ROMERO, ERNESTO J. HON. Our beloved dad, son, brother, and friend passed onto his Eternal Home on Saturday, July 27, 2014, after a long illness. Ernesto was an esteemed trial lawyer and judge, as well as an avid woodworker, fisherman, and outdoorsman who loved his family, his hobbies, and his ranch in Sandia Park. He is survived by his sons, Josh Romero & wife April Romero, his son Sean Romero; his grandchildren Mia Romero & Carter Romero; and his mom, Macedonia Romero, who he cherished. He is also survived by his sisters, Jo Ann Romero & husband David Goodnow, Sharon Lautenschleger and husband Steve Lautenschleger, Phyllis Zamorski and husband Mike Zamorski, and Marlene Romero. Ernesto is also survived by Dana-Hines Romero and Jean-Paul Romero, and his nephew Luke Waruszewski and nieces Rita Chalamidas & Julie Lautenschleger, along with many close friends and admirers. Ernesto was preceded in death by his father Julian J. Romero, daughter Megan Kristen Romero, and his niece Karen Louise Finley. Ernesto graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1968, and from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1971. He served in the United States Air Force where he was a Captain and later a Lieutenant, and he served as a Judge Advocate General. Following his education, Ernesto had a distinguished career as a board-certified civil trial attorney in private practice at The Romero Law Firm. He was later elected as a District Court Judge in Albuquerque in 2002, where he served with distinction until his retirement in 2009. Ernesto was a brilliant and accomplished man, but will be remembered most for his generosity to those less fortunate, and for his strong spirit. Friends may visit FRENCH-Wyoming Chapel on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. for viewing and rosary, with a reception to follow. Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 4, 2014, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 811 Guaymas Pl. N.E (Lomas and Tennessee).
