BEHRENS, INA RHEA 91, born November 25, 1923 in Wayne, OK, passed away December 26, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Robert L. Behrens, who passed in 1985. Born in Oklahoma, Ina Rhea was raised in Texas. She owned interest in a small aircraft at age 16, was a licensed pilot, and was accepted into the Women's Air Force Service Program. However, she did not get to fly with the WASPs, as WWII ended soon after her acceptance. Her interest in aviation led to meeting her husband, Bob, who, after a long career with the FAA in El Paso, was transferred to Albuquerque in 1968. While in Texas, Ina Rhea was extremely active in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She raised two children who kept her occupied with Boy Scouts and swim team. She also worked as a broker in real estate and sang with the Sweet Adeline's Enchanted Mesa group in Albuquerque for more than 20 years. Mom lived a vibrant and very full life; she never met a stranger and was a wonderful mother and friend. She is survived by her son, Robert L. Behrens, Jr. of Seabrook, Texas, her daughter, Melissa, and Melissa's husband, Fritz Blake, of Albuquerque; her nieces, Kay Houston, Gail Owens, and Patt McGarvey, and their families, and her sister-in-law, Ozella Snead all from out of state. She was very close to her brother-in-law, Paul Behrens, and his wife, Maureen (who were so supportive and caring in the passing of Bob) as well as their children, Beth Christal, P.D. Behrens, and Barbara Behrens all from Texas. Cremation has taken place, a private family graveside was held and a celebration of Ina Rhea's life will take place at a later time. Memorial contributions can be made in Ina Rhea's name to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the Four Hills Bee Hive Home, who provided such great care and served as Mom's second home and family. We would also like to thank Dr. Toby Palley, University of New Mexico, for her care over many years of Mom's life, Dr. Joy Lovette of Integrated Senior Health Care, who cared for her as well as us over the past few months of Mom's life, and Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice, who supported us in her final hours.
