2003). She is remembered as a gentle and benevolent woman who was a great friend and a joyful role model to her children and grandchildren. Barbara had a unique ice cream smile and exceptional blue eyes. She was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos, New Mexico where for many years she was an Eucharistic Minister. She also volunteered at the Los Alamos Medical Center. She loved to be out of doors belonging to the hiking group the Wednesday Wanderers for about 30 years. With this group and her husband Gene Tate hikes were completed in New Mexico, other areas of the United States, Europe and South America. She also loved to ski, both downhill and cross-country and ride her bicycle. Two memorable bicycle rides were down a steep and winding road in the Jemez Mountains in New Mexico and up Wolf Creek Pass in Colorado. She was an intrepid bridge player with a no-trump specialty. She loved to take college classes, collect rocks and was a graceful, happy dancer. Once her children began college she began working at the Mesa Public Library in Los Alamos. She is remembered as a cheerful woman who loved life, who like a delicate sound of thunder was a mighty prayer warrior for Jesus and as a mother who loved her children. She is preceded in death by both of her husbands, Donald Larson and Eugene Tate and her two brothers Chester and Richard Metten. She is survived by her children, Claire O'Brien of Woodbridge, V A, Kathleen Larson of Torrance, CA, Glenn Larson of La Cueva, NM, Karen Light of Braidwood, IL, Rebecca Baser of Belen, NM, Eric Larson of Cerro Los Pinos, NM, Braddon Larson of Basalt, CO, Curt Larson of Aspen, CO, her 11 grandchildren, one great grandson and one sister Joan Scholl of IL. We, the children of Barbara Tate, would like to acknowledge the care and compassion that was shown our mother by Dr. William Summers, Westwind Assisted Living Facility, where she was known as Barbie Doll, Quality Continuum Hospice, and the Westside Foursquare Church. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2003, at 11:00AM, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Los Alamos, NM. Internment will be at Guaje Pines Cemetery , Los Alamos, NM.
