Means -- Betty Lou Means passed away on May 2, 2003, after a six-month battle with cancer. She was born in Connellsville, PA on November 18, 1927. Betty earned several undergraduate and post-graduate degrees culminating with a Masters degree from California State Teachers College of Pennsylvania. She was a teacher for over 30 years with the Pittsburgh, PA and Albuquerque, NM public school systems. She was a leader among her peers, earning recognition as a Master Teacher in 1982 with the Albuquerque Public School system. After her retirement in 1984, she remained active with several charity organizations, most notable the Daughters of the Nile. She is survived by her two brothers; CDA McCoy of Oregon and Robert P. McCoy of Massachusetts; son, Donald C. Means of New Orleans, LA; daughter, Carole Moran of New York City; and four grandsons, Maxwell Means, Dylan Means, Palmer Means and Gregory Moran; and many dear friends. Betty's remains will be placed next to her husband, who preceded her in death in 1995, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. There will be a reception in her honor at the Vineyard Retirement Community Center, 6118 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2003.
