Witman -- Adam Witman, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died Friday, July 25, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maria; sister, Mary Hertzog and her children, Maria and Jim; sister-in-law, Rita Clapper; brother-in-law, Donald Proctor; as well as many nieces and nephews. As a boy of eight years, Adam worked for a Quaker family for board and keep and attended school in Bernville, PA. Earning money for his first bicycle, he rode to his sister, Mary s home near Allentown, PA a distance of 90 miles. On December 29, 1941, Adam joined the US Army, served at Ft. Mead, MD, then transferred to New York where he married his wife, Maria. He was sent to North Africa, served in southern France, Naples, Italy and Germany. Adam served in a CCC camp in the Blue Mountains near Blair, PA. Another enlistment found Adam in the Korean War, as well as, the occupation of Japan. Sgt. Adam has been awarded several metals, decorations and awards for outstanding service to his country. A veteran of 14 years, Adam Witman, Jr. served his country well and with honor. After his discharge, Adam and Maria returned to Bethleham, PA his hometown. In 1956, they moved to Albuquerque where he worked for Prices Dairies and Burnes Guard. Memorial services will be held Monday, August 4, 11:00 a.m., at Albuquerque Regional Medical Center Chapel (formerly St. Joseph Hospital), 601 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. NE, with Father Chris O'Brien officiating.
