CAIRD, BRUCE Age 84, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Born in Geneva Ohio, Bruce came to reside in Albuquerque in 1935 at the age of five. Affectionately called "Mr. Albuquerque" by a client, Bruce was well known for his real estate career that spanned more than five decades. He knew the business from the ground up, working first in the construction industry as a young engineering student. Bruce quickly became a construction manager for Dale Bellamah who developed the NE heights Princess Jeanne Subdivision in the 1950's. Before opening his own real estate company with partner Ed Norris in 1963, he built homes in Santa Fe with builder Ralph Brutsche, a life long friend. A licensed Realtor since 1957, Bruce held the #9 realtor license issued in New Mexico. He had a passion for real estate and was recognized by clients and peers for his professionalism, humor, and keen mind. He offered "solutions for people in real estate" and specialized in many arenas from residential sales in the north valley to commercial brokerage and development projects in Albuquerque, Corrales, and Placitas. One of his most creative accomplishments was to sell the volcanoes on Albuquerque's Westside Bond Ranch to the City of Albuquerque. He also served the city he loved as a founding member of Concerned Citizens, a watchdog group that critiqued city government. His provocative editorials often appeared in the Albuquerque Tribune. Bruce was a board member of TVI, now CNM, and a longtime member of the National Federation of Small Businessmen. Devoted as he was to public life, Bruce's family was his lasting pride and joy. He was married to Mary Landwehr of Jefferson City, MO, for over sixty years. He was the beloved patriarch of the Caird clan including five children: Ian Caird (Roxanna), Kim Caird-Espinosa (Peter), Caitlin Robinson (Patrick), Andrew Caird, and Sarah Caird; as well as nine grandchildren: (Ethan Aronson, Aaron, and Maya Espinosa, Kurtis, Kyle, and Kelly Robinson, Thane, Rachel, and Alexander Caird); and two great-grandchildren: (Finnegan and Harper Robinson.) Bruce modeled the values of the "great generation" such as hard work, integrity, a love of excellence, and a zest for life. A voracious reader and lover of history, his personal hero was Abraham Lincoln. Bruce loved sailing and traveling with Mary from San Carlos, Mexico and the lakes of northern New Mexico to Vancouver Island and the San Juan Islands of Canada. Bruce lived life to the full and embodied a warrior spirit. After a prolonged battle with heart disease, he died February 25, 2014 at his home of congestive heart failure. DURAN, SUSAN GAYLE 1954 - 2014 Susan Gayle Duran, age 60, a resident of Belen, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family and her beloved dogs, on Sunday, February 23rd. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and with her many horses. She was a mother, sister, and friend to many. Sue was always one for practical jokes. She took great enjoyment in making people laugh and/or in giving them a good scare. Sue loved the mountains, hiking and spending time with those whom she loved and cared. Sue was also a very hard worker; there was not a job that she would refuse to tackle. All of these attributes will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Unfortunately, for the past year, she had been fighting a brave battle with cancer which she ultimately lost. However, no matter her pain or discomfort, she still got up nearly every day and tended to her daily activities and cared for her beloved dogs. The only solace that can be taken now is that she is free of pain and it is hoped that she will now be able to once again go for those long hikes in the mountains, and bask in the sunlight. Sue's family would like to give a special thank you to Beth Sambrano and the Ambercare Hospice Team for their wonderful care and compassion for Sue in her last weeks. A private memorial service will be held at a later date for Sue's family and loved ones. IRWIN, ROLLIN Rollin Edward "Rollie" Irwin, an eight year resident of Grays Harbor County, Washington State, passed-away at home in McCleary, WA. He was 66. Rollie was born April 26, 1947 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Edward Elliott and Miona Lucille Christina (Ferguson) Irwin. He grew up in and attended school in White Rock, British Columbia and is a graduate of Semiahmoo High School's class of 1965. Rollie attended college in Alberta, Canada, the University of Washington where he played football, and also technical schools in Houston, TX. He was a welder and steel fabricator most of his life and most recently worked as Vice President of B.M.T. Northwest at the Satsop Business Park near Elma, WA. Rollie traveled all over the world as a representative and supervisor for several steel manufacturing companies. Rollie is a member of the Steel Tank Institute/ Steel Pipe Fabricators Association, (STI/SPFA), he is a board member of the Welding Technology Advisory Committee of South Puget Sound Community College, and a board member of Elma School Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee, (CTE), he is a member of the Montesano Moose, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Rollie enjoyed cruising on his motorcycle, playing and later coaching Semi-Pro and Minors football. He is survived by his Life Partner, Ola Johnson of the home; a sister Rolinda Harris of Kapolei, Hawaii; and brothers Elliott Irwin of Calgary, Alberta and Mark Irwin of British Columbia. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sharilyn. Rollie was known as a 'Go-To' man. If something needed to be done, he made it happen. He attempted at every crossing to make his word be deed. When Rollie became aware of the impending closure of BMT NW, he made lion-hearted efforts to procure the necessary financial backing to purchase the company. His efforts were not of a personal nature. He wanted to maintain the livelihoods of his employees and coworkers to whom he felt a strong commitment and responsibility. Along with that, he wished to maintain the numerous relationships with suppliers and clients with whom he felt he had given his personal word to serve. Rollie held a high regard for friends, family and others with whom he worked. And yet, Rollie measured himself by standards which no human being could ever meet. According to his sister, Rolinda, Rollie is a loving brother and a best friend who unselfishly gave of himself to all who crossed his path. He will be dearly missed. The family suggests memorial contributions In Memory of Rollin Irwin to either: South Puget Sound Community College Foundation, 2011 Mottman Rd SW, Olympia, WA 98512, or CET of Elma High School, 1235 Monte-Elma Rd Elma, WA 98541. LENZ, BARBARA T. In 1962, the Lord sent us an angel and now He has taken her home. Barbara was born August 17, 1962 at the Air Force Academy. She was joy, happiness, and love; and spread those to all her family and those she met. Barbara attended the Rocky Mountain Rehabilitation Center and learned many skills. She was a member of a band at the Center which was chosen for national Special Arts Festival to perform in Washington D.C. They met Debby Boone and she spent some time with them. Barbara attended Wasson High School in Colorado Springs. She was accomplished in needlepoint and many of us were blessed to enjoy her work. Barbara loved calendars and at the start of a new year it was her job to get her calendar and mark the upcoming birthdays for all of the family members. She loved that she was a sister and daughter. Her trips to the Rocky Mountains were special. Her aunt Pat, a Mercy nun, was her special person. Most summers involved a trip to Iowa for a grand birthday celebration with the nuns and many relatives and friends. If we didn't make it to Iowa many would join us in the Colorado Mountains near Keystone and Dillon. She always had a favorite dog; Oso was a real special one. Barbara loved music and she loved to dance. The house would fill with Christmas carols from her CD. Her special song was America the Beautiful and would silence all to listen. Special Olympics was another joy. Barbara learned to run, bowl, swim and other things. Her silver medal for bowling in the State meet, presented by one of the Denver Broncos, was special. The last few years our dear Barbara was lost to the cruel world of Alzheimer's. She left us on February 27, 2014 to join her father, Raymond Lenz and her sister, Margaret Bovie. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Nora and Edward Lenz; and her maternal grandparents, Margaret and Timothy Sullivan. Barbara leaves behind her mother, Catharine Lenz; sisters, Susan Alarid and Virginia Lenz; brother, Michael Lenz and wife, Danella; brother-in-law, David Bovie; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; her dear aunt Patricia Sullivan; and many relatives and friends. We want you to know if The Lord blesses you with one of these who will be one of the "Little Children Forever", give them a chance to show you what true love and joy can be found. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, 10:00 am, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW. Woven throughout his service and accomplishments was his steadfast support and love of his "familia," his son, Ricardo Ximenes and wife, Patricia; daughters Olivia and husband, Patrick Harrington, and Ana Maria and husband, Steve Baroch; daughter-in-law Patty Snipes; granddaughter Theresa Ximenes; our great granddaughters Chloe and Madison Ximenes-Merrill; brother Joe Ximenes; sister Magdalena Valdez; sister in law Mary-Lou Ximenes, and all our familia in San Antonio and Floresville, Texas, which is lovingly and happily large. Our father's beautiful life story includes many special friends, so please consider this a personal note of thanks and gratitude for being a part of his life and sharing his adventure. As a family, we thank Mando and Jackie Lopez for the circle of love that you wrapped around our family. To our cousin Linda Ximenes: Chente loved your visits. To everyone who shared Vicente's journey, like the Mexican corridas, that told the history of a country and the lives of its people, you are a part of his song and forever in our "canciones de nuestro padre" (songs of our father). A Rosary Service will be held Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 6:00p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. A Graveside Service will be held Friday March 7, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetary, 1900 Edith NE, 87102.
