ARMIJO, RAUL Raul Armijo, beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away quietly at his home Saturday, April 5, 2014 to be with his Lord surrounded by family. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on September 19, 1922. Raul is survived by his loving wife Lucy Armijo; his son Ted Armijo and wife Mary; daughter Lydia Vogler; his son Tom Armijo and wife Tina; his daughter Pauline Armijo-Eaglin and husband Michael; and his special niece Mary Lou Hughes and husband Reggie. Raul's precious grandchildren are Lori, Melissa, Sonia, Vicki, Dianna, Victor, Manuel, Krystle, Ashley, David, Justin, Scott and Jeramy. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Alfredo B. Armijo, his mother Maria Armijo and sons Raymond and John Armijo. He was a Army veteran in World War II, a police officer with the Albuquerque Police department and a deputy with BCSO. Raul was also a motorcycle mechanic, salesman and owned a leather shop for many years called Armijo Leather Works. He was most proud to be a cast member of the movie Lonely Are the Brave with Kirk Douglas filmed in the Sandia Mountains in 1962. He had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, bowling, photography and wood working in his shop. He will be missed but forever in the thoughts of all who knew him. BENAVIDEZ, STEPHEN E. Age 55, Stephen unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Neva M. King of Albuquerque; mother, Eva M. Parker; children, Allison N. Parraz, Leslie S. Benavidez; grandchildren Dominic, Jude, Addison, and Ruby; siblings Bernadette Vadurro, Ben Benavidez, Annette Stephens, and Anthony Benavidez; many nieces, nephews and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Nap Benavidez and nephew; Michael Ortiz. Steve proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was a parishioner at Risen Savior Catholic Community and formerly a parishioner, lector, Eucharistic Minister, Scholarship Committee Member, and Youth Group Minister at Aquinas Newman Center. He was active in his profession as a Project Manager Team Leader for SW District, Trane, with an MM98 Mechanical Licensure. Steve was a former president of the NM Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers; member and scholarship chairman of ASHRAE; and served as a committee member at CNM. He selflessly donated 70+ gallons of blood in his lifetime to United Blood Services and during his military service. In addition, he gave one of his kidneys to his brother. Steve was a NAUI certified scuba diver since 1979. He was a competitive racquetball player, earning first place state titles in 2010 and 2011, and second place in 2013. He coached his two daughters in little league and coached/played competitive slow pitch softball, leading his team to an undefeated season (16-0). Always a loyal fan of the New Mexico Lobos Basketball team and the Dallas Cowboys, Steve loved sports throughout the years. He was passionate about many facets of life. Since the age of 13 he walked 30+ years to Santuario de Chimayo, a 26 mile pilgrimage. He was known for his infectious laugh and humor. He always lit up a room with his smile. His kind and generous nature made him a leader by example. Steve was a very intelligent man who loved to read. Always a gentleman, he never missed an opportunity to cherish his wife, Neva, and his love for her was evident to all. Being a grandfather meant the world to him. He was his grandson Dominic's role model and he never missed an opportunity to show his love and support. The legacy Steve leaves behind is an enduring love for his wife, family and friends. Rosary will be recited Thursday, April 10, 2014, 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH Wyoming. DOBSON, DAVID WAYNE Rio Rancho, New Mexico - David Wayne Dobson, 67, peacefully crossed over to the Lord at 9:32 PM, Sunday April 6, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM after a short but hard fought battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by family and his loving wife Lisa. David W. Dobson, the "Artful Dodger" was born January 28, 1947 in Decatur, IL, a son to Wayne and Mary Dobson, they preceded him in death. He married Lisa Tronset Dobson on May 15, 1980 in Milmine, IL, she survives. Also surviving are: Son, Seth D. Dobson and wife Kathleen Muldoon; Grandchildren, Genevieve M. Dobson and Gideon S. Dobson; Brother, Thomas E. Dobson; Sisters, Mary Patricia (John) Marker, Marcia K. (Gary) Burns; Sisters-in-Law, Gloria M. (Steve) Cotton, LaVerne D. He enjoyed growing up on the family farm and then truck driving before he established his business, Dobson Automotive Inc., which he ran for over 15 years. After moving to New Mexico Dave worked in Real Estate and Automotive Sales. He retired in 2008 and became an avid golfer which he enjoyed very much with his many golfing buddies in New Mexico. Dave had a great love of family and the last few years were focused on spending time with his grandchildren, visiting them in Vermont and New Mexico as often as possible. Dave was a member of the VFW and a Mason. FOSTER, HATTIE "PENNY" Hattie "Penny" Foster passed on April 4th of natural causes. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, the family moved to Albuquerque in 1964. Penny was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin in 2000, and her eldest son, Karl in 1971. She is survived by two daughters, Martha and Mimi; and two sons, Malcolm and Jonathan. Penny was an Administrative Assistant to D.W.Falls Land and Development for many years. Coupled with raising five children, her energy seemed limitless as well as her love for her family. Along with her arts and crafting talents, she was a cross between June Cleaver and the better side of Martha Stewart. We were fortunate to have mom for so many years. She will now re-join her own mother whom she lost at age 29. We love and will miss you, Mom. Services will be private.

GIANNETTINO, PETER (PETE) JOSEPH Peter (Pete) Joseph Giannettino, devoted husband and father, died April 5, 2014, in Boise, Idaho. He was 90 years old. Born July 9, 1923, in New York, N.Y., Pete was a longtime respected journalist in Albuquerque. He was also a talented woodcarver, gardener and avid birder. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maggie; his daughters, Susan Giannettino of Boise and Judy Giannettino of Albuquerque and their families; sisters Ruby Buck of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Jeanne Giannettino of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Peter Thomas Giannettino; his parents, Thomas and Pauline Giannettino; sister Kay Stimson; and brother Tommy Giannettino. Pete joined the U.S. Navy after graduating high school and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II on submarines, including the USS Picuda. After being honorably discharged, he moved to Albuquerque to attend college. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1949 with a degree in journalism and began work at The Albuquerque Tribune. His journalism career included stints at newspapers in California and Deming before he returned to The Tribune, where he was at various times a court reporter, sportswriter, copy editor and city editor. He retired from The Tribune in 1988. Known for his attention to detail and his dry wit, Pete was a man of few words who was respected by all who knew him well. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, watching college sports, tending to his meticulously landscaped backyard and garden, reading and photography. He also had a lifelong love for learning, which is one of the greatest gifts he gave his children. In his late 60s, he took up the guitar and harmonica, and in his 80s enrolled in college Spanish classes. His true passion was bird carving. He enjoyed fly-fishing and tied flies - not because he loved to catch fish but because he loved the craft and the aesthetic of it all. His longest-lasting and most cherished love was for his wife, the former Marguerite Olsen. The couple met at UNM and married shortly thereafter. They shared more than six decades together. In retirement, they attended more than 50 Elderhostels throughout the country. In accordance with Pete's wishes, no services are planned. For those wanting to memorialize Pete, his family suggests a donation in his name to the Peregrine Fund, a bird conservation fund based in Boise, which works to save endangered birds of prey species. HANRAHAN, DONALD A. Donald, known affectionately as "Donnie" to his friends and family passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 5th, 2014 at the age of 60. Donnie was a lover of the International Food Network and enjoyed making creative dishes for everyone. He prepared feasts every year for family and friends with his mother and aunt for the holidays. Donald lived life to the fullest while fighting an ailment for decades, which made him an inspiration to us all. Our hearts and wish for compassion goes out to those who have lost their battles to the same. Cremation has already taken place and no services will be held. LAMONDE, MAURICE "MOE" In loving memory of Maurice "Moe" Lamonde age 65, a resident of Albuquerque since 1973, who unexpectedly passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara; children, Trey, Cory, and Mikael Ann; granddaughter, Isabella; brother from another mother, Al Lujan and wife, Kathy; and numerous other relatives and many friends. He was born in 1949 in New Bedford, MA and after graduating from high school, he drove his VW to Portales where he attended Eastern New Mexico University. He obtained his BS in Computer Science. Moe then moved to Albuquerque where he joined the financial community. He was very active in the community and loved to ski and golf. Moe's first love was Barbara. His passion was his family and there was nothing he wouldn't do for his friends. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. MARTINEZ, MANUEL Age 50, an Albuquerque Native, went home to be with The Lord on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Manuel was a fun, big hearted, and loving son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and most off all friend. He was a hard worker and always willing to lend a hand. He lived a very simple life, he didn't believe in spending money on himself but rather found happiness in giving to others. He looked forward to his five am daily coffee with his mom and dad. MARTINEZ, DAVID P. David P. Martinez, 40, went to be with our Lord on, April 5, 2014. MCGARRAH, CHARLES LAMONT 1943 - 2014 Charles Lamont McGarrah, age 70, lifelong resident of Valencia County, passed away on April 6, 2014. He loved farming and enjoyed helping people. He was a graduate of Los Lunas High School, and NMSU with a degree in Agricultural Economics with high honors. He was born at home at the end of Chug Hole Lane near the river. He was a long time supervisor at the Los Lunas NMSU Agricultural Center. He was also a self-employed farmer and had raised alfalfa, vegetables, and cottonwood trees for reforestation of the bosque. His favorite day in the year was March first when the irrigation water was turned on. He was raised using John Deere 2-cylinder tractors, and retained an interest in them always, collecting and restoring them. Because of illness he had moved to Las Cruces 2 years ago to be nearer family, but he longed to return home. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lois McGarrah; and step-mother, Dorothy McGarrah. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie Louise French; sons, Charles McGarrah Jr. (Debbie), and Jonathon McGarrah (partner Francis Wille); beloved grandchildren, Katrina, Logan and Shane (April); four great-grandchildren; cousin, Johnny Billings; two sisters, Annie McGarrah (partner Debbie Andrews) and Jeanette Meadows; brother-in-law, Winston "Bill" French (Linda); nephews, Alan Meadows, and Nolan Meadows (Laura); nieces, Jodi Campbell, and Jaime Peterson (Jon); and special "foster" grandson, Cody Crossley. MEEK, JAMES E. James E. Meek, devoted Husband, Dad and Papaw, entered into his heavenly home on the afternoon of March 30, 2014. James was born in Possum Holler, SC to William and Bethel (Chambers) Meek on September 1, 1927. In 1945, he joined the Army-Air Force and served in Europe during the latter part of World War II. After his honorable discharge in 1949, he attended a small church in Greenwood, SC where he met Ruby Boutwell, his Sunday School teacher. After the service, Ruby called him to welcome him to the church, he answered her call by saying "Valley Forge, George Washington speaking," to which she immediately hung up, and redialed. Shortly after the phone call, the two shared a chocolate milkshake, and married six months later. In 1952, James and Ruby relocated to Albuquerque where he attended UNM, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. In 1955, they welcomed their son, James "Jim", and in 1957, their daughter Carole. James began working for Kirtland Air Force Base in 1969 as a Supervisory Technical Writer, and retired 20 years later. James was known for his quick wit and his love for living a "country" lifestyle. He was an avid reader and spent much of his retirement at his home in the North Valley where he cared for many animals over the years, including horses, dogs, cats, rabbits and a capuchin monkey. James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruby B. Meek; his son, James E. Meek, Jr.; daughter, Carole A. Meek-Bowers; two granddaughters, Amanda Chavez and Elizabeth Steplowski; great-granddaughter, Ashley; two brothers, Albert (Joyce) Meek of Spartanburg, SC and Charles Meek of Midway, GA. MILLER, MARY passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born in Hoven, South Dakota August 22, 1945 to Edwin and Dorothy Jost. Mary has lived in numerous states and in Japan as she sacrificed her vocations to follow her husband Lee as he transferred with the military and civil service. She was preceded in death by her parents and one of her brothers, Jim Jost. She is survived by her husband Lee; daughter, April Serrano and her husband Dan; grandchildren, Daniel, Devin, Dorothy and Dakota; brother, Leland and his wife Virginia; sister, Leila and husband Dave Geilser; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was a devoted Christian involved in many church activities starting with youth counselor in Abilene, Texas, to small group participant in several groups here in Albuquerque, NM with the Sagebrush Community Church. One of Mary's most rewarding positions was a real estate agent. Mary was also an avid walker for many years and held a position as a Zumba fitness trainer. After Mary's brain cancer surgery, she developed a boldness in sharing her convictions to the Lord with others. Every new person she met, she would ask if they had a relationship with Jesus Christ. If they replied no, she would ask "would you like to?" Mary truly loved her husband of 48 years, daughter, grandchildren, family as well as many friends. NORTON, JAMES STEPHEN "STEVE" was called to his heavenly home on April 6, 2014 following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Steve was born September 11, 1953 in Las Cruces, NM, the oldest of five sons born to Jimmie and Janice Norton. The family moved to Albuquerque in 1960 and after graduating from Del Norte High School in 1971, Steve enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a proud SeaBee serving in California, The Tonkin Gulf during the Vietnam era as well as in Okinawa and Cuba. Many of his Navy friends stayed in touch over the past years and enjoyed getting together for reunions. After his military service Steve followed in his father's foot-steps (big shoes to fill!) and became a professional truck driver. Steve worked for many different companies over the course of his career including Yellow Freight, and Giant Refinery. He was also the owner of his own trucking companies, Three Bears Transport and Truckworks. Steve was proud to be a true "Knight of the Road" and came to the aid of people stranded, broken down vehicles as well as a first responder at the scenes of many accidents. Steve had a great sense of adventure and enjoyed four-wheeling, camping and many summers skiing and boating at Elephant Butte Lake. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Barton; brother, Bill Norton as well as Bill's wife, Laura. He is survived by his beloved son, Jonathan Norton; father, Jim Norton; brothers, Don and wife Lisa, Tom and wife Kathy, and Ron. He will also be dearly missed by his niece, Amber Owen and husband John, and two great-nephews, Myles and Chase, as well as cousins, other relatives and friends. The family expresses their gratitude to Steve's devoted friend, Mary Pappaianni. REISCH, LAWRENCE PAUL age 70, passed away on Tuesday April 1, 2014. He was born in Buffalo, New York, on December 31, 1943 and was a resident of Los Lunas since 1998. He had been an IT Generalist I, an active CWA Union Steward, and employed by the State of NM Department of Health/Los Lunas Community Program for the past 13 years. Lawrence had been an Airman Second Class in the United States Air Force. He was a member of several organizations including: NRA Instructor and life member, Zia Rifle and Pistol Club, AMAC member, American Hunters Club, and an active lobbyist throughout many years. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence SR., Arlene Reisch, and his stepdaughter Jacqueline. Lawrence is survived by his wife Leonor Reisch, daughter Dee Ann Johnstone, stepchildren Luis Fernando, Monica, Roberto, Lourdes, and his grandchildren Kayla, Tiffany, Alex, Maria Jose, Maria Fernanda, Maria Gabriela, Kenia, Camila and Andrea, as well as, his great granddaughter Isabella and brothers & sisters Charlie, Richard, Barbara, Faye and Walter. REYES, EITER 60 years of age, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 4, 2014. He was born July 8, 1953 in Bronx, NY. Eiter lived in Cleveland before moving to North Ridgeville. He recently moved to New Mexico to enjoy his retirement. Eiter proudly served in the United States Army for 26 years earning the rank of Sergeant. He served with the 316th. Medical detachment and also served during Desert Storm from 1990-1991. Eiter was a member of New Heights Baptist Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was a former member of Grace Baptist Church in North Ridgeville and Cleveland Baptist Church. Eiter received the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 15, he served the Lord faithfully during those forty-five years until the Lord called him home. He was employed at NASA in Cleveland for thirty-four years before retiring in 2010. His greatest joy was his family and passing on a Godly legacy. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 22 years Miriam I. Reyes (nee: Soto); his sons Mark "Marco" Reyes (Annette), Irsael "Issi" Reyes (Teena), Andres "Andy" Reyes; daughters Frances Marlene DeJesus (Carmelo), and Christina Rodriquez; mother Teresa Cancel of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico; grandchildren Isabel, Alessandra, Liza, Eva, Evan, Elena and one on the way; his brothers Renan Reyes (Judy), Mike Reyes, Edwin Reyes (Miriam) and his sister Iris Robles (Ruben). ROBERTSON, BETTY JEAN Age 85, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014. Betty was born on January 2, 1929 in Albuquerque, NM. Betty was retired from Sun West bank where she worked in the trust department for many years. She always enjoyed discussing current affairs, reading the newspaper, and people watching. STEVENS, GEORGE FRANKLIN George went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2014. He was born to Franklin J. and Mabel G. Stevens on June 20, 1927. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Hilda Mae Harvey. George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Lucille Stevens and his children Cynthia Martz and husband Scott, Rebecca Knippel and husband Lawrence, Philip Stevens and wife Lenora; his nephew David Harvey and wife Dianna; sister-in-law Millie Dew; six grandchildren; and one great- granddaughter. George served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from UNM and UNM Law School, and was a practicing attorney for 57 years. As a longtime member of Albuquerque's First Baptist Church, he served for many years as a deacon and Bible study teacher. He also served on the Board of the New Mexico Baptist Foundation for 18 years and the Board of Noon Day Ministries for many years. George was an amazing husband, father and grandfather.He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, cycling, camping, fishing, and back packing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved his work as an attorney, and got tremendous joy from helping others. THOMPSON, MARY ELIZABETH Age 83, Mary Elizabeth Foster Thompson "Bette" was born on December 18, 1930 in Lincoln County, Tennesse and moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1944 at the age of thirteen. Bette lost a short and courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Catherine Moore Foster and her husband of forty-eight years, Bob J. Thompson. She is survived by daughters, Jodi McCarty, Janet Biernacki and husband, Steve, and Barbara Cordova and husband, Gene; four grandchildren, Chris Baum and Monique Trevino, Ian Cordova, Stefanie Stawicki, Malori Cordova and Jeremy McClintock; ten great-grandchildren, Shannon, Bryony, Amber, Jude, Sevryn, Serenity, Elijah, Abby, Johnny, and Xavier. The family joined the Church of Christ in 1944 when it was located on 4th Street and Bette remained a member after it moved to Riverside. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park where Bette will be laid to rest beside her husband.
