ROMERO, CHRISTIAN WALTER age 88, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 after a battle with Lewy body dementia in the comfort of his home and in the presence of his wife, son, daughter-in-law, & their two children. Christian was born to the late Pacomio and Abelina Romero on September 17, 1925 in Coolidge, KS to be raised in Maez, NM and later Eaton, CO. He eventually moved with his wife to Las Vegas, NM where he retired from the Las Vegas Housing Authority in 1989. Christian was a lifelong rancher, cowboy and handyman who enjoyed working outdoors and with his hands. Christian enjoyed staying busy, and would constantly take on new projects, which included climbing and pruning trees well into his eighties! He was a loving husband to his wife of 67 years and continued to care for her in her illness at his final home of fourteen years in Albuquerque, NM with his son Raymond and family. Christian was a beloved man by many, and was known for his physical and emotional strength, as well as his devotion to his family and friends in times of need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Christian was preceded in death by his parents; eleven of his twelve siblings: Manuel Romero, Carlota Aragon, Pacifica Aragon, Colastica Aragon, Josefa Salazar, Secundino Romero, Pacomio Romero, Cosme Romero, Tobias Romero, Fedelina Romero, and Flavio Romero; as well as his infant granddaughter, Erica Romero. Christian is survived by his wife Flaminia Romero; his brother, Gene Romero; and his two sons and their wives, Elmer/Delores Romero and Raymond/Michelle Romero. He is also survived by five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. A Rosary service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 8:15 a.m with a funeral Mass to follow at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Church, 5901 St. Josephs Ave NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. A burial service will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Flowers may be delivered to St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Church.
