FRY, WILLIAM FRANKLIN Age 97, died on October 27, 2013. He was born September 20, 1916, to Roy Fry and Irma Carson Fry in Kline, Colorado. He spent much of his happy childhood in Farmington and Aztec, New Mexico. In 1941 he was drafted and served in World War II in the Pacific and European theaters. After the war, he lived in Albuquerque and attended the University of New Mexico on the GI Bill. He was a civil engineer with the federal government for his entire career, where troubleshooting became his specialty. Bill was a charter member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, then a member of Cross of Hope Church, and, at the time of his death, he was an active member of New Covenant Church. He was committed to charitable work and volunteered for many activities throughout his life. He was a volunteer for ARTA (Appropriate Rural Technology Association), which helped the Tarahumara Indians in Mexico to develop more efficient agricultural methods. He volunteered with Presbyterian Hospital hospice and was active in many church-related ministries. Gardening was Bill's passion, and his gardens were totally organic long before most people knew what organic gardening was. He was a member of the New Mexico Organic Growers' Association and helped the organization draft and promote the first New Mexico statute governing organic agricultural commodities. Bill had two happy marriages: first to Mary Eleanor McKenzie Fry for 42 years (until her death in 1989), and then to Beverly Fry for 22 years. He is survived by his wife Beverly; daughter Kathryn Fry and her husband Colonel Robert Bower, daughter Cynthia Fry and her husband Daymon Ely; grandsons James MacPherson and Asher Ely; granddaughter Rachel Ely; sister Muriel Lisignoli; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was a joyful, curious, and generous man, and he will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa NE, Albuquerque, on November 16, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice.
