STEVENS, GEORGE FRANKLIN George went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2014. He was born to Franklin J. and Mabel G. Stevens on June 20, 1927. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Hilda Mae Harvey. George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Lucille Stevens and his children Cynthia Martz and husband Scott, Rebecca Knippel and husband Lawrence, Philip Stevens and wife Lenora; his nephew David Harvey and wife Dianna; sister-in-law Millie Dew; six grandchildren; and one great- granddaughter. George served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from UNM and UNM Law School, and was a practicing attorney for 57 years. As a longtime member of Albuquerque's First Baptist Church, he served for many years as a deacon and Bible study teacher. He also served on the Board of the New Mexico Baptist Foundation for 18 years and the Board of Noon Day Ministries for many years. George was an amazing husband, father and grandfather.He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, cycling, camping, fishing, and back packing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved his work as an attorney, and got tremendous joy from helping others. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Gentiva Hospice, and to Vince Herrera of Home Instead for their loving care. Vince, you are our angel.
